Vancouver-area footblog

Post by SnowBlindSloth »

So, I am originally from Toronto, and a few days ago I moved to Vancouver for school. I am attending UBC and, if all goes will, will continue to attend for 4 years. Any Vancouver area shredders can post meeting times/locations/plans/new tricks/anything in this blog.

So, today was my first session and I was really apprehensive that I was really rusty and not ready to play in front of people. But, I knew I had too, so I picked up the hack before an evening lecture. I only had an hour, but I was determined to make the best...Turns out it was one of my best solo sessions ever!! Highlights:
-50 tiltless (new record!)
-hitting long tiltless drills first try (I was on fire )
-8 infinities (new record!)

Not to mention some kids showed interest...one guy saw me (and the rest of FAT) at an event in Toronto - turns out he was visiting Toronto and hit up Pedestrian Sundays when we were playing - he's interested in playing now. A lot of kids had really positive reactions and made a great atmosphere to play.

Kevin Ragemy is out here too!! But he won't be able to play until the new year.....even still...!!!!

Caro is out and about, but with all this hectic move in/university crap I haven't gotten a chance to call.

Jeff Lopes? Apparently he's back in - I don't know anything about it, but I'm still excited!!

SOOOO - thats the Vancouver blog!!

NOTE: If anyone comes to Vancouver for the weekend or something, I can give them crash space in my rez, in addition to access to the rez dining room + access to awesome shred locations.

Note2: If you eat a lot, your going to have to pay me back for what you eat :P

Note3: You'll also have to live with 18-20 year olds for the weekend...so...thats a trade-off, BUT free crash space and potentially some free food :)

Oh Alex! You are missed already!

I'm very impressed with 50 contacts! Keep it up!

And thanks for starting this blog so we can still creep-- I mean keep-- up to date with your game from a distance. :P

Thats why its been so hot recently :P

So, another solo session today after Ancient Greek class. Again, alone in front of my residence. It was pretty good, but I don't know how long it was...I have no watch or phone yet...lol...anyway, highlights:

- 20 alternating clippers
- 10 contacts of butter > butter
- Bubba/Illusion/Same Side Illusion/Paradox Illusion All BSOS
- Near/Far legover/pickup BS Twice OS
- Butter > Pdx Illusion contacts

Tried to school some flip whirls but it was really hard to overcome my weird tendency, so my next session will be dedicated to dealing with that.

Anyway, other than that it was a good session...I want to get more people to play, but with my amazing schedule I have 3 weekly shred sessions planned + 1 each weekend (ideally)...

Until next time!!

Yet another session alone. I'm schooling lots of basics...like always...haha, highlights:

Symp mirage > ss symp mirage > symp mirage > ss symp mirage
5 on the clipper drill
14 butterfly > butterfly contacts

I really want to learn something new, but its really hard when there is no body to give tips and stuff - I find it especially hard to stay on course when there is no one to provide advice and encouragement :( So, I'm waiting for stuff to get organized with Caro and Jeff, but its been hard for me as I'm still easing into my schedule..buut, I'm staying on the course playing 3 times a week atleast :P everyday after greek class you can find me in front of my residence (shuswap) shreddin' it up :)

First session of other people!

Woo - Kevin and Caro!

That was good, Kevin gave me some good tips for stuff like symp mirage, illusions and toe ducking. He also hates osis. Ummm, Caro played well, (although she says she played like poop) and I played pretty well. Ummm, I hit midstring legbeater which hasn't for a long time, that felt goodly.

Its been a while since I posted here - but footbag is going well in Vancouver. I played with Caro yesterday - that was fun. I hit some ok things - as did she. I can't remember the exact things.

Before that, I had played with Kevin Ragemy (who has wicked toe tricks) and Caro (who likes to osis a lot - and make fun of Kevin and I who can't really osis a lot)

=D I can hit a lot of strings with Illusions - thats a bonus.

Word. So its been a while, but I'm still here and playing.

Just finished most of my midterms so, I've been busy.

Anyway, had a session yesterday (on my own) and I hit some pretty good things:

-45 tiltless
-Paradox flail
-ducking toe
-pixie

Yarr - so I think thats where my game is progressing - towards toe. Inspired by Mike Faille from Toronto (who hits tons of toe ducking moves) and Kevin Ragemy and from my lack of osis and whirl (after a year of trying... -.-; )

I found another player - but I dunno if he's actually going to play. He's been out for a while, but played in Phillie. He has lavers and a crank that rivals Matt Cross...seriosly, it was flat as shiiiiit. Made me jealous -.-;

Solo session, once again...

Nothing new really...working on flip pixies/symposium stuff/toe ducking.

I'm getting better but its hard without someone there to offer tips at all my sessions :(

I'm lonely...if only Caro lived at UBC ...or Kevin wasn't injured...or other people played :( boo...

Ok, no more complaining...
I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause

 Thats Pokemon, not footbag... *sighs* I'll settle for guiltless...or "able to whirl and osis in addition to a few other cool looking tricks, like a toe stall"

Don't worry, though I am not playing, I am still very very involved in footbag.

I've finally found my own place to live, but the move-in date is not until the 15th of November. It's only two blocks from my current temporary living quarters, so if I absolutely have to, I can CARRY my stuff to my new home. :)

I can't wait to move.

Also, here's some fun tricks to think about:

- Symple drifter swirl
- Symp grifter spinning inside (motor-style)
- Bent refraction reverse eclipse?

lol, seriously.
- Kevin R.

So - here's a little story for y'all.

On Tuesday, I got back two tests and I wasn't happy with my mark :( I wanted to shred my ass off and shred out my anger and frustration...well, my residence ran out of hot water and I wasn't going to shred if I couldn't have a hot shower after...

So, I decided to shred the next day as a study break...and it was awesome!! I grabbed a friend's Ipod Shuffle and hit the fitness room. Some siick highlights:

 I usually have a few drills that I complete at the beginning of each session, sometimes they take a few tries and tire me out, today I hit them all first try, so that just felt good.
 Flail BSOS!! Like 3 times!! It was awesome!! It wasn't flail > run >flail...more like flail > toe > toe > toe > flail. But, the point is, I can pretty much flail on command both sides!
 PS Mirage BSOS! Kinda huge - my flip symp mirage isn't too strong, so naturally, PS Mirage on the flip is really hard...but today it just clicked and I hit it no problem.
 Eggbeater BS!! WHAT?! Yeah!! I tried a bunch of times and hit it once on each side. Even if it was fluky, it still a siick trick and I feel like I'll be able to hit it on command really soon..maybe even mid string...
 Ducking Toe runs. Ducking mirage. I don't know if the ducks are clean or if I'm doing 'em right, but they feel pretty good, so that is good.

Other than that - not much else. Friday is a big day for school, so who knows, maybe I'll post another epic session on Saturday if Friday is anything like Tuesday (I hope not).

:) :) :) :) I miss Toronto...
