Gout (Severe form of Arthiritis)

Post by Will Digges »

2 Days ago I received a very unusual pain in my left big toe. It's a throbbing and excrutiating painful experience. I did not jam or hit my toe in anyway so I ruled out that I could have sprained/broken it. It is very swollen and red, and I have little to almost no mobility with it. Ibuprofen takes down some of the pain and swelling, but it is still really uncomfortable. Mostly at night, I wake up with a very excrutiating pain shooting through my big toe into my foot. I can not walk on the toe at all so I hobble around on the side of my foot.

I did some research on these symptoms and it seems to me that I have a form of Gout, which is a type of arthiritis, supposedly the worst kind. It stems from having a lot of uric acids in your body and not having the right hydration or nutrition levels in your body. Bad Insoles, or No insoles can be a leading cause to this problem but it usually shows in 95% males in their 30's. I had been walking around in my skate shoes with no insoles for a few weeks now, I think that may have been my problem.

As for treatment, I am trying to drink a shit loads of water and eating more alkalizing foods. The idea is to get your body more Alkalized rather than acidic. Also Ibuprofen helps with pain and swelling treatment tremendously. I just wanted everyone to be aware of this because I have a hunch that it has to do with my slamming my feet on the ground in repetition during footbag also my horrible diet takes a major cause.

I hope this doesn't happen to any of you because it really is very painful, I've had my own thoughts of amputating my Big toe it hurts so much. If anyone knows more about this than I do, please feel free to share. Thanks and Peace!

If you're already going to see a Dr., disregard this post:

People looking medical problems up and diagnosing themselves without seeing a Dr. seems really stupid. Go see a Dr; it's a simple test to see if you have gout. The two people (old men) I know that have gout have talked about the pain being so bad that they've wanted to amputate their own toes. Go to a Dr.

I haven't been to a doctor yet, no. I don't have any health insurance. So I did the research on the internet, it's the best possible thing right now. If it becomes unbearable and not getting any better, I will go see a doctor. I felt the same way, when I woke up last night I wanted to amputate my toe.

we should start a no health insurance club. my throat was swelling up and had a bad rash n shit on it so i gargled water and hydrogen peroxide for two days and i was cured. saved me a $180 trip to the walk-in clinic...

that toe shit sounds like the worst thing ever. since its clearly not related to any type of actual injury i cant imagine why this would help at all but maybe you should try to soak the toe in hydrogen peroxide/saltwater. even if it doesnt really help any with the problem it might hurt less if its softer, and it could possibly...draw out some of the alkalinity or something. good luck dude, you'll get past that shit soon enough.

Well it seems the toe has cleared up for the most part. I have regained mobility and swelling has done away. Although if I stub my toe or bump it, it really hurts a lot, other than that I am able to play footbag again. YAY! :D

My dad doesn't think you have/had gout. Just some condition that happens when you stub your toe a lot. His father had gout, so he's familiar with it.

Good to hear you're feeling better Will!

I know nothing about getting a medical insurance in the States and how much it costs, but I know for sure that you will regret for not getting one when shit hits the fan. Please consider getting one.
