The IFPA World Footbag Championships in Prague is just over a week away! We have some important and handy information to give you before you start your journey. Please try to read all the information below.
--
1. SCHEDULE:
We have reviewed and updated the official event schedule, and it is now on the Worlds website at http://www.footbag.org/worlds2008 in the "Tournament" section. I'm also including it at the end of this e-mail below. (Please note: as always, the schedule is tentative and subject to change, but we are confident of the basic structure at this point, so you can make your final plans.)
2. LODGING:
Hostel Zahradni Mesto has no more beds available, so please do not contact the hostel to ask for a room. If you are still looking for a cheap place to stay, we have some recommendations for you on the Worlds website at http://www.footbag.org/worlds2008/accommodation.php (Note that we don't have an arrangement with any of the places listed; these are just ideas and recommendations from the Worlds staff.)
There are still hotel rooms available in the area around the Slavia sports complex. For hotels, please contact Mrs. Jirina Waidlichova who we have been using as our official local travel agent. The details for going through Mrs. Waidlichova are listed on the registration form:
http://www.footbag.org/registration/reg ... 1194517448
3. REGISTRATION: (**important**)
The registration deadline is on August 7th -- so you only have a 6 days left to register and pay.
IMPORTANT: We really need you to pre-pay. The benefits of this are enormous not only for us, but will make your day also. If you are pre-paid you will have your own express lane for check-in. All you will need to do when you go to check-in will be to sign your Player's Booklet, verify your events and partners, and pick up your player's packet which will be prepared for you beforehand with a "special prepayment" bonus for those who understand you have to pre-pay. This means your T-shirt (correct size) will also be reserved for you and put in a bag with your name on it, so that you don't have to worry if you arrive late and the size you want is gone!! This is a very good benefit for you, and helps us immensely as well, so we strongly urge that everyone pre-pay by August 7th, using the online registration form at:
http://www.footbag.org/registration/reg ... 1194517448
Late registration and check-in will run on Sunday, August 10th, at Slavia Athletic Stadium (the event site) from 11am (11.00) to 10pm (22.00).
This is the time when you can arrive, pay your fees if necessary, and get your player's pack. This is the ONLY chance for you to check in if you did not pre-pay by August 7th!! Only "guests" (not competing) or pre-paid players will be able to pick up player's packs after this time.
If you are pre-paid or a "guest", your registration is guaranteed, and if you can't make it to the express check-in on Sunday, you will still have two possible 2-hour windows when you can pick up your player's pack: on Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 - 13:00.
If you are just pre-registered but not pre-paid, then you will stand in a long line. If this is your case, please have your registration money ready in exact change.
If you are not registered at all, then you will pay a high late registration fee and will have to wait until all others are served. We are very serious about this -- please do everything you can to pre-pay so that you can avoid long lines and late-registration penalties. And please understand that if you did not pre-pay by August 7th, you must arrive by Sunday evening to register and pay on-site. After that, you will not be allowed to compete in any events.
Some people don't have international credit cards which are required for the online registration. In this case, we recommend you contact someone in your club who is also going, or a parent or family member, and ask them to pay your fee for you. Then you can pay them in cash. It is worth this, we promise! And you only have until next Thursday to do this, so please don't waste another minute.
If you are unwilling/unable to pre-register/pre-pay before August 7th, and you can't attend Sunday's check-in times to register and pay, then you must find a friend to do this for you, or you will not be able to compete in any events! This is very important.
On-line registration and payment should only take you 4 minutes. We strongly recommend you do this now and don't want until the last minute: http://www.footbag.org/registration/reg ... 1194517448
4. PLAYER SPONSORSHIPS:
If you have chosen to sponsor this event with a donation as part of your online registration, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This event will be very expensive, and anything you can do to offset our costs would be greatly appreciated and will go to making this an even better event for all the players.
However, we need to know for sure who our sponsors are. Simply selecting a sponsorship amount on the online registration form is easy -- the hard and important part is actually sending us the money. Because we want to credit our sponsors in the player's booklet, and thank our sponsors in various ways, we really need to know for sure who is CONFIRMED as a sponsor before we print all the materials, etc.
So, if you are planning to donate money via the registration form, please be sure to pre-pay by August 7th! If you don't, we can't list you in the player's booklet and we may not be able to recognize you. We sincerely appreciate all the help we have been pledged through the online registrations to date, but only a few of the people listed have actually pre-paid; so unfortunately unless you go back and pay before August 7th, we may not be able to give you all the recognition you deserve. See above for additional pre-payment information.
5. NEW EVENTS ADDED:
Due to popular demand, we have added a few events to the registration form since our last announcement:
* We are offering a Master's Net Division (35 of age and up) for both master's singles and master's doubles net.
* For the Open Women's Freestyle Division, we're adding Open Women's Circle.
* We have added Open Sick 3-Trick to the freestyle events offered.
If you wish to compete in any of these events, and did not see them when you first registered, please simply return to the registration form and choose the additional events you would like to play. This won't change the cost; so, if you pre-paid, it will just automatically confirm your registration. To add or change events, simply return to the registration form as often as you like before August 7th and click through the screens until you confirm your new registration:
http://www.footbag.org/registration/reg ... 1194517448
6. GENERAL INFORMATION:
So far, we have 217 players from 24 countries who have pre-registered online. Unfortunately, of those, only 67 have actually pre-paid as of today -- not the ratio we were shooting for. So PLEASE do your part to pre-pay before the deadline.
Also, each night there will be a social gathering in various cool places; more information will be available in the player's booklet once you check in.
For local information, a lot of details are on the Worlds website at <http>.
Feel free to e-mail worlds2008 @ ifpa DOT footbag DOT org to get help with any last-minute questions or concerns you may have. We look forward to presenting one of the best IFPA World Footbag Championships to the footbag community in just a week and a half from now!

Looking forward to seeing you all in Prague!!
Looking forward to seeing you all in Prague!!
As long as this continues to be stickied, I figured it'd be a good place to put this article about Little Sister.
This New York Times article talks about how the financial crisis has hurt the prostitution business in Europe. Half the article talks about a brothel in Prague called "Little Sister." If it sounds familiar, it's because that's the place where the afterparty on Saturday night (so, the final party of Worlds) was scheduled to take place. When I got the players book at worlds, I thought it was a bit tasteless to have a strip club as the final afterparty of worlds, and to print it in the players booklet. Only now do I find out: it's not just a strip club, it's an actual brothel! Be sure to read the part about men getting to have free sex, in exchange for their consent to be filmed and broadcast.
You stay classy, Worlds 08.

You'll have to find another place to post that now.C-Fan wrote:As long as this continues to be stickied, I figured it'd be a good place to put this article about Little Sister.

Judging from all of the toiletry mishaps that happened during Worlds this year at Prague, I'm not sure if a brothel, given the opportunity to sex people up, would be a healthy idea.
