Bank cards in Prague

Hi. I've got Maestro bank card (Polish). Is it possible to use it in Prague? I mean, to pay in shops and/or to take cash in cash mashines?

In Frankfurt I couldn't use my card in shops. That's why I'm asking.

probably not in shops but they will definetely work with cash mashines

On a similar note, here are some tips for American travelers:

1. Call your credit card company and let them know you will be in prague during the week of worlds. If you don't, and they see that somebody (you) is using your card in prague, they will put a hold on your credit, which means you will only be able to use it once. It's a real fast phone call, and it saves you a headache later.

2. On the back of your credit card there is a number you can call if you lose your card. Most of the time it starts with "757." Of course, if you lose your card, you won't have this number handy, so I recommend you jot that number down someplace separate from your wallet, so you can call if you lose your card.

3. Most credit card companies will charge you an extra 3% per foreign purchase, so keep that in mind when you are considering buying things.

pay attention to the logos on your card too. the major ones that helped me out in costa rica were "plus" and of course "visa"

just make sure any ATM you use has a logo thats on your card

Another helpful tip: if your atm pin is 7 digits, change it. I use bank of america (where pins are 4-7 digits), and when I went to europe the maximum number of digits in your pin was 6 on every atm machine! I couldn't get any money out and it was very annoying.
