Steel City Freestyle
I never noticed how low the set was. I hit it today with this formula:
1) Aimed set around knee height or lower, which means it probably popped up slightly higher than that.
2) Immediately put setting foot down
3) Pushed off of the ground with the original setting foot
4) Raise the knee of the original support foot (almost outward, about a 45 degree angle line formed by the lower leg) while jumping off, and to the side with the leg you original set with.
5) Clear the first dex
6) Twist the whole body into the delay

Yesterday, while waiting for a bus back from my new ciruit building class, I decided to school my weak drifter, while wearing 5 layers of clothing.
I footed it almost every time.
It seems that the major weakness is the clipper, and that is probably why my stepping set is such crud on that side as well.
So, I am going to practice three things:
1) drifter out of crispier osis' (closer to spinning clippers, so that I can see the bag and stall it with stronger support foot positioning-not locked as much in the wrong direction with my ankles)
2) sinking into my clippers from butterflies-steps/drifters
3) sinking into my clippers from ducking clippers-steps/drifters

for a practice or 2, start every single attempt at anything (run or single trick) with
butterfly > op butterfly > whatever you're trying to work on
or
butterfly > pdx mirage > whatever you're trying to work on
Your clipper will either be fixed by the end of doing this for a few days, or you'll really realize where your weaknesses are (for example, when I started doing this, weakside stepping sets that I thought were 90% [because I was always doing them as run starters], were really only 40%... now they're fixed, and midrunnable too)

Kicked w/ Matt
Personal highlights:
*Hit drifter bsos very early on in the session
*Trip walk sealed on both sides. Twice on one. Maybe the other also. I forget.
*5/5 weaksided sidewalk
*swirls were very strong today
*Figured out what I am doing wrong with my weak far butterfly swirl. I will have this trick soon
I had barely any mentionable strings, as my endurance today is shot from work.

I wouldn't take it personal. My assumption is that Matt refuses to let footbag interfere with his social life and he has simply had things planned before you showed up the last (few?) time(s).
You should do what I do. Make plans with him, and then see if other people want to come. That's the way to kick with Matt.

Hey yinz, I finally decided to hop on this little Pittsburgh footbag niche in the great blogosphere. It's nice to see you all staying active. I haven't been kicking enough lately, but I'm hoping you guys are up for a late-week session (is Thursday still a good day?). I'll be kicking tomorrow evening and probably Saturday too, so feel free to call. Oh yeah Nils: we released Najeh again, but I assume you will remain unwavering (domestic assault wasn't enough?). That's the steely resolve this city likes to see.
All the Best,
Tyler

Actually, I just hate your face off Tripp.
Kidding, I'm just a weird footbag player. I'm pretty busy with work and school, so I try not to let footbag become a time consumer for me. And, unlike most people, I really like playing alone, so I just don't really make an effort to get together with people most of the time. Ian just hates kicking alone so he comes to the parking lot right beside my house and it's a win/win.
And, the Halloween thing did not reach my ears until well after I had already booked the weekend solid with plans...unfortunately.
But, yeah, probably excuses. Haha. Let's make plans to kick sometime on a saturday afternoon or something and I'll be sure to come!!!!! I had a blast kicking with you that one day. You hit weird toe links, like me, which is secretly my favorite kind of freestyle.
edit: Tyler! What up player? Welcome to modified. I'm pretty sure our blog brings down the property value of this site. On second thought, no it doesn't. We are the crown jewel.

Almost immediately after getting home last night I crashed on my floor. Eventually I made it to my bed, but overall I ended up with about 11 hours of sleep.
So, then I get to work today and I am de-installing the Starn Brother's show at this vacant factory (the Pipe Building) and they have me on these 20 foot ladders and scaffolding, pressure-hosing paint off of windows all day.
I guess what I am trying to say is that I was probably not in the best of forms to kick today, but I am glad I did.
Matt highlights:
Everything. He can be more specific if he has the time. I am just as feverish atm as I was when I was kicking
Personal highlights:
*Toe motion, both sides at least twice each. New move(s)!
*Spinning sets were better than usual
*Kicked ripstein (still working on this one- I get close a lot but you don't me smoking any cigars- and you better not be either Bob!)
*Some more swirls
*Some more stepping sets on both sides
*A couple more drifters on both sides. Dang this move eludes me. My left side is clearly stronger
*Started out hitting ducking clipper-diving clipper-repeat first try
I am tired.
It's great to see all of this activity on the board.
Tripp, man... Why does it always have to be about you?

I was at a training in our store on Tuesday night. It's right on Sassafrass Way (you know, right behind Bare Elagance). Then me and Jeff and Megan were supposed to go to a Today Is The Day show on the 31st Pub right afterwards, but it ended up being cancelled. I probably should've called you for a little session.
I don't know where I"m going with this...

Got off of work and kicked with Matt. 3rd day in a row.
Matt: Holy cow.
This sort of describes how Matt has been playing:

Personal highlights:
*several weak-sided drifters
*Toe-motion-osis-pm-tomotion-hand or kick or something
*Many toe-motions on on side
*stong ripwalks on one side. Big ones.
*Footed ripstein again. Now I try hopping off my toe during the first set/dex. Looks much better
*gyro inf. weak side, spin, first try.

Zee will reopen at 947 Liberty ave. on Dec. 1
I will be around for Thanksgiving to work on it, so maybe some shred depending on how install goes (message intended for Bob).
Kicked with Matt:
*Sealed trip walk both sides. Multiple on both probably, but I was paying attention to trying to bsos it which I did not do.
*Tow Motion- ducking clipper
*2/2 on twirls, both midstring
*3 consecutive whirls on weakside. Hit all 5+ whirls tried on that side
*Almost hit flip blender by accident. Totally different feel, similar to strong side, so I'll see about this in the near future
*Stronger stepping sets
*got closer to weakside toe motion. It's easy to foot if I think of my midtime paradon and bail to an osis, but difficult to get on top of enough to stall.
Putzed around with furious sets. Ha. I understand how to do them but question if I will ever work up to and school them out of respect for my knees. I understand the whirling-quantum idea completely. Nuts.
I love the way quantum feels when I hit it right.
Received a lb. of local venison that Jake gave me.
Got my butt kicked by him in darts twice.
Ate a lb. of venison.

Learned some dod, paradon, barfly and xbd theory (dlo, drifter, torque) from Ken. EDIT: and whirl theory- Thanks again, Ken!
Kicked with Matt.
Personal Highlights:
*drifter-dyno both sides
*dlo on weakside x2, but not once on the other
*Hit tripwalk into a solid string
thought about the move and decided to try borrow some of its feel for atomic sets.
*hippy atom smasher both sides, multiple times
*hippy legbeaters both sides, many times
*legbeater-pm-legbeater, both sides, though my ones starting on my right foot are clearly better
*Swirl-swirl-swirl-I don't remember.
*accidently hit a leggy quantum set, and it was huge. I was going for atomic smasher. So weird. I need to think about this one for a long while.
Some more stuff. Like spinning osis'.
Good day so far. Terrific weekend.
