Paul G's Personal Fitness Journal

Post by The Rhino »

Currently Reading a Fitness Program book which deals with warm ups, core training, equipment, stretching, eating, etc.

got me a calorie intake journal

taking Cod Liver Oil and an incredible multivitamin.

The equipment I have bought so far is: Stability ball.

Current weight: 250
Inches: 50.75

seriously, I SERIOUSLY enjoy learning about all this stuff... If... When I get in awesome shape and fit and all that , perhaps I will pursue being a personal trainer like Andrew and Aaron and Shayla. word.

Here we go. say goodbye to this obese footbagger and say hello to the new and improved slender shredder.

Do you have a gym membership? Personally I think stability balls are a huge waste of time/money/energy. I would return it and use the money for food or gym fees.

Good luck with the progress. I look forward to reading more posts in this thread.

I half-agree with this. I'm not a huge fan of the balls, but man the Bosu Ball trainer is AMAZING. It's half of a ball with a sturdy flat base. I can't do situps without it anymore, it provides perfect support without sacrificing stability.

Anyway I lost like 30 lbs playing footbag when I first started, so yeah go for it man. Also try to walk half hour to an hour a day if you can, that helps a lot too. Good luck!

Fixed.

Stability balls / bosu balls are not the most effective way to exercise if you are trying to change the way your body looks. If you are training for a specific sport or sports performance then I guess a case could be made for them but otherwise they will just slow down your progress. You want to be lifting HEAVY with good form. Any way in which you restrict your weight by compromising your stability is gonna hurt your lifts and possible lead to injury and decreases gains in the gym. Further if you are training for a specific sport your time is better spent training that sport in stead of doing a half assed exercise on a stability ball in the gym.

If you want to loose weight you want to do weights/eat properly and maybe even do cardio. Really how and what you eat will be the most important factor that will affect weight lose. Lifting heavy will help your body while working out and for several hours after you have already stopped. You don't need to do situps. I know everyone here will jump down my throat because every one thinks that situps = six pack. This is so wrong that I won't even address it. Spend your time in the gym doing full body movements if you want to change the way your body looks and you just get into training. Don't waste time directly training your abs/forearms.

Recently I heard that the people who kept a calorie intake journal lost twice as much weight as those who did not keep one. Now that I am doing that, I totally understand why.

Yes Jon, I understand what you are saying, some of the pro's with "the fruit on the tree" are saying SOME of the same things you are saying with all the technical jargon. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

Shredzilla, Footbag also has helped me BEGIN to loose weight, but I haven't actually started the fitness program as of yet, BECAUSE, the book said NOT TO START until I have finished reading the book, so that I will have a proper understanding of the cardio, core, upper, lower, warmup, cooldown, basically every aspect of what I will be training. Thanks for your encouragement!

Ben, You know you inspire me. nuff said.

New equipment obtained: Resistance Bands, dumbells. can't wait to get started. It's going to be so on.

Well, I finished the Fitness Training Book. I'm ready to get started.

New equipment obtained: dumbells, tape measure.

I can feel the multivitamin kicking in with the antioxidants doing a number on me...

Here we go. A total lifestyle change.

In case it's helpful (and because I just happened to type this up the other day anyways): After a year's worth of research, question/answer, trial and error, and 40+ pounds lost and kept off, here's how I eat and exercise:

Breakfast choices:
- Banana, cereal, toast and PB
o Cold cereal – goal is to select something with whole grains and fiber and low sugar.
- Oatmeal with rasins, yogurt
o For oatmeal, they warn about pre-sweetened packets because of high sugar..
- 2 eggs, veggie sausage, piece of toast… sub in home fries instead of toast is ok too.
- Or any similar combination of these
- Good granola bars are ok too (the kind where whole wheat is among first ingredients)

Mid morning snack:
- The fruit listed with breakfast above will be eaten as my mid morning calories

Lunch
- Sandwich (Pb&J, Turkey and cheese etc.), yogurt, something else (usually whole wheat crackers etc.)

Afternoon snack:
- Apple and 4-5 peanut butter crackers with lids (good, whole wheat crackers)
- Good granola bars are ok too

Dinner:
- Basic example: a protein source (e.g. chicken), healthy rice (brown), broccoli.
- I don't eat after 7 p.m. Period.

Alcohol:
- I figure 2 beers per day is accepted in many circles, so I limit myself to a max of 14 beers per week (2 x 7). You have to have some indulgences right?

Exercise:
- Footbag 4 days per week for average of 30-40 minutes each.
- Some other sport (basketball, biking, walking a golf course) 2 times per week for average of 30-40 minutes each.
- "lifting" - I do practical exercises, and a lot of body weight exercises. My goal is to be lean, and to be strong at things I normally need to do. Like, I tend to hammer and saw a lot of things... so I'll attempt to do realistic types of exercises that will build strength for those tasks. Lots of chinups, pushups, and situps too (and variations). I was doing these things 2-3 times per week, but am aiming for 3-4 times per week now.

Man, I seriously thought I was going to pass out and perhaps die last night after about 30 minutes of circuit training.... I was P W N 3 D. totally couldn't go on. I couldn't even do stretches, I was DONE. wow. I think I was realeasing the toxins that were built up in my muscles and stuff and I felt like KRIZZAP. felt so bad i felt like I was GYBAS'ing. (or gmbas'ing)
I slept ALOT, and I don't sleep too much.

anyway, woke up... thought about checking my weight. and I was shocked to see I am no longer in the 250's but rather in the 240's now.

amazing. frick. Peace.
