Thanks Bob and Kevins!

Oh whoops. I just realized that by posting the vid that I did in my last entry, I probably confused everybody. Ducking paradox egg is not a new trick for me. That's the trick that is in the vid in my last entry. Ducking bubba egg is a new trick for me. I'd say it's about roughly equally hard to the paradox one.

I assume he was requesting flipside ducking PDX egg, which I never hit before today:

That was probably the biggest highlight of the session.

My normal practice room was taken today, so I had to play in the TV room. It's a lot more cramped because of all the chairs, but it was also warmer, so I may start playing there from now on. Routine practice went OK, though the chairs did mess me up a bit. It was probably good to take off the weekend from routines. I didn't feel out of practice at all. I can't believe USO is less than 2 weeks away. I need to be diligent with my routine practice, and careful not to injure myself.

Oh, and the jersey in these videos is the one I got over the weekend for $10. It's a heavier knit than most of my jerseys, but I was able to play in it fine. Stoked that I have a new jersey I can play in.

Wow Ken. Ducking Bubba Egg and flip ducking PDX Egg are uper cool. The NYC shred footage was also a treat for me to watch. I wish we had played during that weekend, but we'll definitely get in a circle during the NYFA shred symposium. See you then! Enjoy USO!!!

Ugh, had one of my worst sessions in recent memory tonight. I played in the cramped classroom that I used last time, but it was cold this time. I never felt like I got it going tonight, and routines were downright horrible. My mental game was way off...that's one thing that I should do better with. I can't afford to have a bad mental game with USO so soon. I'm just hoping that I got my bad session out of my system and I won't have to worry about having it happen during USO. I need to rebuild my confidence with some good sessions before USO, and not worry too much.

Routines started off 1/2, then a few one drops, but no more dropless. I'm going to really stick to my limit of 4 attempts more strictly now. If I go 0/4 then so be it. My goal is still to average around 2.5/4.

Shredwise I was pretty uninspired. The only real highlight was getting scorpion's tail bsos a bunch of times. Here's one of the cleaner tries:

Practiced routines again today. Still not where I want to be with them. Is it a mental block now that USO is around the corner? I hope not. Not sure if I should take a few days off, just play freestyle to stay in shape, or work routines more this weekend. Can't psyche myself out... I've worked too hard at this. Breathe baby...

I like your blog because of all the videos.

I do also like your bball jerseys. What do you think about Joe Duhmars making "big" changes for the pistons?

hows my challenge coming?

excited to shred again with you at USO, always fun.

Thanks for the nice words Zach. I'm stoked to see you at USO too! As for Dumars, I can't really blame him for wanting to shake things up. This current crew seems to have trouble getting over the hump. As for your challenge, it's on the shelf until after USO. I want to focus on routines for now.

Took yesterday off from playing, and got in a session today. I'm pretty bored/tired of playing alone. I can't wait til Age and Vince get back into town, or until I go to USO/NYFA jam. I really have trouble motivating myself to play creatively when I shred alone. If USO weren't less than a week away, I might even be tempted to take some time off from footbag. Today's shred was ok. Shredwise nothing notable, and routines were so-so. I think a big problem for me is that I don't really have a reliable second bag to do the juggling section of my routine. Hopefully I can borrow one at USO, but it would do a lot for my confidence if I just had one now and could practice with it. I don't think I'm going to practice my routine too much between now and USO. I dunno. I can argue it to myself a bunch of different ways. I feel like no matter what I do, I'm putting too much pressure on myself to go dropless. Practice feels like a chore.

One thing that picked up my spirits was getting a PM from Rory this morning saying that he finished making my basketball/footbag video. I was really stoked to see it. It was kind of fun to see myself hitting DSCs and motions all over the place, because I don't really do those tricks anymore. Some of the strings in that vid were shot in April of 2007, some were around October of 07. So a lot of my game has changed since then. That made the vid almost more enjoyable, in that I didn't know/remember what to expect a lot of the time. Shredwise it's not my hardest stuff, but that's not the point of the video at all. It's more of a snapshot of my personality, a fashion show of my b-ball jerseys, and a love note to my 2 favorite sports. Rory really did a fantastic job with the editing. Half the footage was tripod, but he was creative with angles and zooms, so it's still visually interesting. And stuff like the bottle breaking sound when I throw the footbag at the sign, or the "hello?" at the beginning were super creative.

Given the footbag funk I've been in lately, this really picked up my spirits. Thanks Rory!

Ken, I know you didn't make the video but I feel compelled to comment and say that I really liked the video, and you obviously contributed to it being something worth watching.

Great shred, fun basketball stuff, really enjoyable.

BTW, next tourny we're at lets totally play some basketball, I have been getting my legs under me and learning the game.

I'm impressed with how much thought and effort you put into things, it has obvious rewards. :)

That video was awesome. It was a fun way to put the sports together. The juggling on your side stall was really cool. I have never seen that before. And that's sweet that you got the Cornell bear to play :) Oh and you were missing a UMD jersey in your collection. I may have to remedy that...

Great editing on Rory's part. Nice music choice.

I really enjoyed the video Ken. I like the shot you get in from halfway, and when the bloke is playing in the background and he misses every shot, haha.

Enjoyed, would watch again.

Thanks for the comments guys. It's so cool how footbag has enabled me to meet so many friends in so many parts of the world. For all the sh!t people talk about modified, it really does help me stay in touch with the community, which is pretty amazing.

Had a fun session tonight, which is just what the doctor ordered. I only did a bit of routine practice, but that went well. I really needed that to get my confidence back up. I also had fun just shredding and playing around. One thing that may have helped me play well was that I listened to different music instead of just playing the same old playlists over and over.

Here are 2 runs which I feel embodied the session. Neither is particularly strong technically, but I felt like I was flowing well:

Only 2.5 days of work left until I get on that plane and hit USO! I'm pretty stoked and also pretty nervous at the same time. The events look pretty spaced out and I'm an old fart, so I may only compete in routines in order to stay fresh and give myself my best chance at dropless. I bet I could still do well in Shred30, but I don't feel like I have anything left to prove to myself in that event. My ideal weekend would have me go dropless on Saturday, so I could play and have fun on Sunday. I am completely serious when I say I would rather go dropless on Saturday and take last place at the tournament than I would to win USO on Sunday with a 1 drop routine. I really REALLY want to go dropless once in my career, and I think this summer is my best shot. I've worked so hard for this.

I'm taking tonight off footbag. It's always a bit of a delicate balance going into a tournament; you want to stay in shape and stay fresh, but you also don't want to tire yourself out too much. I think I'm going to play on Wednesday, and then maybe do a light session Thursday. Friday is my travel day, and Saturday I plan on only playing 30 minutes before my routine. So nobody be offended if I don't play much this weekend. I'm just trying to give myself my best shot at what's most important to me.

Here are some highlights from the last session I had before yesterday. They're all pretty short.

I'm stoked to "see" you too Kyle.

Aleksei: I won't be going to Worlds this year. I'm really busy with work, but beyond that I recently started really thinking about my carbon footprint, and I'm finding it really hard to justify the environmental cost of flying halfway around the world just to play hackysack. I've also stopped eating meat, and am trying to eat local foods as much as I can. Note: I bought my tickets to USO before I had my environmental moment of clarity.

Had an excellent session last night. I'm glad my last 2 sessions have been good, because my confidence took a hit with last week's bad sessions. I now feel back to normal, and confident I am well-prepared for USO.

Routine practice went well.

1st try: dropless
2nd try: one early drop, but strong routine.
3rd try: 2 drops (bags collided on the juggle) but strong routine
4th try: dropless.

I've also been watching lots of footage of my past dropless routines to improve my self-efficacy. Seeing myself hit tons of dropless routines helps me believe I can go dropless.

Shredwise my best highlight was setting a new personal record for PS Whirls. I can probably do more, I just need to be more aware of my surroundings.

Here's a cute Erik Chan challenge:

Here's just another run:

I think I'll have a very light session tonight mostly just for exercise, but I'm not going to skool routines anymore until I compete.

See a whole bunch of you in a couple days!

Ken, these last two videos are just awesome! Toe DSC > DLO bsos was magnificient! Very cool, very styley. I wish you the best in your routine at USO. :)

I really can't wait to kick with you in a circle again. I'll have your bag completed by the NYFA tournament at the end of this month. See you then!
