Kyle hewitt with yet another genious idea...

Ummm...

I know everyone is saying support support support. But you arent going to get much in terms of fancy support in shoes unless they are for running. Quantums deffinity do not have good support...they are just flat. But no ones seems to complain about that. I wouldnt worry about it too much but if you can make an amazingly perfect running/footbag hybrid then do it.

(im askin' for it aren't i?)

ummm. so my top three i would say are.

 Lightwieght (including good weight distribution)
 Good toe box but not huge, a managable one that can guaruntee a decent set
 flat clipper surface

and extra

 Looks cool and professional

Footbag demands use of the foot and leg in it's full capacity, support is for people who don't have the muscle to play.

When I said support from players muscles, I was specifically saying the shoe should not try to do what I can do with my muscles.

When I said no arch support, again, I'm saying I can provide that with my own muscles.

The purpose of a plastic support in the heel is to lock the shoe onto the foot, so the forefoot can be wide to allow the toes to be used in the full natural range of motion.

I'm at work and bored so here are some thoughts.

My ideal footbag shoe would have:
 Stand-alone toe box/walls that doesn't require lacing mod.
 Flat or slightly concave heel surface.
 Slightly concave sole surface.
 Built-in spenco-style insoles.
 A variety of bright and dull colours to choose from.
 Well desgined graphics. Ie: stripes, logos etc.
 A nice wide and stable base (sole) - like Goonits.
 Something that doesn't look like a Laver clone for a change.

Included in the box would be:
 1 Mr. Sandbag.
 1 Instruction booklet/DVD for beginners.

I would pay no more than $100 shipping included (if the shoe was rad).

EDIT: Oh, If I can only suggest the three most imoprtant things a footbag shoe must have:
 Good toe surface.
 Good inside surface.
 Good outside surface.

This is just stupid. You are saying that sporting shoes should just be flat with no arches, leaving it up to people to provide their own support? Footbag is demanding and hard on you, even if you have good form and are strong. That's not even mentioning weaker players who really need good footwear. Whether you have the muscles or not support is bound to help relieve the stresses of jumping up and down and make for a better playing experience.

We can agree to differ.

My theory comes from seven years without an injury from footbag [or running / backpacking ]. Outside of a well fitting heel cup, none of my favorite shred shoes had support structures in their construction, the brooks hyperion, the NB CT300, and the Adidas Boston.

I believe that letting the foot function naturally in the presence of developed muscles is both the highest performance possible, and the key to injury prevention. Orthotic insoles are designed to eliminate the need for one's muscles to compensate for imbalances. People that have the need for such things can add them to any shoe.

All of my sporting footwear is flat and flexible.

Well, I never asked to have fallen/flattened arches. Maybe my leg muscles can compensate for this aspect of my feet, but after having sprained my ankle so many times, I doubt that is or becomes the case in total.

I don't really care for ankle support (in matters of the area to Brockcut), however good arch support is something I failed to mention in my previous post so I'll support it here in this post. Good heel support is good in my book as well.

I've had a change of heart on pricing: around $40-60 USD. Around $70 if the shoe is well made.

I heard that in america, sneakers are way cheaper than in europe!
but:
in europe you have to pay min. 80bucks for a fucking, plain, 90's style adidas sneaker!!!
A shoe, that's just for everyday life and good-style-reasons!!!

So I think it's totally okay to pay 80$ for a shoe, that's also a sport-equipment I use (in most cases) everyday!!!!

And if this shoe comes in different, nice (bright?) colours and styles, I can also wear it on the street!!

I want to say thank you for all the input. Yes, I am designing a shoe for a large shoe company, can't mention the name right now, and your ideas and pricing are the key factors. Right now two designs are being built from the ground up. One is a hybrid and the second is for footbag only. Quality of rubber, mesh, canvas, and color options are being factored in. These may be a bit pricy for the first year, but then when costs are recovered, the price will drop. Keep one thing in mind, this shoe will not be out this year. The target date is set for 2009. Enjoy your Lavers, Quantums, and G-units until this product comes out. It is time the sport of footbag to have a REAL footbag shoe. Thanks, Richard Abshire

1) must be almost exactly like a laver with trimmer toe walls and a lower ankle (brock-cut). must have a beefier, grippier sole and stronger material for the upper than the quantum.

2) must come with an inexpensive to produce, but good for freestyle 12 panel footbag.

3) must come in black.

price less than or equal to $60

I like a shoe that fits to the foot, snug. Also I think the foot should be able to manipulate the shoe. I reinforced some stitching on my Quantums, and when I curl my toe, the shoe bends at the toe too. If you can control the shoe, you can control the bag more, instead of having to build form around what your shoe is capable of.

I also like having the ability to either have toe walls, or not have toe walls. I don't like them personally, and with the quantum I have a nice clean toe box with the walls laced down, not getting in the way at all.

Quantums fit me great, the only thing I would change for a new shoe would be a tighter fit, I had to stitch the base of the tongue to the shoe to tighten up the feel. Also some different grip on the sole. Waiting tables we have a slip resistant sole that seems like it would work great.

For price I have no problem with $80-$90. These aren't just shoes... they are a specialty performance shoe, built for one specific activity. It's not like buying some crappy skater shoe for walking around and looking "fly."
(even though footbag shoes always look fly)

When I can tell you more, I will. Keeping this under raps right now is key. This is to protect the design and the release date. All feedback will be taken into consideration. I am really thankful for all footbag players out there who see the need for better equipment and related products. More info when I have more to post. Progress will be leaked slowly. This company wants to make it work, not just another knock off product that will waste more money than we can afford. Thanks, Richard Abshire
