Matt Bailey - New Video - Advice would be appreciated

Post by kidzanshin »

This is my new video which I've called "watch me fly"

Just filmed a few sessions and pulled out some highlights

As I dont have anyone to play with near me it can be difficult to improve my game without any first hand advice so this is kind of the only way at the moment.

If you have any comments on my form, trick variation, style or could recommend any basic components that are missing from my game, please let me know so I can get better!!! (note I am starting to learn swirl, drifter, torque and symposium components)

(sorry dont know how to embed the video)

Thanks for watching :D

click it once, paste your link, and click it again directly afterwards.

you can also paste the link, highlight the whole thing, and press the button once.

I'll leave criticism to people who know what they're talking about , but I liked it :D This is a little off-topic, But I'm wondering how's the footbagging scene in England. Are you the only freestyle player in your area, or the country? Do you have hack circles at all there?

While watching I sometimes felt like you could benefit from a little extra downward motion on your clipper with the delaying leg, especially on some of those oses. I think you often lose control of the bag when the clipper is too quick.

Overall I think you're in a really good place in your game. You've got solid long runs and you're not trying ridiculous stuff like a lot of new players have a propensity to do. You're definitely playing at the level you need to be, so keep it up.

I'd say, work on your illusions a little more. They seem to be more difficult for you than your other 2's.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

Wow, awesome video. Thanks for this, it was fun to wake up to. I think it's awesome that you're tiltless freestyling with a lot of three thrown in, and not to mention that you have pixie, fairy, and stepping both sides, that's impressive. To think you've gotten this far with no-one to play with.

The only criticism i have is what was said above me, i think you would benefit from making the clipper delay a little smoother, and not as jerky.

(EDIT) Loved the song.

Thanks Matt! dont know how I missed that!

Roy - the scene is pretty non existent. I have spoken to 2 or 3 players from england over PM on here but only still hear from 1 occasionally, and they have just started really

Ben - Yeah i struggled with illusions like a lot of people and didnt really learn them until later on which is a shame as they are my favourite 2 and i love stepping illusions! so yea ill work on them

And thanks for the pointers on my clipper! I'll definately take that on board!

Thanks guys!

Matt,

the toe and clipper delays that you're doing from handcatch are missing the bounce.

in other words... when you have the bag in your hand and you send it to clipper stall, your support leg stays stationary the whole time.

your stalls, and the moves you hit out of them, will be a TON more useful to you if you learn to land on your support leg and delay the footbag at the same time, even for the first trick of a string.

Man! Awesome stitcher and shredder! You're on your way to being the British Matt Cross/Johnny Suderman/David Clavens! take your pick...
I dunno how much you're already doing this, but don't make the same mistake I did. SCHOOL LOTS OF SPINNING. Now, like before you go guiltless (which will be soon enough, I agree with Manna). I totally regret not having many strong spinning components at this point in my game. They are so stylish.
Keep it up.

Man, I can definately relate to the not having any to shred with. The closest people to me are RCS which is awesome, but it's a 45 minute drive and a lot of gas. :/

Way to represent the Self Taught Crew. We are a rare breed.

Killer shred man, keep it up. All the criticism is the same meaning you're totally solid in your style and form. well done.

Thanks for all the really nice comments, im grateful that constuctive criticisms have been made alongside very kind words!

i did some drilling yesterday and freestyle today and have been trying to keep my back straight and good posture while bending the support knees and keeping arms more to my sides (ive noticed that one of my arms automatically pops up in a weird position everytime i clipper) and although when i went into auto mode i slipped back into some of the bad habits pointed out, i felt like my game made some instant progress so THANKS :D
