2008 US Open Footbag Championships Videos

Post by redshredz »

Hey all,
For the most part I am finished editing the US Open videos, this is the first wave of them. There was a great deal of footage, including the Circle competition. For the sake of traffic control (the Sole Purpose site almost crashed last year : ) I am going to release/unlock a new vid or set of videos each day this week, with the Circle videos as the grand finale. Here is the first set. Enjoy!

Update, I have subtracted the embedded vids, seems the youtube embed does in fact have its limits. It shouldn't be a problem on anyone's browser now methinks. Thanks!

Weds. Videos
Thanks for the kind words all. Here is the beginning of the end; the Circle videos. There was a great deal of footage, thus it has been divided into four parts. Here is part one, enjoy!

ps, please feel free to download the videos and upload it to a faster site as well, many of the Circle files are too large for youtube.

Thanks for the Circle Contest video, that last run from Lon Smith was so great, he hit so much stuff in there. That's something to look up to.

I agree.
I disagree. If it was purely a point scale i would give it to ken, he only had one drop in the beginning and hit a lot of great stuff, and very clean.

This isn't shred 30 however... Lon has a way of not just doing a routine, and the moves that go along with that routine. Notice how with the "I'm just a poor boy" line he jumps higher for his symposium as the voices get more forceful. and how closer to the end he starts shredding around the edge of the stage, he's not trying to gain control of the bag, that's for the audience, it actually made me excited. Most routines are just routines, to the music, and in no way exciting...

I am no judge, and i'm not saying that lon deserved 3rd, but i don't think ken was robbed. Lon has a stage presence that rivals any big trick or combo in a routine...

4 drops to 1 drop and effectively going 2 minutes dropless?

In judging artistic and technical merit, how are these scores effected by drops?

I agree that if we discount the drops Lon had a better routine. I also think that given the drop count, you would have to score Ken higher in both fields. He had a lot less variety, but still a fairly comparable difficulty and he still had some fairly clear choreography and co-ordination with the music.

With a drop count like that, I would say that the person would 4 drops would have to be very clearly playing at a "higher level" to win and this was not the case.
