Camcorder questions galore!!

Not sure if this is the right area for this, but uh... I want a camcorder and I have a lot of questions. They've probably been asked before but I couldn't really find any using the search function. Sorry. :\

Ok.

1. Is MiniDV the best quality camera for the price, or are there other options that are highish quality, but cheap (eg Flash Memory, SD, whatever)?

2. If I'm looking to spend around $200 (probably no more than), should I look for a MiniDV or another type?

3. How is this one? There are a few like that for under 200.

4. Does anybody have a decent camera they're willing to sell for 200 bucks?

More questions may follow as I learn more.

Right now, MiniDV is the best route to go. I haven't seen many good reviews for the Hard drive camcorders, or the flash memory. You can still make High Def vids with a MiniDV cam, it just depends on the movie editor that you use.

That one looks to be a good one. Panasonic seems to make good camcorders.

For footbag, in your price-range, you DEFINITELY want to go MiniDV. DVD is still experimental -- MiniDV is reliable and has been the standard for years. Harddrive is a pain because if you wanna capture a reasonable amount (especially at a footbag tournament where I average 5+ tapes (1.5 hours each on LP)) you're gonna wanna tote a laptop and external harddrive everywhere you go...

Definitely go MiniDV.
They are also compatible with the higher-end "prosumer" camcorders -- even the HD ones.

Check out some reviews online. CNET is WIIICCKED and super reliable. Camcorderinfo.com (or something) is useful too. You can search for related items and within price ranges, etc.

Zac thats a good choice. I have the PV-GS85, and they both seem to have the exact same features. It's cool that your finally getting a real Camcorder. You've improved a lot since your last real vid.

Again, good choice of camera, I've only had good experiances with that brand.

my mother has a videocamera, but she lost the battery and charger when she went to porta-plata. She said i can have it for free, but i'll have to buy that stuff on its own, but before i put the money out there for the battery and charger i was just wondering if anyone would know if its quality would be good enough for filming footbag?

its a Panasonic PV-GS29 MiniDV Camcorder with 30x Optical Zoom, i know absolutely nothing about videocameras. Can anyone help?

edit: it seems like the PV-GS# the smaller the # the cheaper it is, and probably the less the quality, and if Zac settled on a PV-GS80, PV-GS29 seems alot less in the number...

Yeah that's a decent camera, I have the GS59, it's been really reliable. Most of the Panasonic models are great cameras for the money.
