Laver "mids" [Was: "anybody ever..."]

.... buy some rod laver "mids" and cut off the top to make cranking possible? because there are loads of different styles out there of mids, and i was just curious if anyone had tried that. i bet if you made the cut neat enough and stitched it closed, they would be just like normal lavers. thoughts?

I remember someone has done that type of mod on their mid-top Lavers, and I think the person in question wasn't satisfied.

I believe there are some net players that represent with mid-tops on the court, though.

I would think that it would make the shoe a little too weak and flimsy if you were to do that. The top of the shoe is kind of where it all comes together, and I can only imagine that without that stitching and support at the top that the shoe would become like paper.
