I like how it's ok to praise the shit out of someone after they are dead, even if you didn't know them or like them. But if you disliked them and express that dislike after they are dead, you are a complete asshole. It's like after someone dies, they automatically become a saint so you must speak well of them, just because they fact they died. It doesn't make someone heartless to speak ill of the dead, it makes them honest to their opinion.
Personally, I could care less if he died. He wasn't that funny and was pretty much an hardass/asshole. That was his character though.
It's not about being "honest", it's about not being an asshole. Who gives a shit if he was a bad comedian, that probably doesn't even touch on how he was as a person. Obviously ou don't have to praise him, but come on. Don't just flat out say he sucked. That's just fucking stupid and ridiculously disrespectful.

But come on? Great argument, wow, you really changed my mind with that. He sucks, flat out. By saying that, I am expressing an opinion, as you are by calling mine "fucking stupid". What are you trying to accomplish? Am I supposed to say "Oh ur right, he was soooo cool!" or something? I even said his character was an asshole and I am solely commenting on his comedian persona. What are you missing?
I called him a heartless bastard because he said he deserved to die. THAT is completely disrespectful. Its okay to voice your opinion but to wish death upon someone who did absolutely nothing wrong? Thats fucked up
"I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

And you skipped over my point that said you didn't know him as a person. I expected that exact response, actually.
edit: fixed a typo

I think nobody cares about you or jstrubs' footbag game. It's an irrelevant ad hominem attack between two insignificant people.
I would say that you shouldn't pretend a person was good or that you liked them after they die if you didn't, but neither is it at all constructive to needlessly criticise them. I guess it depends on the context of the discussion as well. Often if you do criticise dead people needlessly, it reflects a lot worse on you than it does on them. Some level of awareness and subtlety is helpful.
