Tell me if I'm wrong even if I'm right
I'll usually not get hungry until 14 hours+ after eating dinner, and if I do eat before that time I'll either get stomach pain or a headache.
I eat dinner at around 5 or 6 pm, go to bed at 10, wake up at 8, and not get hungry until at or after 12 pm, sometimes earlier or later..
You can't even tell me that it depends how long you've been awake after dinner....because I used to be on a different schedule, go to bed at 7 pm, wake up at 2 am... and I still wouldn't get hungry until around 14 hours after eating.
Breakfast is the least important meal of the day.
And even though I'm fat, some days I just don't feel like eating, so I won't, sometimes for a couple days.
I think most people are like me.
The best thing to eat before footbag is nothing at all. Thats what I always found worked best.
I can even tell you that all of that is wrong. Since I've talked to you before, I know you are probably eating way too much for dinner, but breakfast is the best meal to eat (whether you are hungry or not). You will less likely overeat the rest of the day. I have no idea why, but I was told that. And blah blah blah. Maybe Aaron or someone can fill me in here.
It doesn't matter if you are hungry or not for any meal, either. Eat something to keep your metabolism going. The less frequently you eat, the less your metabolism will run.
And I do not know exactly what to eat before footbag, but I have learned that eating anything kind of heavy has not been great for me, and eating nothing hasn't been good, either. A couple of muffins or some quick carb seem to do the trick for me right now...along with Powerade and water while playing.

Najeh wrote:yo whatup hey i was wondering what kind of cross training you recommend for footbag that isnt lifting or weight training or anything like that. i go jogging once or twice a week and do some bodyweight excercises while i stretch to warm up before a session but i dont really know exactly what i should be doing or when. in general i think i need to work on my core strength and maybe some uppper body as well because those muscles dont get much attention from footbagging alone. thx in advance

I work a 9-5 out in the field doing somewhat physical labor, play an hour of footbag, play an hour of competitive water polo, swim 1-2 hours at high intensity, and rock climb for 30 minutes each day. How many calories should I have in my diet?, and what meals would you recommend to meet that requirement?
Thanks
Thanks

After you answer all of the above questions, ponder this one:
I'm about 5'10", weigh in at 165 typically. I'd guess that I probably have about 20 pounds of fat on me that I don't need. I have a short term goal to reach 155 lbs, so dropping at least 10 pounds of fat but also gaining muscle.
I am going about achieving this goal currently by:
-modifying diet: intake is primarily protein-rich foods (legumes, meats, fresh and cooked veggies, egg whites, and minimizing carb/sugar intake)
-100 pushups regimen (program to ^ max amount of pushups (3x weekly))
-daily or so 10 min of abs
-bike riding-between 8 and 10 miles per week
-playing Net or Takraw 3-5 times weekly.
I know that adding muscle helps to burn fat more quickly. I am doing pushups and crunches for this purpose, and don't really have access to weights at the moment. What might you recommend dietarily for me? Can you confirm that I am making smart choices, or have suggestions for modification of my diet? Right now Lunch is my "biggest" meal of the day, although my lunch typically extends over a 2 hour period, during which I snack on nuts, apple sauce, fresh fruit, a main dish that is usually veggie rich with some meat. My b-fast is small because I'm not typically hungry when I wake up. I try to keep dinner fairly light, maybe have a late night healthy snack if I get hungry. In about 2 weeks of healthy eating with minimal cardio exercise (due to leg injury) Ive gone from 169 to 164 lbs, so I feel like I'm on the right track.
Any sugestions?
Thanks Aaron!

Not that I was asked but I don't believe it is possible to loss fat and gain muscle at the same time. Your body either gains muscle and fat, loses muscle and fat, or does neither. I would say the biggest lie that most personal trainers tell their clients is that this is an achievable goal.

Hey Aaron, just wanted to say this thread was a great idea! learned some useful things
I go to the gym at least 5 days a week for an average of 2 hours each workout. I'm concentrating on cardio and weight lifting, how much time should I spend on each? During the week I usually play footbag for about an hour and then lift free weights or use machines. On weekends I lap swim for about an hour both Sat. n Sun.
I'm trying to build muscle mass as well as keep getting in better shape.
The building mass part used to be difficult, I'm vegetarian, but lately have been drinking a Naked protein drink after every workout, they supposedly have 30grams of protein per bottle(and delicious).
Are there any other foods besides like eggs and peanut butter that provide a good deal of protein or similar that would help to get more of?
Thanks!

If you're that serious Drew, consider some supplements if you have not already.
I would say at least consider Animal Pak, it's a multivitamin supp. If you dont know what you should be eating this can really help out, espeically for the time being while you figure out a good diet. But even then the Pak is a good idea.
I see you are already taking some sort of protein shake. DO you happen to know the brand name of it and how much you paid. Just be careful because if you are buying them in stores the prices skyrocket. If you buy anything further do it online and do your research. People get ripped off a lot. Your supp. only has 30 grams of protein, i would like to know your weight to determine how much protein a day you should be taking in. it could be crucial to your muscle developement. If you're into the whey protein then consider ON 100% Whey Protein. You get much more substance for the price than most. Check out bodybuilding.com, look through the store and read the forums, check out reviews too. Just becareful 'round those parts....it can get nasty.

Hey Ben, thanks for response.
I'm 6'1 weigh 180lbs. the drink is usually Naked brand, the two protein flavors they sell both contain 30g protein and soy and whey, buy em at 7-11 for about $3/20-ish oz bottle. I've been thinking about either buying in bulk or a different/similar thing in bulk. Any suggestions?
I'll look into Animal Pak too, I know what I should be eating for the most part, and it's keeping me in good form and I've definitely seen muscle improvements, but I think I'll call a nutritionist at my Univ. and set up a free appt in the future. I'm just trying to maximize the impact of the food I eat with the effect I desire.
Oh I forgot to mention I'm slowly building this all up to begin training for triathlons. The biking is fine, have been working on swimming and running alot lately, so I burn a lot of calories/day and should probably eat MORE than I currently do
but all in due time.

I'm back.
Vegetarian diets suffer due to both fat and protein deficiencies. Since this diet is restricted from animal products, it doesn't mean that the essential nutrients in animals aren't still required. Fat Soluble Vitamins A, D, E, and K are found in saturated fats like animal meat, butter, and lard all of which you won't find in either a vegetarian, vegan, or "fat free" diet. Trying to replace these vitamins, along with minerals like magnesium, calcium, and zinc is extremely tough when in the midst of a weight gaining program.
My recommendation for you is to increase your fat/protein intake through items such as peanut butter, eggs, milk (if you drink it), nuts, tofu, soy, and seed oils. In addition, your glucose levels must be very high in order to deal with the increased stress on your body plus its normal metabolic function. This calls for a substantial increase in calories from carbohydrates also, since your an endurance athlete this should 55-60% of your daily calories.
Judging by your build, 180, at 6'1, with aspirations for an increase in lean tissue, your metabolic rate is going to around 3900 calories a day by the harris benedict equation (Active individual). Too improve lean tissue, you will need a surplus of around 300-500 calories in addition to that a day. Start loading up on oats, fruits, pastas, and rice. Eat often and take a strong multivitamin like Animal Pak or a pharmaceutical grade supplement.
As long as your consistent with training and eating often, your goals will be a success.
