Glad to hear you're having fun in Cali. Props on the good session. And yeah, if you want to get serious about footbag, I'm willing to help as much as I can.

See you at USO!

Back off, Somolinos, she's ours now.

Keep up the training, Adrienne. I hope to see you soon. :-)

Good to hear that you're having fun at Cali. Make a stop at Winnipeg for this year's Hackrifice why don't you.

haha, I am all yours for now, but at the end of July you have to give me back :)

Thanks for the offer, Ken. Of course I will be taking you up on it.

And we'll see about Hackrifice. Depends on how grad school/money are at the time.

My legs have been hurting for the past couple of days, but after this morning my knees really hate me. So I bought some puzzle mats. But only 6. I don't think it is worth it to spend $40 on them here and then $40 more to ship them home or buy them again. Hopefully they will do for now.

On the upside, I finally did 4 butterflys in a row. Twice, and solidly. Just gotta keep workin' on them.

And on a random note, the entire Napa/Sonoma Valley is filled with smoke from wild fires in Napa. It looks like there is fog for miles. It's crazy. Any fire in this area is really dangerous because it is so dry and it is really disconcerting to wake up to the smell of smoke every morning...

My 9 year old cousin totally kicked my butt in chess last night. Maybe I should start schooling chess because that is just embarrassing.

The knee is still bothering me. Couldn't play today or yesterday and had to get a brace for it. Might not be able to play for a couple days, which is totally lame with the US Open right around the corner. Hopefully it will get better when I visit Chase on Monday.

Made my first friend in Sonoma, Clark. He is a counselor at my cousin's nature camp. He is really cool and quirky. It's definitely nice to hang out with someone who isn't under the age of 13.

My entire life I have made friends at school, work, extracurricular activities, footbag, or through other people. None of those social networks are applicable to me out here. I am not going to school, my job involves hanging out with children (the other counselors I have met who work at the Spanish camp are teachers in their 40s), the closest footbag player is 1 1/2 hours away, and my family doesn't know anyone above the age of 12 or below the age of 37. I have no idea how to meet people without those social networks.

At the same time, I don't care if I make wonderful, lasting friends here because I am only here another month. And in that month I am traveling and hanging out with people I know so it is not like I am completely devoid of social contact. But my aunt is driving me insane trying to force me into friendships with people. It's like she is trying to set up play dates for me with people I don't connect with, which in the end just makes me feel really awkward. 22 year olds don't need play dates.

Anyway, I just need to rant and besides that, she is pretty much the coolest aunt ever.

Ha, nice joke.

I'll go ahead and disagree with that because of personal experience. When I moved and didn't really know people in SC, after a while I got lonely enough that I hung out with people who I didn't really have any personal interest in just because I needed to be around people around my own age. You can get lonely enough at any age to need a play date. But yeah, if it's only a month Netflix can be your new best friend. :o

You're totally right, Emily. I guess I am just resenting the way she is forcing it on me.

Just got back from Tahoe and am taking a few minutes to write in here before I bounce down to the town plaza for the Farmer's Market.

I went to Tahoe yesterday to visiting Chase Card-Burns and am really glad I did. The ride down was absolutely amazing. While you would be hard-pressed to convince me there are any mountains more beautiful than the Appalachians, the mountains I had to cross to get there were completely breath-taking. The mountains and the trees on them were bigger than any I had ever seen before. I felt so small driving through them. On part of the trip, there was a river that flowed through the mountains that made everything look so perfect. Those mountains were some of the most amazingly beautiful things I had ever seen.

It was really cool to see Chase. I hadn't seen him since his cross country road trip in October. I had a lot of fun hanging out with him. He showed me around the city of South Lake Tahoe. We walked around the beach a bit, and the water was surprisingly warm. Actually swimmable, unlike the beaches around here I have gone to. We stopped on the Nevada side for a moment and I spent a whopping $.50 on a slot machine in a casino. Mainly so I could say I have gambled in a casino. The casino itself weirded me out. There was so much noise and flashing lights. And people just looked way too into it. Like, how can someone sit at a slot machine for hours and just keep pulling that lever over and over?

Back at his place we played some footbag since no footbag visit is complete without a shred session. He has gotten sooo much better than the last time I saw him. And the bags he stitches are looking bomb-diggity as well. I got a new bag from him which is sweet. I am really excited to use it. The altitude was really hard on my chest. After every run I thought my heart was going to explode. But at least there was a reason besides just being out of shape...

We had one session (I played decent during this one), then we made dinner and hung out, and had another session later in the evening. I was sucking pretty badly so I just started drilling random things. After trying what felt like 100 times, I finally hit my 5 butterflies in a row. Before I finally hit it, I was getting 4 in a row pretty often. So that way my little improvement for the day.

This morning we got up and went to this farmer's market then hung out for a bit and I drove home. Stopped at an outlet store to try and find more shred shoes, but the Lavers at the Adidas store were 60, which is not outlet price. And the Rebok one didn't sell G Units.

Now I am off to meet my family at the Farmer's Market in Sonoma and shred in the Plaza. Peace

Thanks, Ken! While I was practicing them, I thought a lot of advice you gave me one time. It was when I was trying to do 15 clippers on my flip side. You told me while getting to 15 was the goal, trying to do 10 consistently was what really showed the progress. I take that to heart every time I am trying to hit a certain number of something.

Played a lot today. Had 3 one hour sessions. The first one I just did drills, the second I worked on my routine, and the third I did routine and string length. Toward the end of my third session, I hit a pixie mirage for the first time (is that called smog? i forget...). That was my huge highlight for the day. And it wasn't too messy.

My little cousin was playing with me today. He asked for a bag so I gave him one I made. Maybe he will start playing :)

On a random note, yesterday I bought a dress. While I was trying it on, a woman in the shop told me I had a really beautiful back. It was one of the nicest and most unique compliments I have ever gotten.

Props on pixie mirage (smear). Experimenting with uptime concepts and hitting new tricks with them always have an awesome feeling to it. Always fight for the bag.

We should challenge each other on extending our string lengths, like how many contacts we can hit in one string. It'll be fun, and it'll push us into concentrating on downtime strings.

I should get to drilling my clippers. I'm definitely going to try for 15 on both sides! :P

Emily, you make me smile :)
Chase, I had a great time hanging out with you. Thanks for showing me a bunch of new moves to try. Your cooking is amazing!
Waylon, I will get started on that as soon as the USO is over. I am only concentrating on my routine until then.

At the 4th of July festivities in the main Plaza, there was a guy who was probably like 19ish playing the banjo. And he was really good. So I sat down, watched him for awhile, and ended up hanging out with his family for awhile. It was really random because not many people are into bluegrass around here. Before I leave Cali we are going to get together a few times to hang out and play banjo. Got my first banjo a couple years ago, from Vince Bradley, but I never really had anyone to teach me. Just books. So it will be fun to have a pro giving me some lessons.

Practice yesterday was thwarted by a massive headache and knee pain. Today I played for about an hour and worked a lot on the first part of my routine for the USO. My whole family was sitting out on the deck watching me do my routine. It was kinda cute. More practice to come later...

I hit the first 40 seconds-ish without dropping a couple of times which is awesome. I am making sure everything I put in the routine is something I can hit. No risks in this one. I am starting to get pretty nervous for USO. I keep getting this feeling that I am just going to get too nervous and wimp-out. Competing in routines is fun but terrifying at the same time. But I am pretty determined and have been working my booty off.

Tomorrow my family and I are leaving for Oregon. My grandparents came from MD (they live about 5 minutes away from me) to go to some national park in Oregon. On Thursday they are going to drop me off at a bus station and then I will be headed for Portland. Can't wait to see everyone there!

You swine. You vulgar little maggot. Don't you know that you are pathetic? You worthless bag of filth. As we say in Texas, I'll bet you couldn't pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel. You are a canker. A sore that won't go away. I would rather kiss a lawyer than be seen with you.

You are a fiend and a coward, and you have bad breath. You are degenerate, noxious and depraved. I feel debased just for knowing you exist. I despise everything about you. You are a bloody nardless newbie twit protohominid chromosomally aberrant caricature of a coprophagic cloacal parasitic pond scum and I wish you would go away.

You're a putrescence mass, a walking vomit. You are a spineless little worm deserving nothing but the profoundest contempt. You are a jerk, a cad, a weasel. Your life is a monument to stupidity. You are a stench, a revulsion, a big suck on a sour lemon.

You are a bleating fool, a curdled staggering mutant dwarf smeared richly with the effluvia and offal accompanying your alleged birth into this world. An insensate, blinking calf, meaningful to nobody, abandoned by the puke-drooling, giggling beasts who sired you and then killed themselves in recognition of what they had done.

I will never get over the embarrassment of belonging to the same species as you. You are a monster, an ogre, a malformity. I barf at the very thought of you. You have all the appeal of a paper cut. Lepers avoid you. You are vile, worthless, less than nothing. You are a weed, a fungus, the dregs of this earth. And did I mention you smell?

If you aren't an idiot, you made a world-class effort at simulating one. Try to edit your writing of unnecessary material before attempting to impress us with your insight. The evidence that you are a nincompoop will still be available to readers, but they will be able to access it more rapidly.

You snail-skulled little rabbit. Would that a hawk pick you up, drive its beak into your brain, and upon finding it rancid set you loose to fly briefly before spattering the ocean rocks with the frothy pink shame of your ignoble blood. May you choke on the queasy, convulsing nausea of your own trite, foolish beliefs.

You are weary, stale, flat and unprofitable. You are grimy, squalid, nasty and profane. You are foul and disgusting. You're a fool, an ignoramus. Monkeys look down on you. Even sheep won't have sex with you. You are unreservedly pathetic, starved for attention, and lost in a land that reality forgot.

And what meaning do you expect your delusionally self-important statements of unknowing, inexperienced opinion to have with us? What fantasy do you hold that you would believe that your tiny-fisted tantrums would have more weight than that of a leprous desert rat, spinning rabidly in a circle, waiting for the bite of the snake?

You are a waste of flesh. You have no rhythm. You are ridiculous and obnoxious. You are the moral equivalent of a leech. You are a living emptiness, a meaningless void. You are sour and senile. You are a disease, you puerile one-handed slack-jawed drooling meatslapper.

On a good day you're a half-wit. You remind me of drool. You are deficient in all that lends character. You have the personality of wallpaper. You are dank and filthy. You are asinine and benighted. You are the source of all unpleasantness. You spread misery and sorrow wherever you go.

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid so stupid that it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Your writing has to be a troll. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know. I'm sorry. I can't go on. This is an epiphany of stupid for me. After this, you may not hear from me again for a while. I don't have enough strength left to deride your ignorant questions and half baked comments about unimportant trivia, or any of the rest of this drivel. Duh.

The only thing worse than your logic is your manners. I have snipped away most of what you wrote, because, well... it didn't really say anything. Your attempt at constructing a creative flame was pitiful. I mean, really, stringing together a bunch of insults among a load of babbling was hardly effective... Maybe later in life, after you have learned to read, write, spell, and count, you will have more success. True, these are rudimentary skills that many of us "normal" people take for granted that everyone has an easy time of mastering. But we sometimes forget that there are "challenged" persons in this world who find these things more difficult. If I had known, that this was your case then I would have never read your post. It just wouldn't have been "right". Sort of like parking in a handicap space. I wish you the best of luck in the emotional, and social struggles that seem to be placing such a demand on you.

P.S.: You are hypocritical, greedy, violent, malevolent, vengeful, cowardly, deadly, mendacious, meretricious, loathsome, despicable, belligerent, opportunistic, barratrous, contemptible, criminal, fascistic, bigoted, racist, sexist, avaricious, tasteless, idiotic, brain-damaged, imbecilic, insane, arrogant, deceitful, demented, lame, self-righteous, byzantine, conspiratorial, satanic, fraudulent, libelous, bilious, splenetic, spastic, ignorant, clueless, illegitimate, harmful, destructive, dumb, evasive, double-talking, devious, revisionist, narrow, manipulative, paternalistic, fundamentalist, dogmatic, idolatrous, unethical, cultic, diseased, suppressive, controlling, restrictive, malignant, deceptive, dim, crazy, weird, dystopic, stifling, uncaring, plantigrade, grim, unsympathetic, jargon-spouting, censorious, secretive, aggressive, mind-numbing, arassive, poisonous, flagrant, self-destructive, abusive, socially-retarded, puerile, clueless, and generally Not Good.

Aw, Kyle, I am so honored that you spent that much effort on being a modified douche-bag for me. It shows you really care :) I, too, enjoyed hangin' with you. I will send the bag as soon as I get around to making it (hopefully soon) and the pics will go up when I get home to MD in 2 weeks.

USO was really amazing. Met so many cool, new people and saw so much great shred. It was one of the most fun events I have been to. I don't like writing detailed write-ups for events, but here are my personal highlights from USO:

~Hitting my first 4-add move (Parkwalk)- thanks Kyle!
~Caro's routine
~Hangin' with Dave Thursday night in the Park
~Interesting conversation/elbow bag with Rory
~Oreo the puppy
~Kyle's hair/circle antics
~Being able to still smile after my routine didn't go as planned
~Circle comp finals
~Chocolate chip/banana pancakes
~Free hugs from random people in Pioneer Square (one of whom I may have gotten interested in footbag)
~Seeing Ken (I was getting the shakes from withdrawal)
~Getting to know other Shreditas better
~Red's ability to run an awesome competition
~Nick's hugs (possibly the best in footbag)
~My awesome vacation in the mountains of southern Oregon for a couple days before the comp.

So yeah, that was the USO for me

I am taking a break from footbag for the next couple of weeks, save Saturday when I go back to Steve's house and when I am teaching it at camp (which won't be too bad because it will be mostly 4-square). It wasn't smart to play as much as I did leading up to and at USO. My knees are hurting really badly so I need to give them time off. But after that it will be bak to serious training.

I'm sorry to hear about your knees. If they still don't feel okay on Saturday don't worry about not freestyling, I'll just kick your ass in some 4-square.

Just kidding, we'll all get beaten by Steve. :)
