No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

No sweat Denton. I was fightin that one off real well, but work didn't help and I think that's what did it (workin in the mornings when it's ~5 degrees... yeah).
So I've been pretty sick this week since Tuesday I s'pose. I'm on the up and up now, though, and today had a good session outdoors. Did all my warm up/foundation stuff real well, new Plasticman record, new Toe Blur record, drilled Double Switches and Reapers. It felt really good. I was playing well, though unfortunately ran out of water too early on in the session to keep me goin longer, but whatever. It's probably a good thing that I didn't push my body too hard while I'm recuping from a cold.
This week we're going to be pushing hard to get as much work done as possible, since (according to the long term forecast) it's s'posed to really cool off.
. Hopefully I can find some time to kick if we don't work too late.

And what do you know? I found some time this evening
.
Kicked for probably just under two hours. Didn't feel as strong as yesterday but was still happy with my foundation stuffs. Drilled Double Switches, Reapers and quantum sets again, went over some toe stuff, dipped into stepping ducking (but unfortunately it was already getting dark by this time and it was hard to spot the bag
) then I broke my Pdx Whirl record to end the session. It is now 40
.
Good productive session, though my left shin started acting up a bit early on. Had a good stretch afterwards, then made a yummy protein shake for supper/snack, took an anti-inflammatory for my shin and I just finished my second cup of white tea and honey. Mmm.

Happy birthday, Byrin ♥
I don't think he recommended anything for my shins actually. My family doctor told me I could take ibuprofen multiple times a day as needed for my knees, and I told that to my orthopedic specialist and he said that's fine, but that either... it won't do anything for my shins or it will make them weaker somehow? I lean towards the latter, though I don't remember if he told me why... Maybe Andrew knows?

As far as shin splints...
1. Drink a lot of milk
2. Do a lot of calf raises
3. Do a lot of shin raises (stand on the back of your foot, and pull your toes up towards your shin.)
Shin splints are the result (at least from what I understand) from an imbalance of muscle strength between your calf and shin muscles. Thus, doing calf AND shin raises ensures that both sides get toned.
Good luck with it though, I hate shin splints...

Thanks for the birthday greetings
. Twenty-two years young
.
Thanks for the advice TJ
. Shin muscles aren't the only things I have to strengthen up - I have to get my hamstrings to be stronger as well. My damn quadriceps are too strong. I'm talking uber powerful. Like, 300 legendary spartans fighting for caketown powerful.
. Actually I talked to Andrew for a little bit about stretching and we got on the topic of knees. I always figured I had either jumper's knee or patella tendonitis, and he recommended that I strenghten up them flabby hammies! So that's what I'm going to be doing soonish once the work season is over.
Tonight I'm going to drink white tea and honey and hopefully come up with a footbag regimen for the winter season. No footbag, unfortunately, so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Played a bit longer this evening, for probably about 2hrs. I had no endurance today, most likely from not eating as much as my body needs and just from being tired from work. Still, I kept a good mindset through it all and it turned out pretty good. Went over foundation (not too strong this evening), quantum sets, Torques, furious, stepping ducking, and DSO and Reapers again.
Quantum sets are getting easier, which is awesome. Another set to diversify my pixie/atomic toe game
. It still feels really inefficient, but my timing is getting better and I'm starting to be able to perform them a bit higher and a bit deeper, so with time hopefully they will become as easy as atomic sets. I was able to hit Boulderbeater bs, which looks bad-ass imo, and next session I'm hoping to hit Toe Fog bs (hit it once on one side a long time ago). Hopefully I can get one more outdoor session on Saturday before the weather drops off

Another session where my mindset determined whether it be a bad sesh, or just a sesh.
Kicked for 2.5 hrs Saturday morning. Foundation was horrible, as was my endurance (hard to breathe when your damn nose plugs up
) and my shin was acting up again. Oh, and my legs were sore as well. Tight calves are not your friends when you have shin splints
, so I did a lot of stretching throughout which helped ease the pain.
All those considered, it wasn't all that bad. I mean, sure, I couldn't do what I should be able to do, but it was still productive. Footbag is a mental game just as much as it is physical, and you gotta have those shit sessions where you need to keep your cool in order to keep bustin. I think you're doing just as much good in training your focus and mindset on possible shitty sessions as you are training your muscle memory when you're kicking well.
That said, I hit two new tricks - Toe Fog (like I said I would
) and Furius Pickup (which I'm pretty sure is new). My weak quantum is lightyears behind my strong. It's not a big deal, I just hope it doesn't take 2 years to catch up like my weak pixie set did
. I worked a lot on furious sets, with a lot of progress on that. I changed how I conceptualize them, and was able to make my legs do as they should. Now I need to break the old habit and focus on completely relearning them all over again... I also went over Reapers (strongside is coming along pretty good, weakside not so fortunate), Torques, Smogs & Pigbeaters. Hit 5 contacts of Smog > Pixie ss DLO and Pigbeater > Pixie ss Egg starting on each side. I was happy with that
.

Before I always thought of furious as a Whirling ss Quantum motion, where most of the power for the set came from the clipper and not so much from your support leg. While in Winnipeg I picked Johnny's brain on how he thought of furious, and he breaks it down like a Symp Whirling Stepping. I watched some slo-mo videos of people doing furious and, with Johnny's tip, this is what I came up with:
I think most of the power for the set comes from the explosiveness from your support leg, hence the reason why you would think of the first dex as being started off as a Symp Whirl. Unlike a Whirling motion, though, you want to keep the heel of your dex'ing foot just on the outside of your body (initially) and very much underneath your hamstrings throughout the first dex.
The second dex was a bit more tricky as to how I should think of it: stepping or quantum? Stepping involved more knee movement, where-as quantum is much more of a leggy set. Horizontal knee movement vs leggy vertical movement. One sounds more efficient while the other offers more range of motion. Quantum sets (atleast in the way I've been practicing) doesn't involve as much knee placement whereas stepping set it's all about your knee driving up and out. So I picked the best from both worlds. It makes sense to drive your knee up and out - it opens up the window more for the bag to pass through (like stepping ducking in comparison to just regular stepping - bring your knee up a bit higher to open up the window to compensate for the speed in which the bag is raising at to reach your ducking height). Not only that, but you're also increasing the window in which your leg can pass through for the second dex, the leggy quantum.
S'pose you could freeze time after you just finished that first dex: your leg should be tucked up right underneath your hamstring (your heel probably pretty close to your butt sort of thing) with the bag floating just underneath your shin/calf. By turning your knee so that it comes up and towards the outside of your body, you've opened up a window below your knee and already brought your lower leg in such a position that as you go to plant that foot, your lower leg will perform the second dexterity as you do so.
So in other words, the concepts in which I've broken down furious into is a Symp Whirling as the first dex and a hybrid Stepping/Quantum for the second. Symp Whirling for the power, stepping for the knee positioning for the transition between the two (obviously different) dex'ing styles and quantum for the leggy second dex that follows through.

Hour and a 45min sesh tonight. Didn't focus so much on drilling this time, just wanted to get some things on camera and see how things are lookin. Ended up being pretty good - better than I expected, actually. Foundation was better this time around. From watching this, I can see that my weakside quantum could be deeper (will need to concentrate on dexing closer to the knee, maybe start more with the knee than with my foot) and that my right side furious needs more of that 'explosive' power off the set. Currently, it's still set in the old ways of doing things
. Also, I think I slurred that one Ripwalk after the second Ripped Warrior.
Oopsies!
This vid mainly consists of some drills, some consecutives, that sort of thing. I didn't think I had that much footage to work with, but I was pleasantly surprised. I also just recently d/l'ed the trial version of Power Director and wanted to check that out as well - very user friendly, I like it
