What's minimum wage in the US? I think $9 an hour is way below Australia's, taking into account the exchange rate.
Federal minimum wage here in Bawhstun (Ew) is 8 dollars. In WA where I'm from it was the highest in the union at 8.07. In Kansas where Mr. Isilwar is it is 2.65 :G
I dunno what the situation in WA is now, but when I was in HS minimum wage really meant something like 9 dollars. Maybe the economy has bosses stingy these days and kids are getting 8.07 but I could never work a job for that unless it was entirely under table.
Australia has one of the highest minimum wages in the world at around 12.50 US Dollars. How much you guys get taken in taxes I'm not sure.
In Australia if you were on minimum wage, you would pay barely any tax (depending on how many hours you work of course). Of the top of my head, you pay no tax for earning up to $6000 and 15% for the next $30000. If you're earning over $35000 you either working really shit hours or not on minimum wage (these figures are guesses - the tax brackets changed this year, so I could be slightly wrong. I'm sure google knows the answers though).
People under 18 also don't have to pay any tax no matter what their income.
Less than $14 an hour and working full time will be poverty line stuff here. Trying to support yourself on minimum wage here = poverty.

People under 18 are taxed, I'm assuming you are referring to standard part time job type situations under $6000 when you say this.
15, plus at least a couple after-hours and weekend lock-outs and other various emergency calls each week, for which i get 50% of whatever the total bill is
