Traveling northern USA spring 2009 (IDEAS)

Footbaggers,

This is totally dope: Is anybody willing to travel the USA in spring 2009? Mostly Northern territories, from NYC to Vancouver B.C. roughly said.
Basically the idea would be to visit many towns with lots of shredders and of course shredup some tournaments.

I suggest the following order of towns:

NYC
Rochester
Montreal
Winnipeg*
Missoula
Portland
Seattle
Vancouver B.C.

*Instead of Winnipeg after Montreal an option would be to travel through Toronto, Detroit, Minneapolis and then Missoula

Budget: 5000-6000$
Dates : time span from Mid-march to late June 2009
Actual duration: 50-80days
Medium: Plane, bus, train, possibly car

Tournaments:
Montana Freestyle Jam
Rochester Symp?
SHREDSHREDSHRED

Anymore ideas or advice?

PS: I posted here a few months ago. Due to some changes regarding the dates it wonâ€™t be possible to do this roundtrip, as I planned. Next project would be southern territories and center. If thereâ€™s enough money left a shorter stay in southern cities is not excluded

Anyways, this is an idea. there's no elaborated plan yet. I might simply buy a ticket to NYC and then spontaniously travel across the country...

i'd love to travel cross country with you, but i've already got my heart set on worlds next year so i'll be saving up for that. trip sounds like a crap ton of fun though

flavio,
while the trek from montreal to winnipeg north of the superior is beautiful, it is 2600km of trees and wilderness, rocks and lakes. Also probably one of the most dangerous stretches of highway to drive in canada. if you aren't going to be doing some camping, fishing, etc. it gets boring very quickly.
I would reccomend going south of the superior through the USA. I'd do Montreal, toronto, rochester, detroit, chicago, minneapolis... again there's a ton of nothing between minneapolis, and winnipeg or missoula. After going to vancouver, go to victoria.

We would certainly encourage you to come to Portland. It's pretty footbag historic, but also have a very nice scene here currently. Please keep us posted on your travel plans!

Okay, I gradually get ready with my schedule.

In a few days I will purchase a ticket to Montreal. And another one San Francisco>Europe.

Starting with Montreal Mid. April
Rochester (GRASS)
Boston Jam
NYC and some other towns in the area

Montana Freestyle Jam in May

Vancouver BC
Seattle
Portland
and finally San Francisco

Are there any tournies in late May till June in these areas?

Here is some suggestions:

after Montreal you should go to Toronto before going to Rochester and stop to Niagara Falls.
after NYC you should go to Washington DC.
Then you should fly to Chicago on your way to Montana.
And since you'll be in San Fran, why not go to Los Angeles, San Diego, then Las Vegas and the Gran Canyon.

US Open is usualy early July.

i also have a place for you in Montreal, we'll play footbag and hangout for sure.

And we might see each other in San Fran/Vancouver area in late June.

In late May, memorial day weekend to be exact, CHAOS footbag club hosts the Green Cup, the largest net event in North America. Last year, there was a freestyle competition too, with about 20-25 players in attendance. If you are int he Bay area, be sure to make it to our event! We will do our best to show you excellent hospitality!

I'll be in Missoula for Montana-Freestyle Jam in late May. However, I'll be in the Bay area in late June.

I'd trek to Toronto.

It definitely makes more sense to go from montreal > toronto > rochester > west, than it does to go from rochester > montreal > west. It will save you a BUNCH of time.

I must agree with Johnny here --

New York City to Montreal to Toronto to Rochester seems to make more sense than NYC to Rochester to Montreal...

Well, I'm not totally sure it matters... Any way you do it, there's not a perfectly direct route, and it also depends on When you want to be Where.

There is a good freestyle club in New York City, but most of them are not often on Modified. We keep in contact via a yahoo group, who's address is not as simple as it should be. I'll post back here with the web address later tonight. In any case, there'll be opportunity for some good freestyle in New York City, and some good people to hang out with.

As for Washington D.C., Ken Somolinos (C-Fan), Adrienne Dukes (colefieldhouse22), and Vince Bradley are all in that region, amongst some others.

We shred in Washington DC. Adrienne Dukes and myself are the most active, but once it gets nicer out there are usually about 3-5 people down to play. If this trip includes sight-seeing, then DC should be on your list. We have lots to see here, and most of it's free too.
