Eh,

I am back in Canada-land, and have a bunch of, no-emotion running through my veins. Without footbag, I just, for whatever reason don't really have anything to look forward to in the day. I got back from worlds, and from waaay too many double switches, landing on my ankle really poorly from a handstand (fuck ben, ) and just over-footbag in general I figure it is probably the best solution to take as much time off, until my legs are normal, as possible to start playing again. It all started after the Germany shred, when that night I woke up to having one of THE biggest charlie-horses in my life. For the week after, I couldn't walk without the back of my thigh hurting like crazy, and then I had to play footbag in Vienna, two countries later, and it prolonged the fucked-up-ness. I had to practise my routine, but, I couldn't play, and it just was a really vicious cycle. So, knowing that I couldn't clipper, I had an unnecessarily long atomic-only session, and then I couldn't move my hips without pain because the muscles that I over-used were too tired. Great. So I got to worlds, and was really half-assing everything, until I had a shred with Matthieu, where we were really just fooling around.

At that session, I hit maybe like, 2 things that pushed me? Some harder five add links, but as I said, I really was just "PLAY"ing footbag, not doing anything impressive. I was also saving myself for routines, and that is the worst feeling ever. At worlds, all I want to do is shred, and saving is just like, footbag-blue-balls. Big tease. Anyway, so before the routine my legs were done, because Kevin taught me how to do double switches completely downtime (and Kevin, yesterday I got atomic opp double switch bs, challenge done). Well, that COMPLETELY fucking was the WORST decision ever, as my legs are still not recovered from it. The muscles in your thigh that control crank, are just weak and tired. So yeah, I sucked it up and did my routine, and then for the rest of worlds, thankfully, since there was no place to even try to play footbag comfortably, I didn't look like a wimp who didn't play footbag.

Oh, on the note of challenges, for Anssi, I got pdx whirling swirl bsos yesterday.

Oh, on the note of playing yesterday, WORST idea ever. I had been saving myself since after Prague, and then yesterday, wednesday, arrived home monday, I felt decent and had two small sessions. Well, today my ankle feels just nice and tender, and in the middle of that foot it feels like there is a hinge that isn't supposed to be there. My muscles are fine however, but, bone/joint pain is the worst, because it is so dangerous. I have to do a footbag - demo tomorrow at 2:00, and thankfully I can get away with just doing tiltless to impress the "under 14 year old" camp that I was invited to. However, as the first paragraph said, knowing that I physically can NOT improve my game after WORLDS is the biggest frustration. I start university in a week, and I feel kind of guilty that I am not even remotely excited about that, because all I can think about is what I could and should be doing with footbag.

That being said, I had a pretty good day for footbag yesterday, despite the fact that I am retarted and should never had played. How long will it take until this DAMN ANKLE recovers from ONE handstand I didn't land properly on? Note to self, don't give into Ben Roscoe's peer pressure of doing things that sound really fun, and completely harmless.

As for a worlds write-up, aside from Anssi, Kevin, Montreal-ers, Ben, Justin, Mikko and Eric Chang I couldn't care less to remember anything about it. Of course the rest of the community was great, but two years from now, worlds '08 will really only be recalled in my brain happily are the above mentioned. The entire event pretty much was a waste of thousands of dollars, which, I can't stand to forgive. Next year I am going to make it to the US open, because I can guaranteed enjoy the event, which is always a success...Never again will I go to Eastern Europe, and it would take some serious convincing to bother me to spend my time, effort and money to make it to Worlds in Europe, unless it was in Finland. Actually, since I can drive to NYJ this year which will cost, very little in comparison to a flight last year, and US open will be cheap-er, I might just take a private trip to Finland and go to one of their bigger tournaments sometime throughout the year, depending of course on University and other, financial burdens.

So yeah, Anssi Sundberg. Without a doubt, if I were to model myself after any other footbag player, it would be Anssi. Every aspect of his style I admire, his trick selection is, with the exception of a bit of Johnny and Jorden, untouched, and his consistent both sided-ness and trick execution makes me quinge. Who else can tuck their shirt in and play footbag without looking odd? His advice always makes clear sense, and his ability to be blunt or, frank about something clears the way for productivity. Apparel choice? Top-notch. Best backpack on the face of the planet, and just a styley individual overall. I can't pick apart his personality 100% however, because of the English-Finnish gap that I can tell doesn't let him express things just the way he wants it. I should learn Finnish, it would so be worth it. Some of the shit that came out of his mouth, thank god I have it all on video. "For example a cultural fact is that--", hehe. There's a reason he is at the top of this list of people. I can ALMOST say his name right, if I try. Anssi let me film him hitting random tricks and combo's just so I could study for later, and damn well, at yesterday's session I reffered to it twice. It helped me!

Kevin Regamy. It all started with him just before worlds, when he sent me a message that just broke the ice. It was a very casual one, drunk maybe? and it just set the idea that at Worlds we could talk and it wouldn't be awkward like we just met. When I got there, Kevin was really one of the guys that I could comfortably sit with, or say hello to, or anything, as I arrived and felt pretty alone. He introduced me to a handful of people, which also helped that situation out, and again I felt as if we had already established some sort of friendship, even though I had seen him a total of 20 minutes at worlds the previous year. He did go out of his way for me, and I can really appreciate that. He also helped me quite a bit with footbag concepts, and inspired my thought process that perhaps I should break free of the two dex up-down time toe moves that I limit myself to. Who wouldn't like to see a fearless combo with something like a massacre, or even chainsaw in it? As my mind does not belong in the Regimbald, or Moir family I am limited to stealing ideas from other footbaggers and attempting pathetically to make them my own, for my hopes in mastering every concept. Not only did single tricks become clear with Kevin, but I think learning new tricks and mastering them will become far more clear from now on. From now on, I am happy that I just will have another Canadian footbag friend, who I can legitimately consider a friend in the community.

Ben Roscoe. He really reminded me of Zac/Matt on this trip, as we really stuck together during the days where people didn't play footbag at a footbag world championship, and talked our fair share. Everytime I saw Ben, for the first time in the day it wasn't really a question of if I should go say hi and remain together, it was just like reaction like saying Good morning to your parents in the morning. Ben always seems to push me to do things that would likely be fun, even if it is playing footbag in a sandpit for 1 hour, or painfully missing a bsos-two person sole stall for 30 minutes infront of EVERYone in the stands. He is the person I wish I had as a friend in University, because of the many social things I would be exposed to that I will never alone take advantage of. Sucks that I can only really be with Ben for a few days out of the entire year.

I don't know the Communities impression of Justin Dale, but me for one, has a very good one. Last year at Worlds, completely self-lessly he came to me and helped with pdx whirls. I didn't even ask, but as he saw that I was struggling, he took the time out of his day to help some beginner for a solid 10 minutes, and I'm sure felt no inner-anger or boredom. At this tournament, I will always remember watching Vasek's 2 minute "performance" in the stands, and what he said. The last day of Worlds, I got to hang around him for quite a while, and I really only got a glimpse of how awesome it would be to live somewhere in the West Coast, to have regular 'jam' sessions with him. Even small interactions, like before routines when Ben and I were bullshitting with a footbag and he was in a hammock. Just the exchange of his words always seemed to leave me with a positive feeling, and I like that.

I felt closer to the Montrealers this trip than any other, and that is a severe opportunity that I am greatful for. Like, Matthieu is known by every footbagger I would imagine, and I actually hung out with him at Worlds. Ianek is so busy at worlds, doing all his organization and thinking, and he took the time to talk and help me. I mean, I stole breakfast from the hotel Slavia because of Matthieu, and had my first exposure to Power-thirst because of him. I didn't keep tabs on what he did at worlds, but I felt really special to be able to hang out in the montreal room for 2 hours and, not feel, like an outsider. While watching Net, Ianek and I came up with my next competitions "sick 3", and it probably took 30 minutes of toying around. This benefits him in NO way what-so-ever, and he just passionately decided to help me, and that too just left me feeling very accepted, which is the best feeling I ever encounter. Being a part of something,

Eric Chang was another Footbag player that I was happy to be around, not just for the free peanut butter/jelly sandwhich, but to always have to talk to and even play footbag with. I think I played in, what, 4 circles at ALL of worlds? 2 or 3 were with him? 2 distinctly were very fun, and I look forward to having another one with him. He is just such a fun guy to be around, and very generous. I guess in a way he is like Erik Chan. Like Kevin, I just felt as if Eric was an actual Friend of mine, instead of just a friendly individual who I happen to know.

Mikko is quite like Justin Dale at Worlds for me. Mikko was in Bots. I assume everyone knows that? Like, Mikko was in BOTS! That DVD means so much to me, and well, jesus, Mikko was in Bringout out the Shred. Does everyone remember the close up shot of his clima's as he was scooting around the floor, all in slow motion as vividly as I do? Fucking Super-star, like, seeing Penske for the first time. Even better, I got to Warm up for Circle with Mikko, and get my ass handed to me, by Mikko. Mikko also gave me sincere 'props' and 'respect' for my routine, and well, Mikko props are nice props. Can I even say his name right? Can I say Tukka's name right? Again, TUKKA was in fucking BOTS! If anyone owns alpine smear, it's Tu-kka. Screw Santa, Tukka is really the only reason I even look forward to Christmas Vacation, I get a christmas calendar! Jebus, this is exactly the reason I want to go to Finland. One session with Tukka, just again, fooling around with Matthieu and Tukka. Who gets to try stupid shit with those two? God, for those moments I really am glad I wasted all that money to get to Worlds. Having a pitch-dark request session with Ianek and Tukka, hitting drifter*5 when you can't see the bag, mobius, and more! BOTS! Agh, I am going to watch it. Break time.

Every moment I had with a Finnish person, either at an Afterparty, on a Tram, waiting around in the stands talking about playing footbag but not actually playing footbag, anything, just really struck me as dandy this tournament. Imagine if I met other people, Juho, Felix, anyone. MHmmm.

Yeah, so again, I have to sink into the "sit and wait" mode and wait for Mr.Ankle to stop being a bitch, even though I am Icing it, and wearing a brace anytime I do anything. I want to hit Mikko combo's, quite alot actually. Like, Johnny combo's, nukes all around, sexy crank, unique toe links that I have never thought to hit. Anssi style? Crazy style was '06, Anssi style should be like, Fibionacci years, so, 2001,2003,2005,2008,2013 and so on. Do you realize the potential for awesome-ness if all footbaggers did that? All nice whirls with your knee pointed downwards, and double switches galore. Erg,. Oh, on poetic notes, I got Matthieu, your challenge for spinning ducking->gyro diving*rpt a few times yesterday. I shall master it when I can play, for moses' sake.

First off: PROPS for making it to the semis. I'd really like to see your routine. Hearing all those comments it seems like prague wasn't really worth the money. Despite this fact, i was really happy to see you again. I'm sorry to hear you got hurt by shredding with us.

Again: PROPS for you achievements in footbag. you've gotten so good. amazing. and by that i do not only mean all the great tricks i saw you hit. i mean your style really evolved in a good way. seeing you teach alf some tricks it showed you really understand footbag. you're a good guy.
There are always some cheap pizzas here for you ;)

Second bag got alot better. It should be playable after just a little break in. I realized i did the stitch at the bleedholes wrong with the first one. Suede for one more left, but stitching is really boring.

Say hello to Mathieu from me, when you see him again. we met in frankfurt on his way to wroclav. i want his reapers. nice guy, too.
i also met Jeremy Mirken in frankfurt this day. its a shame he switched to net.

did you meet thommy, the soccer frestyle guy from mainz in prague? i just saw the red bull streetstyle-video from worlds where vasek, franck remy and thommy are in a soccer circle. cool stuff.
But I thinkvasek should stick to footbag. footbag style soccer looks a little strange to me. I dream about vasek and thommy kicking in mainz...

Jay you are such a cool kid

Once again, you are so good at footbag, and the best part is you don't realise how good you are. When you finally find out you will be a footbag monster.

You have every trick constant, and your basics are dialed completely. There is nothing I have seen you struggle to learn when people try to teach you new tricks.

Keep at it, and can't wait until we meet again.

hey Jay, read some of your posts :) Was very cool to meet you. You have a future in footbag, you learned all this new stuff so fast. Just remember to spend enough time on learning each concept and don't rush into new tricks too fast. You're dropless routine was bomb. I've never gone dropless so ---> big props :)

and ye btw it is Tuukka, not Tukka. Hopefully some day everyone will learn this :p

-That was really touching. Glad that I affected you in such a positive way. I did enjoy our "the sessions" and when you and Kevin realized its hard to the the last dex of massacre :). Also it was a pleasure to kick with you, a very clean style and I enjoy watching you.

Did you ever get a chance to talk to Ales? I know I kept trying to introduce you to him.

Glad you got to meet Tukka (joking) Tuukka he's such a cool guy, and really nice. We had our "epic" shred session with Ianek, and Ners. I am glad you were able to hit those five drifters to, or else you would still be stuck in that Slavia Stadium still trying to hit them :). Did you ever end up doing what Tuukka did when he hit like a ten beastly combo, and Ianek hit like octaround the world? Basically it was dark so we started to have fun by grabbing the bag after the set and air shredding in hopes someone would freak out. I know I did Super Nemesis swirl :)

Justin Dale is a really cool guy too, it sucks he has knee problems really he deserves better. But he's a very very nice guy in my book, and I plan on maybe trying to do a Justin Dale Special :)

Dude keep in contact and I hope we kick again in the future.

Also I am glad I didn't try handstands :-p

I might note that last years Worlds yielded kind of a weird first impression of Jay for me. He was just so damn enthusiastic, almost unnaturally...but turns out I was a bit mistaken, he's not a weirdo at all! Okay, so maybe he's a LITTLE weird, and sometimes he's way over the top, :D but footbag is just THAT GREAT for him! I'm definitely glad we spent some more time chilling this time around.

I think one of the bigger "Jay highlights" for me was watching him in circle competition with Mikko Lepistö. You could see how stoked he was to even BE in the circle with this guy, and nevermind when Mikko had the bag, hitting big stuff...you could just watch Jay and tell that it was taking his every OUNCE of self-control to prevent his yelling out, "OH GOD SO CLEAN". Sorry if that's embarrassing at all Jay, but it was pretty hilarious to witness. :)

Just to clarify, despite Mikko's presence, Jay definitely represented in circle. FROBS.

As I awake, it is a sunny Saturday morning in Hamilton Ontario, where I live just where I think I need to be. 10 minute walk from my University, 10 minute drive from Jorden depending on lights, and 20 minutes from Johnny, for footbag, and 2 steps from the highway if I need to go see Tom, or Toronto for whatever reason. 17 previous years of my life spent living in a town with 600 or less people (In Germany too,) and now I get to feel like Zeb Jackson, in the big city with badass people to shred with. 505000 people in Hamilton, and 504995 potential freaks to knife me,. Last night as I took my first walk across the night street, a girl in a car screamed like she was being gutted out the window, which basically was the closest time I'd felt I needed to relax my bladder muscles and twitch all over. Good thing I heard the laughs afterwards....

My ankle is still fucked. Can't crank without the bones feeling like they shouldn't be cranking, and if I do interesting toe tricks, then just the whipping motion destroys it. I can't even do pixie legovers, because the magic hop on the one side is fucked. I'm never learning handstands again. No ripsteins, and I am afraid to improve toe spinning or something, because I have to be delicate on my one side, and if I wasn't, grunt.

Maybe I'll start stitching again.

I feel so happy at the moment regardless, reading Byrin's blog and hearing more of Kevin's time in Finland, that is my favourite content on modified. Just hearing the events of others, and what people have successfully accomplished or realized. I believe that this will always be available on modified, and for that I am happy.

*rotates ankle*, YEAH, no cracking noises! It isss getting better. OH BOIOOOAYHA! I HAVE UNDERGROUND PARIKKKKIIng.
SEriously,'

NONE of you have any idea how badass this place is. I get to go with my automobile, enter the driveway down, show my styley little card, and the garage opens, subtley and noise free. I slowly caress the break peddle as the blue civic with barely any gas left creeps downward in fear. I take a quick left, and search for the almighty "B39" on the wall, and behold, I HAVE A FREE SPOT TO PARK IN...UNDER-FUCKING-GROUND! There are even elevators from the thing to anywhere else in the building, no stair crawling for me! Man, I have to go eat some Cap'n Crunch, this is just too good. Ankle performing under circles, I can sleep in complete agony as I know my car is under 9 stories of cement, and I can walk over to my mini fridge, and eat cap'n crunch while watching old Jorden video's wondering why the heck I am not that good yet.

Dude, I am jealous of your close proximity to some great pillars of footbag-dom, but must say I am wholly un-jealous of your shitty bust ankle. I hope it is healed really soon.
Despite that, some of the crazy toe junk you've been hitting is off the chain! Atomic dblswitch bs!?! Madness.

I need to move some pages so that it is more ''Seamless'', but, for a first attempt I don't think it's bad. Next time I do one of these, I'll make it two times as big, and maybe I'll do some colour, or increase the quality. I did it at, roughly, 10% quality this time? It is hard to make out from this far away picture, but there are just black dots, in perfect grid shape, all over the page.

Perhaps I'll go to a tournament and take a big panoramic picture of cool people in a shred circle, and then put it over 2 or 3 walls...Hell, making the third wall my ceiling would even be really cool.

I am really sore today, because when Jorden was about 1/2 done his session, I was COMPLETELY done mine. And then when he was 3/4 finished his session, I was really done in, and out of some sympathy I think he was done. I'll kick for a bit today, working on ss whirls, yes the basic three add trick of death, trying out what he started correcting yesterday. Horizontal bitches! I have oh-so much to work on, for instance, every single trick that I do now can be improved by milestones. Luckily, there are many tricks that I don't have bad form on, because I haven't learned them yet.

Seriously, does everyone know here how badass highplains drifter is? I think that instead of, drifters, I'll just do the double version and call it a day. Why not? They are just, SO good! Just crank and water your clipper foot, get all antsy in anticipation for the levitation ahead, and burst with weightless wonder into the sky and watch as the bag meanders through the highplains and onto your opp clipper. Man, I'm going to hire someone with cool style to hit highplains->blingblang*rpt, and wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Wait a minute, highplains->whirling ss reverse whirling swirl. Oh yeah, wouldn't that be dandy.

Yesterday I got some reapers bsos first try, and that was all I nearly felt good about. Oh, I got both matadors and a sumo midstring, right after I decided to correct my posture. I imagine that, well, if I tried that more than once with good posture, I'd enjoy nuclear a little too much. Rubberman II here I come. Since when I correct my whirls and hit Whirl War II, and then I'll have to call Cleaver, [why? I'm not sure. He just owns that drill] I might as well call Johnny for rubberman II. Is there any other big drill I should hit and make a phone call? Perhaps I'll ask Penske what his "drill" is, and then, wait, Whirlwind->ps whirl*rpt, there is Penske.

Oh, I had my session in Gunits and then second Quantums yesterday, and I didn't have any ajustment problems. Booyah. Oh right, I should tell the world about a mod I did, that Ianek inspired in me.

Basically, you take a dremel (search google, it could be any tool...) and just shave off the back of your gunits. It makes them just, "feel" less bulky, and I'm sure there is SOME small weight savings. With that as well, you have slightly more clearance, which out of every 100th swirl might just make all the difference. Jorden gave me the idea that drinking V8's would be somewhat of a substitute for not having easy access to eating salads and homecooked vegatables all the time, and I stomached my first one today. I plan on asking Mr.Aaron Orton soon about what I should do to work out, as my building has free facilities. MAN, I am SO READY to gain a bit of muscle and have enough strength to just muscle through twisty moves. Surging, Splicing, Spinning, Symp torques, ooh lala.

Hey Modified,

I finally had a session today where I didn't have to stop doing concepts because of my ankle, it was pain-free the entire session! Like, the only time I noticed that it was shifty was on a toe flick, once, [to be fair, it was to flick->symp mirage->toe flick, so it was a faster paced toe flick, one might say]. I simply didn't do any hard impact tricks on that side, so, no double downs.

I hit, roughly, 10 new drills? I also solidified about 5 previous ones that had bothered my brain as I was injured. My new Gunits are far clunkier and not-broken in as my mesh ones, and I need to clean up some of my dexes for it. Not for, "the"-ness, more or less just because I swing a little harder due to the weight and junk-in-the-heel. I would be using my quantums, but the soles are already starting to un-glue from the fabric, after, 4 injured barely toe sessions? Yeah, needless to say the Quantum is a fantastic shoe with terrible quality in manufacturing. Nothing against planetfootbag, I understand their limitations, but these will likely be the last two I will ever purchase. Which is really a pity, as they are the perfect footbag shoe, super light, super fun clipper, BEST Toe ever, and, the walls were so perfect, OH SO PERFECT. Like, the walls of the Quantum deserve their own hot sauce or something.

Back to footbag, I think in order to make more time towards progression and University, I'll stop modified lurking for hours on end. This also means that, for the time being, I'll likely halt the progression in this blog, except for weekends or times when I am actually done my work. Engineering throws SOOO much work at you, but I really love the mathematics, it is just the Chemistry which is troubling. Grunt, not having grade 11 chemistry because of Germany, not having Grade 12 Chemistry (proper) because my teacher burnt her eye and we were given random supply teachers for the year. So, I am LEARNING all of the entire highschool review this week. God, it is going to be such a hard class. Good thing Chemistry is a science, and thus, should make sense once you learn the rules and objectives.

So yeah, for the months ahead I plan on getting better at footbag. I really regret going to worlds and worrying so much about my routine, that I didn't progress as fast as I would have liked. Having today be the first good solo session since July, and have been playing almost every day until injury, just seems like such a waste of time. I think I would honestly enjoy worlds more if I had of actually played footbag, instead of warmed up and not taken any risks, so that I could actually perform.

I'm going to see if I can make my life modified-free with the exception of weekends from now on. This also includes MSN, AIM (sorry zac and Eric) and random time wasted looking for webcomics and whatnot. Cyanide and Happiness never fails however. I think that when I come back and look at the week's threads I will not have missed much, however.

How am I going to get my Anssi fill without Modified? Why do people have to be so badass,

I've been thinking for the last few weeks that the sole reason that humans act is to further what they find comforting. The reason that someone will wake up and make their bed, and how even subtle non-verbal communication between you and the rest of the world is linked to a subconcious cause to feel comfort. I find that comfort does not have to be equal to an emotion such as happiness, or love, but that feeling comfort simply requires that you are doing something that you know you want to do.

Today I have switched the switch to turn off my alarm clock 20 minutes in advance, prepared breakfast with complete satisfaction and emptied my near-full garbage can. I separated whites from darks and pillow cases for pillows, and arranged them on my floor. Grabbing my .69 cent juice and my books, I arrived to my lecture in a bright red shirt that I would have never had the confidence to wear if it had not shown a footbag logo across my chest. I bought fresh fruit and finished my programming lab with complete awareness that I was prepared and willing to get 100%. I left my lab 30 minutes early and bought lunch, brought it to a chemistry lecture that wasn't even mine and waited for my next class, Chemistry 1A03. Finally four classes later, I ended my non-stop school day that may have been lunch free, stepping out of linguistics wishing I had of had the confidence to converse with the person who sat beside me, the only attractive girl who has ever chosen to sit right next to me in a row of completely empty seats. Afterwards I rushed home on a friday afternoon to do laundry and calculus homework for next week's test.

Now it is 9:31, I'm going to lace up my quantums and fucking fly.

Dude, about the V8 thing, you should try V8 Fusion. It's a serving of both vegetables and fruit and it tastes amazing.

Also, you should talk to the girl. Like what Matt said, girls usually don't just sit places randomly.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.
