well then perhaps we should change the way people refer to their rankings.

That was the joke. I can't do that...all I can do is provide a suggestion to equalize the events and make the placing in them count for a total score.

You guys don't seem to get what I mean by this...

It wouldn't be required for people to compete in every event. Someone could choose to only specialize in routines and take the trophy in it. They deserve it. but someone who takes like 7th in routines but 2nds and 1sts in the rest of the events still deserves to be in high standing next to the person who took 1st in the one event they specialize in.

I think an overall tournament winner is a good way to encourage people to compete in all events. Then perhaps the competition will actually be between everyone, not just the 8-10 year vets who only seriously compete in routines because it's the determining factor as to where they stand in the overall rankings.

Note: I love all of the 8-10 year vets, and this is nothing derogatory towards them. It seems they might agree...making many competitions tighter and harder to win...creating more motivation.

There are no "overall rankings" in footbag. Vasek is regarded as the best player from a purely subjective perspective - there is nothing official that makes him the best player. This is even more noticeable if you consider who is the second highest ranked footbagger in the world. You can't answer that question because there are no rankings. The only rankings that exist are specific ranks for specific results from specific events.

8-10 don't compete only in routines so that they can get some kind of overall ranking. They probably do it because it's the event they're most comfortable with or because they're old and don't want to spread themselves too thin, so compete in the most fun event. I don't know, I'm just speculating about their motives.

meh.

I'm trying not too...generalities are so much easier to make a point with though. ;)

Well, lots of feedback...

Maybe someone will have to experiment with the idea and see how people like it.

This thread is just making me realize how unofficial our sport is. We should have an overall world freestyle ranking. We should put a system in place just like the net players do. This would make it way easier to seed players at tournaments and the seedings would be justified for once. I can't tell you how many times i've seen the circles in circle comp were unfairly formed because the judges just didn't know what level the players in the comp were at. Only good could come from forming a world ranking system. I don't have the know how or time to do it myself but i will have no problem helping out.
