Well I don't know if any of you have seen it before but there is a certain feature that runs through google called PageRank. Pretty much it weighs the importance of the site compared to all other websites on the net (based on views and clicks and yadda yadda yadda.)
Modified.in: 1/10
Footbag.org: 6/10
I thought that was quite interesting because 6 is rather high for the PageRanking system. After I typed in a few sites I had realized that. Weather.com is only an 8...i feel like 6 and 8 are pretty close to each other meaning that footbag.org has a hell of a lot more traffic than we think.

also wikipedia has a very extensive explanation of how PageRank works...it is definitely a lot more confusing than you think.

This IS interesting, but, hardly surprising.
Dot Org has been around for over a decade, and is a very serious and fairly well organized resource for all kinds of footbag players (organized calendar of events vs. modified's post-at-random-and-hype/bump-to-keep-it-near-the-top system; organized club pages vs. modified's "hey, is there anybody else playing in Texas?" approach, etc.).
Also, you may not have noticed, but Dot Org actually has versions in multiple different languages. There are a fair number of people on modified who speak English as a second language, but there may well be alot of players who simply would have alot of difficulty participating here because of a language barrier. There is, after all, an active Polish footbag forum, for instance. Maybe not every forum-using shredder out there perfers Modified to a footbag forum in their native tongue.
Also, there is virtually NO Footbag Net representation on Modified (sorry Air Jer, it ain't personal, I'm just trying to make a point
). When the net players feel like putting stuff onto an internet forum, they go to Dot Org. Its certainly a rare Net event that bothers to advertise on Modified.
Last, I haven't read the Wikipedia entry on Page Ranking, but I imagine it has something to do with Links. Dot Org has a page of links, and, when other people want to put a link on their web-sites to a footbag resource, Dot Org is probably gonna be their first choice. We find Modified to be a good resource of footbag info, but, really, that only applies to a few dozen hard-core "can't get enough" footbaggers. I suspect that, although Modified seems to be a very active community, it is, in fact, simply a very vocal minority, whereas Dot Org is the somewhat quieter majority.
edit: holy shit! I only just tried out the multi-language function on Dot Org after making this post, and its really cool. I mean, I wouldn't ordinarily think to try something like that on most web-sites that offer it, but since I was talking it up here... and it seems to work a little bit sporadically -- like, for some langauge selections it translates more stuff than for others, but, still, pretty cool. For instance, all that good info on Dot Org that is in the FAQ will show up in German or French or Czech, etc. Thats a pretty cool resource.

Yeah the language thing is cool and has been around for a few years now. I'm on the FOOLS group and can translate the site into "Australian," although I've been pretty lazy about it. Actually the translation system is really cool. If anybody speaks a language (well) that footbag.org is not translated into (and you speak English or another language that it is translated into) you could email Steve and volunteer to add that language.

PageRank isn't based on views and clicks! It's mainly based on links. When Google robots find a lot of links to your site on other webpages you will have high PR. Ofcourse, links from pages with higher PR are more worth then new sites with PR 0 or 1. I guess there are a lot more links to Footbag.org than to Modified.in. Footbag.org is much older and it has many different resources. Modified.in is only an unofficial forum and please, remember that we changed the domain 2 or 3 years ago. Modified.ca has a PR 2. I personally wish there was just 1 main site. Modified is like a secret site where people who already know there is a sport come to. Footbag.org is the intro to the sport. Look how few newbie posts there are on here.
Also neither site is doing much as far as the posters. If I am going to find interest in a site I need to see some new interesting topics when I log in.
