Tripyfoot's kickin

Post by Tripyfoot13 »

This seems like a good way for me to get even more excited about my footbag, so why not.

Been out of the game for a while, but now I'm back and ready to start things off the right way. BACK TO BASICS. I have come to the conclusion that my freestyle would have survived more at school if I had had a better foundation and had not been so one sided. So I have developed a progressive workout to start from the scratch and work my way back up.

Here is the program I'm working with now.3 sections: Warmup-Drills, FREE SHRED/flip, and cooldown. Each section timed to unsure quality of workout. Mon-Wed-Fri in sets of 2 weeks.

Warmup-Drills
I start with a 5 min kick warm up, then I drill in 5 min sections 5 different moves or concepts. The time gets longer by 2 min every workout. After 2 weeks of drilling with an element or trick that element or trick moves up into the FREE SHRED MOVES/CONCEPTS. Also the drills for the next set of two weeks builds off the last, creating combo drills.

My Drills now are: Clipper>Clipper, Left Mirages, Right Mirages, Infinities, and PDX Mirage>oppositebutterfly>PDX Mirage>oppositebutterfly repeat

FREE SHRED-
This is where I spend a third of my workout shredding. I take my material from my drills, and I also throw in some tricks I already know. This section starts at 40 min, then 5 min added each time I workout. After I free shred I spend 10 min working on new tricks and flip-concpets.

CoolDown-
Cooldown is where I repeat my drills only in 3 min intervals instead of th interval for the workout, which could be different depending the day. After my 5 drills are done I take the last 3 min to just kick the bag.

I'm hoping this workout plan will help me really get back to basics, improve my string length, and it keeps my flipside working the whole time. My plan is to be able to modify this workout plan when I have the endurance to drill hard everyday.

So this is where I will keep up people up-to-date!
Tonights shred:
Was easier on my legs. Fridays workout was intense. Drilling for an hour and a half. Shredding for about the same. I cut Freeshred a little so I could get through it all. Todays workout was shorter but more involved, my last drill can kinda be a bitch. PDX mirage>opposite butterfly>repeat. Always the left toe>to right butterfly is difficult. Something awkward about it, many drops. This drill will be good for me later in the week thou I can tell.

FREE SHRED
Thank god I can still whirl. I busted out alot of whirls and toe whirls mid-string tonight. It feels good to hit them mid-sting, can't remember being able to do that. Pdx whirl was giving me trouble however, my set and body positioning are all off I feel, almost like Im putting to much of my back into the crossbody set. Any Ideas?
Flipwork: Left pixie set, Left whirl. Thinking about drills for next week .

Sweet Combos:

Smear>dimwalk>pdx whirl>DLO
Pixie tapping mirage>toe whirl>DLO>atomic drop
Dimwalk>PDX whirl>osis>spinning clipper> PDX DLO-ing drop

String of the Night:
Infinity>Infinity>Infinity>Whirl>Pdx Mirage>oppbutterfly>Pdx Mirage> DLO>toe whirl>drifter>PDX DLO-ing drop

My longest string ever I think

8O

Sorry for the length, my next post will not need to cover so much ground, hope most of you got through all that.

Matt? Mike? Anyone I don't know yet? Comments? Advise?

Hey my name's Ian and I think I got on the scene a little after you left it, about a year and a half ago now, but I'm from Rochester and have been playing with the RFA a bunch nowadays. Hopefully I'll get to play with you soon enough, I love the progress already from not kicking back up to some sweet moves. Talk to you soon!

yo dude, I've definitely wondered what you've been up to for the past few years.

that's great that some stuff is coming back to you. I like your comment about how toe whirl is easier for you now, even though you haven't played much. I really like that about footbag; you can take a long break and still come back and hit some fresh stuff.

glad to hear you're periodizing your training, andrew grant really feels that works for him. if you go to youtube and search matt cross andrew grant, I believe an interview of him will come up. You should check it out.

what bag are you using these days? I started stitching after you left the game. I've got some sweet ones these days. i'll give you the RFA "free shipping" discount if you want one! check 'em out in bags and equipment.

I should start playing again, or I'm going to lose all my gains from the summer. actually, I've probably already lost them, but no worries, it's all waiting for me. it's good to give your body a break.

Yeah, for a while I lost my footbag drive. Alfred can be a bitch sometimes, hardly a second to play. But in a way I'm glad, I feel like it gave me this opportunity to start from scratch again.

But yes, I have been in school this whole time. Almost done with my BFA at Alfred U, concentrating on Ceramic Art. Alfred is the best place for me to be working in this medium. It's a small town. After a while my day became nothing but working in the studio, classes, and then retiring to the bar for a drink or two before bed. However serious my years at school have been, Ive had alot of good times there too. Met my future wife bout 2 years ago there, made alot of great connections, and made alot of great work.

This semester I decided for a break from my stressful Alfred life. Last semester was cruel to me, the winter's greyness was enough to make you go crazy. And as soon as the sun came out, lol, one of my roommates and best friends did go crazy. Turns out he was bipolor, going through his first mental phycosis. His rents refused to take responsiblity for him, and it was very hard and painful for me to watch this happen to someone I called a good friend. Things got a little hairy, a couple 911 calls, alot of destructive acts, and a whole lot offensive-ness. In the end he turned into a whole different person. It took a tole on me after the semester was over. So to keep my own sanity I needed a break from it all.

But onto brighter stuff~
I watched that video of your interview with Andrew Grant. It really got me thinking of more ways to modify my program to make it better. Ive already seen alot of improvement on this program thus far. And I think it is due to the periodizing. So thats something I want to keep in my workouts indefinatly.

Recently I have been using two bags. A 4 panel sandman, and a carol bag. The carol bag is actually Ryan Thomas's i believe, my rents found it when they were moving. It is like 2 years old and still needs alot of breaking in. So I throw it into my workout usually as a warmup and cooldown, just so i can get it broken in already. Ryan if you see this, I'll break it in for ya, and if our paths ever cross again i'll let ya have it back, lol its ok I'll do all the work :)

Matt I am very interested in seeing one of your bags. I know when you do something you do it all right, so i bet they are dope. So yeah i want one! How much? Send me one ASAP, and you'll get a check in the mail. Any with blue and grey?

Let me know

I will set a paypal up right now, and maybe get your paypal info tonight, if you see this.

Blue and white sounds great. I can't wait to kick with it! what number is it?

Going down to the basement to start an off day workout. More free shred then on day workouts. Pondering smoke, flip dimwalk, and flip smear.

Long workout tonight, trying to find a good progression of drills to compliment the ones I do on normal workout days. What I have so far is: Ive broken it down to A days and B days. B day workouts start with the same drills as A days(five min each) Followed by a 20 min free shred. During the free shred I pay more attention to what moves are weaker then others(in terms of the catch, set,or plant) The next section of drills will focus on a buildup to that move. Example: if my butterflys are the weakest I will drill clippers for 5 min then infinities for 10 min, I repeat this twice. This will help me keep a general theme to my B workouts, which is based on my weakest move. No consecutive themes however. I had to make at least one rule.

Tonight:

My flip pixie set is getting stronger! Almost there. I have been having a problem flowing into my strong pixie sets from another move. Something between the catch and the new set. I think i have a foot out of place or not planted correctly. Any Ideas?

Alot of drilling tonight, not as much freeshred as I thought, but thats alright, needed to iron out my B workout plan anyways.

I'm really busten out my infinities now, 7 in a row: best tonight
I also had a small glimpse of a stepping set on my right, but abandoned it thinking it was not basic enough for my workout. And I know if I hit a ripwalk I would get really excited and maybe try to throw it into my drills. That might be counter productive.

Smp whirl off my foot.........almost, maybe tomorrow night.
I'm beat, but if i get through this week playing everyday then I'll change my workout plan accordingly(one week sets instead of two week sets)

See ya tomorrow, Im goin to go dream about my future Matt Cross bag and how it will give me magical abilities.

Wow my legs hurt this morning......but they should be better for tonights workout.

Seeing I am serious about getting back in the local community, Iam proclaiming myself the newest member of the Rochester/Syracuse Footbag Alliance, unless you guys have some sort of hazing you need to put my through first. Before I left the sport for a while I was considered RFA, but I like the alliance idea alot, and i don't live in rochester. Im proclaiming this more to show people what footbag community I belong to. Not for bragging rights. While I do take some pride, this pride was not made by me, it was made by the RFA and the Syracuse Alliance. I would like only the oppertunity to help make their brand of pride. To help footbag spread to more of cny,the country, and the world.

Kinda an odd morning topic i know. Feel free to comment or call me out on this.

When do you really belong to your area's footbag club?

you belong to the RFA as soon as you start passing to the right in a circle. I lived in pittsford for a year or so and that's how I really got going. So I've always had a warm spot for the RFA.

I'm just really glad it's only an hour 10 or 15 minutes drive back and forth from the 'cuse to the 'cha. And that Doug and Ian are as obsessed with this game as Ben and I are. It's just a shame Chris, Mike, and Paul are busy with work and have never really made it over here. I had tried this summer.

Today is a great day for all of humanity! I feel like, without even realizing it, Ive waited for this day all my life. Yes! spread the word! Phish announced it's first show since 2004. This news made my day. And tonight my workout music will be nothing but phish hoping that the good vibes will carry into it.

So lets see what happens. Third workout day in a row, and I can't wait! I can taste my opportunity for footbag glory now..........ummm tastes like chicken.

Tonight's workout was......interesting.

skooling infinities last night, for what seemed like hours, seemed like a good idea at the time..... But after my toe drills, I realized that my knees were not stable. If my knees could talk their words would not have been suitable for small children.......so I had absolutely no clipper, on either side............well shit.

So I repeated my toe drills, had my cooldown, and then called it a night. Damn my knees! I must have angered the shred gods or something.

Now to satisfy them again.

Please oh shred gods, except this offering of cold beer.

..........if you wish me to drink this offering for you, give me no sign.

Tomorrow-no drills, gonna give these legs of mine a day of rest. Perhaps some COD4, or play catch-up in the studio.

See ya on friday, thanks for reading

Hello all

My legs are feeling much better tonight then wed night. That day off really helped them recover, and it showed.

11 min drills tonight. I cut one of the drills tonight thou, kinda taken it easy. I decided that 11 min of pdx mirage > op butterfly, repeat, would just be counterproductive because I would have no energy left for my free shred and cooldown.

Everything looked and felt really good tonight, set alot of new personal best's for consecutives.
15 Infinities
10 Mirages (strong side)
7 Mirages (flipside)

Almost!!: flipside DLO......so close, its like right there.
Flipside smp mirage, and pdx DLO (strong side)

Things I hit that i hadn't hit in a long time:
Double ATW, Terrage, and Pandora

Tomorrow: I think I'm going to do some cardio tomorrow, jumping rope is helping my smp's and getting me in better shape. I need exercises that help my balance, but also don't involve a footbag. Any Ideas people? Preferably a weight training exercise that works balance.

Im beat

hey do you mind me asking what kinds of stuff you were busting before you took a bit of a break?

sounds like you're reactivating your shred powers. That's awesome. And, what more, you play COD4 instead of training and call gyro pickup "pandora" (I think I'm the only other person who seriously calls it that anymore)

I CHALLENGE THEE! pdx mirage > ss osis rpt
 some ducking/diving (more so that i know what you can do with it)
 far legover and pickup > ss clipper (at first. . then butterfly) rpt
 get as many gyro clippers as you can back to back
 get and list a record of ss mirages back to back
 add me as a friend on Xbox live. My gamer tag is CupOfEpic.

OMG sweeeet, a challenge! Your challenges will be my drills for next week.

Except the ducks and dives, used to do them alot but its kinda hard to do them theses days. My hair is the problem really, ha, Mike and Matt prolly won't even recognize me.

And yes I do play call of duty 4. I have it for mac, but need to update from Tiger to Leopard before i can instal it. I play alot at my friends house though, like almost every day, but his name is XX28grms2smokeXX on xbox live.

Before I took a break I was hitting 5 adds, but seldom had strings that were longer then 2 moves. I could pixie on my right side and atomic on my left. I would hit Matador, Sumo, PDX blender, PS whirl, and spinning PDX whirl. If you asked me to do 3 legovers back to back I couldn't do it, but ask me for gyro PDX mirage and I could do it. Kinda bad style, prolly why i took a break. lol

Today: 1 hour of jump rope, and a half hour of weighted jump rope (15 pounds)

Tomorrow: New drills, thanks to Darkshredder. And hopefully flip DLO and whirl

Bill-out

PS: does anyone know a good exercise for improving balance ?

Sweet matt! I can't wait to kick with it.

How do u post pictures on this thing? My hair is kinda in the same ballpark. Ive had dreadlocks for 3 and half years now, If it wasn't dreaded I think my hair would be down to my ass. I'll have to find a way to get a picture out.

find a web site to host them. if you go to photobucket for hosting, it automatically provides you with the "img" style code to post here for pics.

if you don't use photobucket, get the hosted image url and put these on either side.
