I take partial credit for her ability to fight left-handers

One of the womens gymnasts, the one who was injured and didn't get to compete much (if at all) for the U.S. team, Samantha Peszek, trains at a club where I used to when I was younger, and given the ages and starting age it is likely that I trained alongside her for a while but given how long ago that was i can't be certain, either way kinda neat to see a hometown gymnast from my old club at the Olympics haha

Yeah I know. I knew something was wrong with the opening ceremony, but being in a Chinese family, everyone was a braggard and supported China's decision like it was nothing.Eskimo Joe wrote:Did you guys and gals here about some of the staged effects and stuff from the opening ceremonies? The little girl singing was fake, and some of the fireworks were digitized.
And to make a few quick statements, because I'm busy watching the Olympics now and not taking interest on anything else:
Beach volleyball rocks - the US are winners in my book
Men's volleyball is awesome - totally rooting for USA but I'm expecting China's performance
Shooting - go USA! Saw a grown man cry for Italy winning Silver.
Swimming - Whooooooooooooooooooo Phelps!
Gymnastics - can't wait for the all-around competition.

Well, the obvious loss of the Men's US team against Latviah was seriously surprising. However, I feel that the team for the US Women's beach volleyball, May-Treanor/Walsh, is a sight to see. It's going to be tough, but I think they have a really strong defensive play against all of the other teams.
It's going to be tough for Rogers and Dalhausser, so I'm wishing them the best. Dalhausser has mentioned plenty of times that he doesn't like playing against people much smaller than he is, and that gives a slight set-back on his blocks and defensive strategies. However, if Rogers can help supplement his partner's weakness with his iron support, I think they have a chance.

I got a little riled up on the Women's Gymnastics all-around comp. Nastia Liukin was seriously underscored for vault and uneven bars, and Yang Yi Lin was scored way more than she was supposed to (I saw those balance checks, I can tell). Thankfully, at beam and floor exercise, both Liukin and Johnson dominated.
In an added note, watching Bela Karolyi's reactions to it all was hilarious. That man is passionate about gymnastics.
And yeah, the 100m fly was wicked! 00.01 of a second!!

I think it's great that MP got 8 golds, but I think it's wrong to say he's the greatest Olympian of all time. Swimming gives you so many chances to win a medal. At least 2 races for each stroke and tons of relays...
If you're a great swimmer you can win a bunch of medals, but if you're a great table tennis player you can win at most, what, 2 medals? Singles and doubles?
I feel like to be classified as the greatest Olympian you should win a medal in at least 2 different sports. To me that would be more impressive and worthy of the title.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

I don't see a gymnast specializing in all aparatuses without having some minute detail against their starting score, like balance checks, falls or an extra nerve going against their focus. Also, I just watched the competitions for trampoline yesterday afternoon, which is a part of gymnastics in a way, but I haven't seen many participants from Team USA in gymnastics specializing in that event. Maybe it's an individual event?
Alexander Artemev fell off the pommel horse in the finals for that apparatus. Sure, he doesn't have a huge starting score for his techniques, but he always performs with such flair. It would have been nice to see him go out with a bang, but he was going against some tough competition. I wish I knew what techniques you do constitute to your starting score.
Beach Volleyball is getting really intense. Dalhausser/Rogers just had a tough game against the Germans 21-13, 25-23.
I wish I saw the finals for Badminton. It looked really epic!
