I'll be going. I was saying to Andrew that I definitely can't *afford* to go...but I was sitting here picturing the future version of myself that chose not to attend Hackrifice 10, and I simply despised what I saw.

I'll be there, but it's going to be kinda chaotic since I'm moving to Vancouver directly before the event.

I'll buy tickets today and I'll get back to y'all. Is it cool if I arrive on the thursday instead of friday?

I just realised that the orientation for the course I'm taking in Vancouver begins the day after Hackrifice ends. Sweet.

WHAT:
-The 10th Annual Hackrifice Footbag Tournament

WHEN:
-September 19-20-21st 2008

WHERE:
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Friday: The Forks Market (afternoon)/ The University of Manitoba (evening)
Saturday: Prelims venue TBA (afternoon)/ The Park Theater (evening)
Sunday: The Forks Market

EVENTS:
-Net: Singles, Doubles, "Winnipeg Doubles" ("Winnipeg doubles" is doubles vs. a single)

-Freestyle: Routines, Rippin' Run Elimination Tableau.
These will be the official events included in the finals show. All official freestyle events will be run on saturday. Side events may be included for fun on sunday.

SHIRTS:
-We always try to bring something cool to the table, and this year will be no exception. We're also gonna be kicking it retro. If you never managed to get your paws on some of our originals, we're reprinting a few select throw backs from years gone by...

Schedule of events:
Friday
-??:?? Players arrive through out the day.
-??:?? Early registration through out the day. (get your players pack and hand in your music)
-2:00pm-??:?? An early afternoon shred at the forks for those arriving in the AM.
-8:00pm-??:?? Late night spike and shred at the University till the wee hours of the morning.
-??:??-??:?? Food and drink at a local eatery, assuming we donâ€™t shred all night.
-Sleep.

Saturday
-10:00am Wake up, shit, shave, shower, and head out.
-11:00am â€“ 12:00pm Late registration at the Prelims venue (TBA). (get your players pack and hand in your music.)
-1:00pmâ€“2:00pm Intermediate routine qualifications.
-2:00pm-3:00pm Open routine qualifications.
-3:00pm â€“ 5:00pm Shred at your leisure, but save your legs for finals!
-7:00pm-8:00pm Outta towners dinner.
8:00pm-9:30pm Nap time.
-10:30pm Arrive at the Park Theater. Competitors warm up their legs, spectators prepare their drinking arms.
-11:00pm-2:00am Intermediate routine finals, Open routine finals, Rippinâ€™ Run, party down.

Sunday

not sure what prices are like, but it's centraly located in respect to all the other locations, on a major bus route making travel easier, etc. not sure about price however.

I want two smalls of the Hackrifice '05 tee!! I cannot stress this enough!

I will also sponsor a prize bag. I have yet to make it or brag on how cool it looks and plays, but I guarantee that it will be a winner! I will also have bags for sale at this tournament!

I may need a ride from/to the airport on Sunday at the beginning/end of Hackrifice 10. I think my flight might have a minor schedule change from my arrival from NYC, but I will post about it asap in this topic. I would greatly appreciate getting some contact info so that I can arrive at this tourney as safely as possible.

I love how you scheduled nap time. I look forward to that part.

I really doubt it will go down, but maybe if we eat enough lasagna we'll just pass out.

I'm also glad that if I don't get to exercise my legs during finals, I'll at least be able to exercise with said drinking arms!

Good plan, sounds like it will be an amazing time!

I was talking to a fellow NYFA member about my upcoming trip to Hackrifice (Barrett Neimeth), and we came up with the idea of selling our recent NYFA Invitational Tournament t-shirts at this tournament. If anyone is interested in a shirt, just name your size and the amount of t-shirts you want, and shoot me a PM. I will sell at the same price that the Hackrifice tees are selling at this tournament, for fairness' sake.

I believe trades are welcome, depending on how many people are interested. Let me know what you guys think.

Dear footbag friends:

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that I will no longer be attending Hackrifice 10. I sprung this on Andrew the other day really unfairly since I had promised a bunch of you a place to stay and a me to shred with. Since he as organizer now has to figure out what to do with a lack of floorspace for 6-some people, I've put him in a giant, stress full pickle. I feel really badly that I will miss out on hanging with people whom with I was really, really, really looking forward to hanging (not to mention that I promised people a place to stay and can no longer follow through). It was a super hard decision to make. I was in Europe for a month for Worlds in Prague and visiting my girlfriend in Munich, Germany. On my last night in Munich I found out that my nice job back in Winnipeg was given to someone with seniority over myself. I was also going to move into my best friend's place either just before or just after Hackrifice, but that fell through too. So I weighed my options, and staying here in Munich, and delaying my flight, and applying for a visa, and looking for a job won over to my hacky-loving regret. Missing Hackrifice was the biggest con about staying here [in Munich] that I had to weigh against, and it was really, really difficult to make that decision in, like, 4 hours.

I hope I will see all of you again in the future.

Erik,

That must have been a hard decision! I will promise to try and stay in footbag as long as possible so that we can shred again some day. Maybe the scene in Vancouver will pick up now that Im shredding and Caro is here and Kevin is moving here so hopefully it picks up and you can visit Van sometime soon.

As for crash space, I am staying in a hotel near some of the venue's and Im sure if it comes down to someone not coming due to lack of expenses, someone could bring sleeping bag or mattress and crash in my hotel.

well, if there isn't enough floor space for me, lopes, i'd totally be down for throwing in for that hotel room if you're ok with another body in the room. i have no idea what the current situation is, but i'd like to get it figured out sooner rather then later

I understand what you're going through Erik, but it still pains me that i won't be able to meet and hang with you at Hackrifice 10!

Our time at Worlds just felt a bit too short for me.

However, even with my heavy heart, I respect and fully understand your situation. I would go through the same decisive process that you had to go through under the same circumstances as well. The only good I can offer is to enjoy myself at Hackrifice and just feel that you are here with all of us in spirit.

I wish you the best in your stay at Munich. Have a great time and good luck on the visa and job situation there!

Now... poor Andrew.

Let's all do whatever we can to make his weekend easier. It was already going to be a shitload of work for him, so this is bruuutal. If anyone has ever organized an event you know how rough it is, and Hackrifice seems to go even above and beyond the average tourney, so just try to imagine what a stressball this guy is going to be!

Let's all pull together, k?

If desired/needed/permitted, I promise to:

-help shop, lug, chop veggies (haha) and just prepare any provisions (I do owe this to Andrew already, he helped us SO much at T.O. Jam)
-deal with tickets at the door of the event
-help with competition stuff (like chasing down players)
-learn itineraries, maps & directions, and anything else important, and then take responsibility to recite them to anyone who needs them
-probably make a fool of myself in routines, and do it with a genuine smile blazoned across my face
-shred it up and party down with anyone and everyone
-probably make a fool of myself on the dance floor, and do it with a plastered grin plastered across my face
-be awesome as always

...which is yet another thing I owe him... he probably doesn't know it, but there was a moment at the T.O. Jam after-party where I was having trouble finally relaxing and I was on the brink of bursting into tears, cuz of all the tolling responsibilities, stress, and physical/mental exhaustion... He then showed some sincere appreciation, which actually brought me closer to tears.

... I don't know if he sensed it or not, but he immediately snapped me out of it, demanded we hit the bar, and turned it into an amazingly fun night.

If you know Andrew you know that he deserves to have as much fun at this jam as the rest of us.

And Manna- time to man up buddy.

Jump in, it'll be good practice for next year.

hehe i will try and help as much as possible... i dont know if there will even be a next year though. i dont know who will all wanna come, plus this s.o.b cant drive cuz hes to young. plus i would need crash space. next year is still in the workss... it alll depends.

Ok... well... it's good practice either way. And if it's the only chance you'll get to help organize until who knows when... shouldn't you take it? I know you can't really do big things being so young and all, and Andrew seems to have already taken care of the most important stuff anyway, but there are so many little things you can do to help out. You can be his right hand man na.
