Monday Gym Session 22.10.2007

Andy, Tobi, me.

My Stepping was good again, I hit some really decent runs. My strength
is coming back, so is my stamina - slowly, but steady.

Highlights:

Diving clipper>Ducking Clipper>Diving Clipper>Ducking Clipper>Ducking Clipper>Diving Clipper>Ducking Clipper>run

Reverse Whirling Swirl (again)

And a nice pickup run with Pixie same pickup, and far pickup, near pickup and Ducking Pickup all bsos (I hardly ever do pickups)

Andy is getting better every session, his game is getting smoother every week.

Yesterday was Andy's 18th birthday party!!

Andy, Toby, Bea, Max and me did a footbag presentation for the guest.

I'ts been a while since I last saw Bea shred - I was so impressed.
Her style has become even more fluid, and during warmup she easily
hit a run with ripwalk>ripwalk and pdx whirl midrun, as well as super-
smooth ducking clippers. So smooth!

On January 31st, 2008, my wife Caroline gave birth to our wonderful daughter

Letizia Faying Ahrens.

3220g
50cm

Letitzia is the spanish form of latin "Laetitia" and means "Joy".
Faying is Thai and means "Princess".

She is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me.

I had my comeback session 4 days ago - after a whopping 6-month footbag absence!!

Comeback session - May, 11th 2008

I have gained quite some weight over the last months and in return lost quite a lot of my stamina. So I took it easy and practiced all my
concepts.

Stepping is still there, flipside is weak though.
Hit a couple of nice rev swirls.
Did manage to get some nice spinning attempts, and hit some spinning clippers, spinning legover and gyro mirages. dropped on a spinning ducking clipper.
my string length is not worth mentioning - I need to get some stamina back!!
I did hit 35 butterflies though. (record is 36, for at least 2 years now  )

I watched a couple of videoclips from 2 years back and to my shame
I have to admit I haven't really improved since then...

I just copy&pasted all of my Munich-Footblog entries into my own
personal blog which I stopped almost 3 1/2 years ago. I want to
keep better track of my own progress.

Fun fact:

In October 2005 I've already hit 38 butterflies
so it's now new record...

one should remember one's personal bests...

Just found an old textfile on a backup-cdr called "footbag-move-history" -
I was surprised to see I wrote down all my progress ever since the
beginning of freestyle footbag for me - hitting my first mirage :)

I've inserted it into the first post of this blog.

I actually found some spare time today and played for 30mins in front of
the house...

ooh it's been ages again since I played. I've gained so much weight -
my stamina is all gone.

I went through the basics, and I figured out my main problem: setting
the bag. My sets are often pretty sloppy and I have to bail far too much.

I need a new bag!

Anyone who is willing to donate a free footbag will receive a signed
photograph from my 5 1/2 month old daughter doing a footbag pose!!

26th July 2008

I shredded for 40 minutes - mainly basics.
Very dissapointing session. I played sloppy, out of control, and
my stamina is super-weak.

I did hit 38 butterflies again though, and after one minute pause I did
another 26. Let's see how these scores increase when my stamina increases.

I bought some blue Spenco Gel insoles yesterday, and they feel good.
I bought some new red laces for my red lavers, and when I tried them
yesterday, I realised that I play much more precise and controlled
with lavers than with G-Units. I have a hard time setting precisely with
G's -> with Lavers it was much cleaner. I think the G's are just too
bulky for me.

So, next session will be in good ole' Lavers again, even though the
cushioning is worse.

I ordered a Bag from Sergej Kozlov, I'll get it after worlds, woo! My
first bag in 3-4 years... :) Right now I'm shredding with my Ilja bag.
My Mini-Abshire is retired since the last tourney I went to -> GFO 2005.
Szimon played his finals routine with it, and at Circles, everybody
wanted to play with my Abshire -> when it came back to me, it was
full of holes ;)

I'm still working on the munich-footbag anthology DVD, it's a lot
of work, but I was surprised how many videos I gathered that
are not on our website. The total size is over 7gigs, so I'm thinking
of burning it on a double layer dvd, for I want the best quality possible
for the videos - most crew shred vids are in DV quality uncompressed.
It looses a bit of quality when shrunk to 4,5 gigs...

Stachus/Kaufingerstr. Shred with Max and me.

First shred with someone else for me in a long time! It was great to
meet Max again after so long and shred with him. The weather was
good to us, and we played at the Brunnen next to the Karstadt am Dom.
Many people stopped to watch us play, many filmed, it was cool
to play in front of people again.

My game was ok, I did hit some stepping tricks also midrun, and one
really surprising thing:

A run ending with Reverse Whirling Swirl>surprised handcatch!
Totally out of the blue and first try. Woo.

also:
blur>butter>flip blur>butter
weaving clipper>ducking clipper repeat
stepping same reverse whirl

Here's the video of rev whirling swirl:
