Zach Jahner Special

Post by Eric Chang »

Hello you modiphiles, I promised Zach Jahner his very own special. So here it is, the Zach Jahner Special.

I would like to thank of course Zach Jahner for him risking me make a special. The eight some people who preview my videos before release on my rought edit link. CICFlurry aka Tom, for helping film during the May session near Zach's house giving me different angles for this.

Quick notes:

-Edited with Windows Movie Maker version 6.0 (should be my last video done with Windows Move Maker)

-The Special was filmed with two cameras, during May before the Montreal Spring Jam III I was using a Panasonic DVX-100. At the US Open Championships 2008, I was using a Sony HDR-HC1. So there will be a slight difference from shot to shot in terms of quality.

-Turns out I forgot to set the Sony camera to a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, but managed to not compromise the ratios (thats to divx).

-You will need to have at least installed divx on your computer :) and just in case http://www.divx.com/

So enjoy here is the link.

Also, please leave a comment if you've downloaded. It can be anything front what you didn't like, to what you like, how awesome Zach is, etc, etc. Or how awesome I am and that you want to fly me out so I can do a special for you :)

Great vid, I don't know if I've ever seen a video with Zach. Cameraman was a little shaky during some parts, namely the shred circle with you and matt. Other than that, I loved every minute of it. It's nice to get such a crisp clear image and so many cool locations and angles in a footbag vid. Shred was great too.

-Well its going to happen at times, but really this stuff is a lot more steady than my SoCali Jam 08 that I edited. Plus I'm not going to complain since I never asked Tom to help out. But out of the goodness and how awesome of a guy he is, he provided me with other angles. Also every now and then I'd shake it up, its hard to do if you want something other than a tripod shot. That and I don't have the money for a full steady cam suit thing. But I am glad you brought it up and I have been trying to fix that recently :)

-Matt? There was a Matt? Who is this Matt you speak of :)

-Thanks a bunch, I was really stressing out about the quality. Because of the whole .wmv formats they're really compressed like crap. So I tried to use divx to help out. But now I have Adobe Premiere Pro, so no more crappy compressions.

Come on feedback people, anything I'm dying over here :)

Hah, oh I think that was Tom then. Some long-haired hippie looking footbagger. Yeah I don't think Tom was the cameraman during those sequences in that brick area you guys were in.

-Yes it was Tom, and actually it was him filming, and then there was the use of a tripod :). But like I said, if someone offers to film I have no complaints :-p

hey! so, i really like zach's style, and he is sort of a significant player to me, he was in my first circle ever at worlds 07. i was so amazed by his game. still, his style is really smooth, and i love to watch him play. thanks for being so cool zach.

also, great job eric, i really liked all the different angles and perspectives. some slow mo/ bag tracking would be nice, but thats just my personal prefernece. also, what was the point of the shot of your feet walking down the stairs? it just seemed random to me haha.

anyways, cool video; i really enjoyed it. hope to see you guys soon at a tourney.

-Slow-mo really isn't an options with Windows Movie Maker :) its does this weird cut thing on me. Once I get this adobe thing down, I'll try and throw that in. (I agree that they're really fun to have and watch).

-The feet walking down the stairs was a lazy transitions :-p I didn't know what else to throw in there.

-Next time it'll be better, I plan on doing a second Zach Jahner Special, better. Like I said originally we weren't planning on doing a special. Then Zach brought up how he'd like to have footage of himself out there, and I took the chance.

-Really glad you enjoyed this Cale, and thank you for your comments!

I really liked this video as well.
Zach is really good.

I think some of the shots in here wasn't necessary.
For example the shot of some feet walking down stairs.
Random shots are cool but they have to make sense and give something to the video.

Thanks for the video.

P.S.

-Thank you very very much for your input (been trying to get some:-p). Watching it over and over I think I was most unhappy with the weird feet walking down the stairs transition. Maybe if I spent a little more time I think it could have worked a lot better.

-I plan on doing so, but here are my options. I've told many people that after seeing the quality of "The Compromise" I declined to release a nearly finish shred video combing the extra (good footage) of the SoCaliJam 08 and Chaos Green Cup 08. But due to Windows Movie Maker's making me convert in a .wmv format. I can not attain the quality of "The Compromise" unless I make the file size 500mb+. I currently am working with Adobe Premiere but its a slower process. (By the way the camera I am using is equal to the quality of "The Compromise".

If people don't care about the quality of the video that much, (basically Zach's is as good as I am going to get it) I can crank out all four to five of my videos before the end of October. But I guess I am the harshest critic :).

Thanks a lot for the input again!
