Shoe prototype pics coming soon

Every shoe suitable for footbag is BADLY out of style! Are we doomed to look like retro tennis dorks or old school gangsters forever??? The fact that the Quantum is based off the Laver makes it no exception. Combined with short shorts, headbands, etc. our sports' fashion a perfect recipe for LAME!
To move forward as a sport we NEED a shoe that reflects modern styles and trends!!![]()
i enjoy the style of lavers

Shoes are the last thing people look at when checking out fashion of a sport. Think skating (baggy tshirts, shorts or jeans), snowboarding, etc. Any team sports have obvious uniforms and you rarely even care about their shoes unless it's like basketball or something.
I guess what I'm getting at is there's nothing you can do to new footbag shoes to make the sport look more fashionable or up to date. Maybe throw some lightning bolts on the side, and KYLE would look cool, but that's about it. If we all started wearing baggy shirts with cool art or phrases and baggy cargo shorts we could have a slight chance. But even then it would still look like dorky riverdance to most. (In the US at least)
On a separate note, I love lavers with all of my heart. Yeah the support isn't great, it forces me to play on grass or indoors, or on mats. If these end up being awesome, I'll definitely get a pair to supplement my shoe collection. I can't see myself ever stopping wearing lavers, but maybe the new shoes would let me play on concrete again once in a while.

I agree with your sentiment, in that what the shoes like really doesn't matter mcuh to me either, but you got it wrong with skating. Skating is ALL about shoes.shredzilla wrote:Shoes are the last thing people look at when checking out fashion of a sport. Think skating (baggy tshirts, shorts or jeans),

You got it all wrong with footbag to. People definately look at the shoes in regards to footbag. Its all about the shoes. Everything we do is with our feet, so the shoes are the first thing to be seen. I personally dont care if what people think, footbag is awesome.

Well, I was more stating about casual observers of skating, but you're right about the 'posers' that like to be cool. Maybe that's what Jorden's getting at with that? In that case I'd agree with him.Danny Petrick wrote:I agree with your sentiment, in that what the shoes like really doesn't matter mcuh to me either, but you got it wrong with skating. Also, I could care less about what people think as well. You either blow their mind or you don't. Idk, I've just never had people look at me and go 'Wow, I wanna be like you!' when I'm shredding. They just kinda admire and move on.

i also like the simple, classic style of lavers. with a good low sock, a pair of not TOO high shorts, a cool shirt, and *good footbag style*, lavers can look great. look at flash gordon. They totally fit his aesthetic.
I can't believe you of all people would worry about this, jorden. you'd have to wear a tutu and carry a magic wand for your style to look lame, and even then there's a good chance that you would make it look awesome.

lavers, yeah, i think they look cool enough as is. and when i started wearing a pair just for walking around, a lot of people i know asked me where i got them 'cause they thought they looked really nice.
but really, does it REALLY matter what the shoe looks like? i mean, after shredding with any pair after awhile, it's not going to look supafly to most people. all dirty and crap... and what with the coloring if you so feel.

True, usually. Then again you are doing pretty much all of the work with your feet/shoesshredzilla wrote:Shoes are the last thing people look at when checking out fashion of a sport.
When I shred in public one of the first things people notice and mention is my shoes
It doesn't exactly matter what they look like, but then again, what does it matter what anything looks like? it's all preference
note: I sharpie'd all over my first pair of Laver's and got lots of random comments about em before people knew they were primarily for shred.
I think "style" (I mean clothing, not footbagging) is not the most important thing in life!
But even with my normal fashion, I like to wear "oldschool" shoes like the adidas tennis pro, so I really like the style of the lavers.
And one thing that makes footbag so cool is (especially in europe) that there are not many people playing it, so it's kind of special!
And I have no problems wearing that strange little shorts and "old" looking shoes when I play footbag!
I'm wearing it, not because of the look, but because it's the best clothing for playing footbag!
I think it's sad, that so few people have self-mockery!!!
So, don't be affraid to wear your nerd clothing!!!
Have fun wearing it!!!!!

I feel you Jorden. Metaphorically of course. Although 'retro tennis dork' or 'old school gangster' are probably deliberate hipster looks in Chicago.
Completely agree on the short shorts & sweatband comment, and that the overall look of footbag can be really lame.
I don't think we need to go out of our way to be fashion conscious. But if our goal is to attract more people to the sport, and if we look like bozos, it will probably be harder to attract people. Of course, if people are just playing solo in a gym or garage or something, who cares?
I think lavers can be a decent looking shoe, I see a lot of non-footbaggers wearing them just for style, but we tear them up so much over time & a played-in laver (especially in white) is gonna look like crap.
Looking forward to pics of the new prototype whenever they are available.

I say shoe performance is more important than style at the moment for the sport.
Once a quality product has been engineered and proven to perform well, then, yes, let's talk about design. Not the other way around.
I don't believe that the looks of the equipment we're using nowadays significantly affects the the number of people involved in the community.

I feel as though no one has caught on to Jorden's sarcasm (because that's how I read his post), or that I'm just too daft to notice his occasional points of consideration.
For fashion AND performance: What I want on my footbag shoe is wings. That's all. Wings. So that I can be like Apollo/Hermes/Mercury/the flying ***hole in Greek & Roman mythology. I think that will improve my bagging skills, and may open myself to five (No, six! Seven!) dexteritous opportunities that my limpy legs need for footbag. It's because I want to flyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...
So high...

PS: Can't wait for the pics on the shoe prototype, Richard.

The shoe design will be simple at first glance. Upon closer inspection, you will find all the qualities players look for in a good footbag shoe. Sizes will range from 6 to 13. Sizes will be true. The delay in making the prototype is due to correcting mistakes the other shoe companies deal with after production. We are making sure the shoe is right the first time. All of you that feel this sport is lame and needs a cool factor might be in an area where people wear pants most of the time. If you are good at what you do, then be proud of it. Most of those critics are unaware of the factors, such as clothing and related products, that are required for the difficulty being executed in this sport. If people are clowning you that much, blow them off and find another spot to shred. There is only a handful of people on this planet that actually shred. The rest are only spectators.
