Footbag terminology resource

Is there a complete move terminology resource somewhere, that's not footbag.org?

I keep running into trick names and concepts that are not listed on footbag.org and not described on modified.in, and I'm wondering, how does everybody else learn the terminology?

Trick names are trickier (ha!), since there are so many. And some players (*cough* Cod *cough*

) are making up new ones every day. As far as I know there is no ultimate resource for trick names that lists EVERY trick. There are some tricks with multiple names. At one point I "studied" with Rob Fuller, who at the time was kind of like a footbag social butterfly and had all the knowledge up in his noggin. Then Jorden came around, and other players like him, and there is a LOT more knowledge to absorb these days. There is Lon's record list, but lots of the trick names (as opposed to technical names) are missing or inaccurate. There is a drill list on Modified here, but it's lame and someone just made up a bunch of drills and named them. There are a handful of drills that actually have names. There is also a thread called, "What is this trick called?" (in Trick Tips).

Actually I just saw this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=qnGkXsnCMjw and I couldn't find a description to what Alpine is other than that it's related to ducking, and that rubberman is some drill, maybe a set of consecutive tricks, but couldn't find which exactly.

When I just started playing, looking up things on footbag.org for description and notation and then hackrifice/flipsider/anz tricks for a video was so simple. Now I feel that allot of the more advanced moves require some internet detective work and sifting through topics, so I was wondering if I'm missing some central information resource everyone but me knows about.

I have a mini (albeit uber-old) dictionary on Hackrifice too that describes alpine. It's super dated, so the term may have actually evolved since I wrote the desciption (also I was really bad at writing).

No, you've done a great job describing it. So Phoenix is basically an Alpine dimwalk! Making sense out of mysterious names actually make me feel fuzzy inside

I created this page on the footbag.org wiki as a resource for terminology. It would be great if everybody looked at and used the same set of data but maybe that's just me being a geeky engineer. There's something to be said for the coolness that is the "tribal knowledge" of footbag terminology.

BOP is Butterfly Osis Paradox Mirage. They're considered to be the easiest 3 adds. Usually used as filler for guiltless players they also mark the difference between normal guiltless (with the BOPs) and genuine guiltless (without those three tricks).

Symple: if you're comfortable with the concept of symposium, this is a similar concept. Some moves such as mirage, illusion and whirl can be symposium as you set and delay with the same foot, and dex with your other leg. For other moves such as legover, pickup and swirl you dex and delay with the same leg, therefore they can't be done symposium*. However, for these moves, if you jump from your dexing leg, like attempting a symposium, and complete the trick, it is said to be done "symple". Don't worry if you don't get this straight away, it's not an easy concept to grasp.

To my knowledge, the most common symple move is far swirl.

* Actually they can but it's very rare and very very hard to do.
