My suggestion for rhythm: Break things down into terms that are analogous to music. Play to music. Try to imagine what you would do in a minute in a half, music-backed routine.Najeh wrote:...im hitting all tiltless moves first try no problem, but my strings dont extend far beyond 5 unless i interrupt my flow and concentrate. im sure "that rhythm" will come to me eventually

Happy belated birthday, Matt.
I look forward to kicking with everyone tomorrow.
This weekend was great.
Highlights:
*Hall of Fame inductions. This had a huge impact on me. Maybe I will write about it later. I am so behind, now that I am back.
*Catching up with so many new and old friends and acquaintances. *Acquaintances that I would like to become closer friends with some day. *There are some really amazing people in the footbag community and I feel lucky to have had the chance to spend some more time getting to know more of them.
*Net. The cats from Montreal are rad. I had a sweet time shredding with some of them and I really enjoyed watching the net competitions.
*Watching DC do magic tricks for Policemen, and an entire bar (twice). And let me not forget shred like a madman in a remarkable, piecemeal, fluorescent green, group-collaborative outfit.
*Kicking a bunch with Bevier, who has unreal strings and performed really well in competitions.
*Kicking with Ryan Thomas. Great, and amazingly gifted guy.
*Hanging with John S. Drew K. and Waylon.
*Breakfast(s) with C-Fan and Age.
*Duel
*Chatting with Matt Cross. Talented individual.
*Riding back from the event with Josh and Crew, blasting Dillinger Escape Plan and getting my head reformatted via all kinds of sick music
*Kicking with Scott Davison. The man who invented twirl, himself.
*Two new bags.
*a circle with C-Fan, Peter Irish and Scott Bevier that involved listening to the entirity of "The Tuss" ( a Richard D James/Aphex Twin project) and many eclipse variations. Pete is great. His footbag game is so good!
*Final routines. All of them. Really! They were so good! I am so gald that I was able to there for these. There were so many routines that had me on pins and needles. It was particularly great to see Ken's second flawless routine, just weeks after seeing his first!
Alright. No real time for specific tricks, or to remember all of the other great moments. I am looking forward to drilling a few drills from Tom Mosher and Ken, as well as some ideas from DC and MC.

Kicked with Jake and Matt. It was a good session. Nice even session. Felt good to be back.
highlights:
paradox whirls, midstring. Low sets and good form.
atom b2b
legbeater bsos
torque bsos
rev. whirl X3 bsos
some long strings
consistent effort in keeping my head down for ducks
one well-executed and played-out-of paradox torque
a bunch of butterfly swirls
paradox dragonfly-eclipse-butterfly-string
dynos were very weak today, but as the new bag breaks in (I am using my new Wasabi bag atm) I am sure that will change.
Real fast addition to my previous post:
Dan Botkin really impressed me. Watching footage of him spreading good good ideas throughout central america in the 80's left an strong impression on me. Each time he opened his mouth at the reception I was more and more inspired by him. Seriously, and major.
Watching Vince Bradley's reception was also a pleasure, because
A: He rightfully deserved this award for all of what he has done for this sport
B: Because he made the MC (Pete) so happy to present the award that it was just contagious.
Martin Cote seems cool. All that I really know of him is how he presented himself (funny, down-to-earth and sensible guy) and how the crew from Montreal rejoiced in his award recipience.
James Roberts was one of the major highlights of this tournament for me. This man pushes one of the most amazing, old school styles. Timeless style, and a genuine, fun guy to round it off. When I first got to this tournament I was a little bit anxious because there was so few people there. Eating my steak sandwhich in the lobby and getting to know this cat immediatley put a smile on my face that still hasn't left.
Back to work.

Kicked on my lunch break. Like usual.
Now, let me clarify- When I kick on my lunch break I specifically kick.
For the last two weeks I have been practicing my toe spins (when you flick the bag really fast and it spins up vertically). I have gotten progressively better, and in the process it has helped me remember how to learn, and to be more confident with my left foot.
So, today I tried some atw on that foot, in response to my discovery outlined in my last post. I figured out that I have not been "sitting" into the stall with the knee of my support leg enough. The reason being- it hurts. The fun news is: I think that my trouble knee hurts because it is not as developed as my left knee. I am willing to invest the time into making my two knees similiar. I actually think that I may be able to undo the strain in my right knee in the process, as I will be more mindful of the appropriate form necessary to take impact with it.
Score.
On another note, today is the last day of my temp job. The good news is that my boss had very positive things to say about me and told me that he would contact me if there were any possible openings in the future. This was a nice gesture, as I really liked working here. In the meantime, I am having a great time learning more about javascript and AJAX. I am hoping that the time I have spent in the last year concentrating on Flash and HTML will reinforce this knowledge and that I will be able to find a job that utilizes my current interests or perhaps my comprehensive skills in audio in general, production, dj'ing, composition, interactive performance art and illustration.
Life is good. I look forward to studying for the next few days, and perhaps some relaxing shred as well. Relaxing being the operative word. Even if it takes concept-based drills to relax

yoooooo whatup dogs. i been pretty quiet on the scene but that dont mean i havent been kicking. not any real highlights to speak of except that my strings are definitley getting longer and been setting my tiltless from clippers instead of just toe stalls and im crushing that pixie legover strong side. word.

Kicked with Matt.
Highlights:
rev. whirl-torque, both sides
learned whirl on left side*
adjusted whirl on right side*
One string, whirls all over the place
Popping whirls some more
whirl-rev. whirl-swirl
three frozen swirls in a row
swirl-pm bsos
very close to freezing rev. swirl
paradox whirl both sides
some good feeling torques
ripwalk bsos, only setting with support leg
new move: Blender on left side*
EDIT: I need to put some thanks in here towards C-Fan for encouraging me to set my paradox whirls lower. Basically it led to me identifying the following:
When I was setting from clipper on my right side, I would have a hard time ripwalking. This is because my clipper on that side is farther out. So, I thought to myself, "if that clipper is farther out, then why is whirl cleaner on that side?" The answer was (I think) because I concentrate more on bringing my leg in than up and down. So I tried this on the bad side, and made certain to put some vigor into the dex as I pulled it over the bag, towards my body, keeping in mind that o-i dex snaps are something I still need to master. The only height to dex was generated by keeping my knee higher. And there it is. I hope my body can remember this! I found that setting really low but fast made it pop a bit. So after sitting down for a minute I went back and tried blender. There it was. I just have to learn to clear the dex deeper before turning into the osis and it's mine.
So, I was able to mystify myself by doing Jake-ish feeling (from my angle
at least) whirls. Figures. The changes were similar to suggestions he has made a million times. I suppose that some things just take time, persistence, and large quantities of reinforcement.
So, whirls are on the menu. And pixies are expected in the fall. I just need to learn how to wait for them more.

Highlights:
rev. whirl-whirl-rev. whirl-whirl X2 on weak whirl side, once on strong
ripwalk-whirl both sides
stepping reverse whirl (accident, and a new move for me, I think)
blender both sides, twice on the new one (left)
buttefly swirl, weakside
swirl- whirl-rev. whirl
spinning clipper- swirl
swirl bsos, multiple times
stickier rev. swirls
dropped on 6th ducking butterfly (and they are looking deeper)
toed paradox DLO a couple times. Feels close
Egg beater, downtime, second try
ripwalk b2b, maybe to an osis
whirling swirl, clean- to an osis
left whirl-paradox whirl
flux-swirl
stepping sets are getting so much better. Thanks to D.C. for clarifying the difference between stepping ducking and steppipng. Knowing that I do not need to push off of my support leg is making it easier to concentrate on the more fundamental elements of the trick. Again, now my stepping set is starting to look a bit more "Jake-ish" (
).
Background on why I felt so strong today. I spent the weekend studying online while cleaning up and working out my upperbody. I feel stronger and my mind is clearer. I intend to keep up this intensity.
Also, I found out that my girlfriend will be going to a craft show in D.C.at the same time that East Coast's is happening, so I am guaranteed to be there. This is very exciting to me.
EDIT:
I almost forgot. Apparently it does not take much to get me back into exercise mode, because after a day of rocking my "hand grip" I decided to knead my Mosher and MC bags from Cornell, 2007. It seems I had been too easy on them in the past, because before they would not give no matter what, and today they loosened up effortlessly. So I continued to knead the remainder of my bags and after a bit of this I had prepared 6 bags. The 7th is my new MC bag, which I did not touch yet. Just in case. I have a feeling that it is going to be epic.

Played hack today with a group of really nice kids in a dirty alley in downtown Pittsburgh. It was a fun hack circle in that they were all pretty good and we could keep the hack up at a fairly competent level. There was even a girl in the circle who had some sweet skillz. This one kid Justin was pretty awesome, he could control the hack really well, had a super smooth style...it was interesting to watch cause I could tell these folks and especially Justin had put alot of time into this game and they didn't have a remote idea about footbag.
I busted out a few basic tricks, inside stall wrap around to legover, and blew their minds. I played it off a bit and was like, "yeah I've been doing this for awhile. I've got some buddies who I play with up in Friendship Park. We go to tournaments and stuff sometimes, it's cool." They seemed to get a kick out of that.
I told them to search youtube for steel city freestyle and gave them my contact info. Maybe they'll watch it and want to join the crew, either way, awareness is good.

Kicked with Jake, and Caleb kept us company and represented a bit in jeans/new balances, which was a very nice surprise and may have saved what could have been a lethargic, overcast shred.
Highlights:
swirl-pm bsos, first try
new bop combo Jake suggested that works weak links: PM-ss bf-osis-rpt
4X ducking inf., confirmed clean by Jake
Whirl-torque, both sides
Ripwalk, b2b-osis
leggy atom b2b, first two tries
paradox dlo-string, first try (couldn't hit it again, lol)
worked on dives, and keeping them clean.
spinning clipper-swirl
spinning clipper-torque
paradox whirl, bsos
6 contacts of rev. whirl-whirl on left side. 2X 5 contacts on other side
footed blender, but did not try many times. Consciously putting it off but trying to stay fresh with it.
Spinning dyno feels close. Incentive to improve my spinning both sides.
Whirling swirl and rev. whirling swirl, same string. I think I hand caught or dropped after the rev. ws though.

Big day for me. Kicked with Matt.
First-off, for the record, Matt is really good at Footbag. I guess if you are interested in what he is hitting then you will just have to visit us in PGH, since I will no longer post about what other people hit, other than myself. I made this decision a long-while back, but now I am just verbalizing it- because it's hard not to talk about what this cat can do.
Highlights:
*ripwalk b2b, at least 4 times. This is a major breakthrough for me.
Basically I am learning how to correct my off-side stepping set, and to develop confidence in the second half (the delay) of it
*ripwalk-spinning+contact, both sides
*Whirl-ripwalk, multiple times on the left side, at least twice on the other (if memory serves)
*Whirl X6 on left side, X7 on the other
Alright. That's all I can think of atm. Mmm. Straub.

string with ducking clipper-whirl and ducking clipper dyno bsos
Ripwalk-ducking clipper, bsos, though the ducks were thin
paradon-torque bsos
bunch of swirls
string with multiple whirls, bsos
long relatively frozen bop strings

Yes! My name is finally... well... my name!
I spoke to two moderators today (PM'd Wolfpac, and replied to a PM from moxie, after posting about how much I would appreciate this) and now it's a done deall. Awesome.
Rieferman: I would personally love to kick with you when you are in town. Let's try to make it happen. I don't drive, but If jake is down that is a possibility. Another possibility would be to borrow my GF's car, but I seriously hate doing that without insurance.
Today I kicked with Matt. He started earlier and I met with him part of the way through the session.
My paradons are so inconsistant. I don't really school them very often any more because I am planning on switching over to a more downtime motion. Even still, it frustrates me that they are so random. I know if I warm them up before a session the are usually gold though. Perhaps I was just saving my legs for other things today.
Highlights:
*Located a bad form in my left PM. Turning to soon. After identifying it I made a reasonable attempt at PDOL, which I have never hit on that side. I plan on getting both of these down.
* Schooled Ducking out of osis'. Had a very nice drill/string afterward
* Ducking tricks were stronger today
* Swirls are looking good
* Making a lot of progress on controlling the delay on rev. swirl
* hit whirl-swirl on both sides
* Dynos are feeling stronger
* Torques are getting there
* Ripwalk is almost reliable on my left side.
* Hit a couple ripwalks on my weak, right side. Tried hitting it after stepping ss inf. (both muted and normal method). Ended up hitting this trick pretty well. Matt is right. This is a good trick to practice ripwalk out of. It certainly makes me set the ripwalk from clipper, rather than doing a silly little dance.
After Matt left I stayed and schooled my swirls. Ended up hitting rev. swirl from a clipper set, no plant, hopping motion. I like this a lot. Much more potential for control I think.
Also, I footed blender a whole bunch of times, visualing the second have of the trick as a swirl out of gyro set. I plan on spending time schooling this trick, so that the first portion starts out like a slightly higher whirl, so that I hop into it, then bring my leg passed the top of the bag, and blindly complete the move as though I am starting the second half of a swirl, while doing an osis. I think this form may work. I can't wait to invest some time into it. The way I was hitting it before was just super low so that bag had littl momentum, and then completing the trick extremely fast. There is no way that I would ever be able to hit paradox Blender this way. Hah- I have hit paradox blender before, when I was schooling paradox whirl at first. The method seems much more vertical, airy, and blind like I described in the beginning of this paragraph.
Alright. My GF is out of town, so it's time to build a website. Tonight. It's on.
EDIT: I want to add that I hit atom b2b today in a very controlled, leggy style. I tried to make the first delay as deliberate as possible and it worked. Felt good, like it could lead to a baby.
