The glue the old the sole is not strong enough. We are 2 in montreal that bought Q# and we both have the same problem : the sole near the small toe (on the outside part of the shoes) isn't glue very well. So it doesnt hold at all (i played maybe 10 times with the shoes). Now that doesn't old at all and we cann see like inside the shoes when we walk.

I know my explanation are not perfect, i will try to take a picture to show the problem.

Yeah... after about 3 weeks of walking around campus and some very light play the sole of my Qm03s has already come unglued from the base of the shoe making them useless, and the black paint chips like crazy.

They were great for a short while, all disappointment after that. :(.

I'm goin' back to lavers, my Qm02s lasted forever, dunno why quality control got so much worse.

OK, time for an official statement.

First off huge appologies concerning the whole quantum03 issue so far. All shipments were late so we couldn't release them as planned at Euros or Worlds. Then shipments arrived to the individual countries with huge lag times so that freedom footbags got their shipment 2 months ahead of everybody else. Now it turns out that instead of getting an improved quality with respect to the qm02 (as planned) we have similar quality problems as with the qm01. Unfortunately (but understandably) freedom footbags initially assumed that the qm03 would be at least equal in quality to the qm02 so he shipped out some pairs that turned out ot be not OK.
Because of all the lag times and delays and stuff it's been hard to coordinate a collective strategy. Only last week we finally managed to get a full picture over the extent of the damage in all shipments of the qm03.
We are now working towards reproducing the whole series and coming up with suitable measures to reimburse those that got a defective pair. If you are one of the unlucky ones it's best if you get in contact with whoever you bought your pair from. I am note sure what freedom footbags policy will be (daryl is super busy at the moment) but i assume it will be the same or similar to that of the other suppliers: those that got a defective pair will get a replacement pair free of charge once the reproduction run has arrived.
Until then, all qm03 sales will be thoroughly checked before shipping, but should a pair show the defective sole issue nevertheless, you will also be entitled to a free replacement pair (this is the official policy for the siwss and international planetfootbag webshops! check with your local distributor if this is also the case with them).

So the bright side is:
Anyone who has or receives a defective pair can take it to their local shoemaker and get the sole properly glued for a small charge or take some shoegoo themselves and fix them. And then, hopefully before christmas, you get another, brand new and non defective pair for free.

On a last note: planetfootbag has to advance pay for the quantum. So we invest more than $20k each time a new series of qm's is produced. And of course we can't afford to have someone sitting in china doing the quality control for us. We have to trust the internal controls of the manufacturer. Obviously they have failed to some extent on the qm03. But until last week we had no idea if the manufacturer would take responsibility for the defecive shoes or not. Fortunately he has. If not, we would have had to bury the whole quantum project with a total loss of more than $20k to planetfootbag and its affiliates. So you can imagine that we have been sweating pretty hard ever since the first complaints about the defective sole came in.

Again, apologies for all those experiencing difficulties and I hope that we will be able to resolve this issue to everyones sattisfaction.

If the black Quantum03s' paint chips away from the sole, I think I'll invest on a pair of whites instead.

I'm waiting up on Daryl on a reply e-mail for an exchange of the black Quantum03s that I currently have on me, untouched. :)

Yes, we absolutely intend to stand by our products 100%. I'm just very happy to learn myself that we are working with a reputable supplier as well. It's going to take some time before we can get all of the details sorted out, but if you have paid full price for a pair of shoes that only lasted a few weeks, you can expect to be receiving a new pair of shoes at no cost to you. We also sincerely apologize for the quality of the initial batch - we were extremely surprised to learn that the quality was bad after pre-selling the shoes and rushing to get everyone's pairs out, especially considering the '02's which were made by the same company and while not perfect were *FAR* better quality than the Quantum02's.

It's looking like this will take several months before we can get it all sorted out but we will make every effort to provide replacements as quickly as possible. It took a few weeks until we realized just how widespread the problems were, and it's very difficult to tell which shoes are gong to go bad (many pairs are just fine).

Anyhow, as we find out more info we will keep you posted here.

Peace.

I have many good things to say about the Q03's but one thing doesn't tickle me about these shoes.

It's been about a month and a half of real shred and the soles are breaking off of the shoe. I'm prepared to glue them back with glue, but the whole point is that I shouldn't have to do that.

Otherwise... GREAT SHOE!

I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, but will the people that pre-ordered the shoes, but hasn't recieved them yet due to not getting the proper size, be compensated in some way for having to wait 2+ months to get them?

If I remember right, the new batch of shoes won't be in till mid november? That's 3 month's after the pre-sale and the first batch that came in.

I don't mind the wait. Especially with all the issues that have come up. But I was expecting to be playing in a new pair of shred shoes a long time ago!

I have a pair of the black Quantum03s in size 7 that I haven't worn at all (besides the initial fitting of shoe whence I received the package a couple of months ago; now still in mint condition), and I was wondering what will be done about the batch of these supposedly-defective shoes? I promised Daryl that I will wait and exchange my pair with the newer batch, but a couple of players have told me to wear them now and see if they break on me. I mean, I can wait for the newer batch to arrive and make the exchange then. I was just curious on what should/would be done with the initial batch of the Quantum03.

In the first post, someone mentioned that the inside surface is very flat and not good if you have bad ankle crank. Does anyone else have the same opinion. Is it the general concensus that this shoe would not be good for someone with bad crank?

I thought it was a little absurd, to be honest. Even if you have bad crank you just have to adjust your form for your clipper. It has nothing to do with the shoe, especially one that has the proper surfaces for freestyle.

No offense.

Just throwing this out there, but could it be that the sizing of the shoe could've effected the inside surface? My clippers aren't that bad, and I was having some big problems with them. It sounds like Cale was having the same problems as well. I don't know who else got bigger sizes, but it could've made sense if the arc on the inside wasn't of the same ratio as the smaller sizes, especially seeing as it was the first time making a size 13 quantum. Or whatever.

They were supposed to be shipped on the 15th (yesterday) but we have not heard from the supplier over the last two weeks... Just holding our collective breath right now. Hopefully they will be shipped very soon :P.

Peace.

so, things are looking bleak. the shoes should have been shipped on the 15th. now we finally heard from the factory with the info that shipping is delayed until end of november. to be honest, with the reliability that the producer has shown thus far we cannot say when the shoes will actually arrive. our only hope is that when they finally arrive they will not show the quality issues that the current batch had. but overall we are seriously considering to discontinue the quantum. i guess it also depends on how richies shoe project will turn out and if we can cooperate.

Well, that put a damper on my anticipation for the Quantum04 release. :(
And I guess the expectation for consistent releases of black shred shoes.

I've only played in Q3s twice, but here are some things I've noticed. Keep in mind I have played in G6s for the last 3 years, so these are mostly comparisons between the Q3s and the G6.

1. Q3s feel lighter than G6. I've found this helpful for some quick dex motions.

2. The soles on Q3s do not grip as well as G6s. This may make a difference for you depending on what surface you normally play on.

3. The soles on Q3s are marking soles. I botched an attempt at double blender, and the dex foot hit the floor and left a long white streak.

4. The shape of Q3s is less chunky/blocky than G6s. This has made certain dexterities (specifically sets) easier to do.

5. The instep/clippers feel very similar to that of a laver. So if you can play well in Lavers, you will be fine in these. If you are used to G6s, you will probably struggle some. This is really a matter of personal preference. I find clippers in Clima Cools to be easier than clippers in Q3s.

6. I like the toes on Q3s better than on G6s. The toes are very big, and the toe walls don't get in the way. The combination of big open toes and the lightness of the shoe makes toe tricks feel like you are playing barefoot.

I may post again as I play in them more, but I'm taking a break from footbag for a month, so don't hold your breath.

Ok for the record I love these shoes. They are so frikken good, and mine did crack where everyone else's did but they still play fine, it really makes no difference. Anyway, I spoke badly of quantums in the past probably because I didn't have the right size. I ended up getting one size up from last time and it totally fixed the whole toe stall bubble problem I used to be plagued with. Now the toe is just fine. The inside is amazing. Like, the best combination of laver and unit.

The only beef I have is the support of course and the sole being slippery as hell. Really though I will just wear quantums most of the time and bring a pair of units to tournaments I know will have bad floors.

I really hope this doesn't get discontinued.
