Bad knee
Bad knee
I fell on an escalator (!) a while back now and have a nagging knee problem which only feels worse when I've been kicking. While I've used bandaging in the past I've never really found it affective. Could anyone recommend any supports or stretches I can use to strengthen my knee?
I have seen a doctor about a few times and had two ultrasounds, they can't tell me what I've done to it. Need to see a physio I think once uni is done with.
You know, I haven't actually checked YouTube. If the video of it was up there, I could
a. see what the hell actually happened, and
b. see if I did in fact flash everybody as I suspect!
First and last time I ever wore a dress to uni!

I've had a nagging knee problem since I schooled ps whirls a few months back. It got to where I couldn't shred without some pain, so I stopped. After a few weeks I started using a knee band when I shredded. The knee band does wonders for knee support and basically takes most of the impact away. I play every day with a knee band now, and my knee just keeps getting better. I no longer feel any pain in it. I can pretty much play without the knee support band now, but I don't risk it. I'll probably keep wearing it long after it's fully healed because I'm just used to it now.
I use a couple different kinds, but the one I used while shredding is one that covers some of the thigh, and goes over the knee a tiny bit down the shin. It exposes the actual knee cap, but has a support bar under the knee. I have one that is just a thin strap with a knee support bar, but I don't think that gives near as much support. The bigger ones reduce strain on lateral movement as well as bending. I almost forgot, I also wore a band all other times of the day (to and from work, sleep, etc.) That one was more like an elastic knee sock that supports but isn't as restrictive or noticeable in your movement. Both of these can be bought at sporting goods stores.
So my advice would be to lay off it for a couple weeks. When you go back, gradually phase in starting once or twice a week, and then increasing back to your normal routine. Make sure you wear the knee band. It will be awkward your first session or so. It's all good, you get used to it and it's like it's not even there, and it becomes a habit. The good thing is you're giving that knee extra support. Wear that secondary band during the rest of the day when you're not shredding.
Knees are very easily messed up if you don't take precautions when things start to go bad. If you listen to your body and support it, it will pay you back by healing itself. If you don't take care of it, the injuries can become worse and last years. Good luck.
