I'm going this Saturday. I'm really hoping to hear some of the kickass new songs they've been writing. On youtube, the old songs sound really unenthusiastic and like they don't want to be there. I definately like the old songs better, but I feel like they've moved on since then, and they've found a better fit.

I wasn't sure that there was a concert yesterday. I thought the only ones were this friday/saturday. how did it compare to the other ones you went to?

There are 2 2-day shows. The 2nd day is better. But they are both good. expect a little experimental stuff, lots of drifty guitars and spacey sounds. They play Soma! They'll play from every album. Siva and I am one, Siamese, adore, mellon collie, machina 1 and 2, zeitgeist.

I was definately feeling this session a lot more than yesterdays. Here are some highlights:

 I worked on atws
 I almost got level 7 triforce
 I tried ripped warrior, got the duck, but fell before the buttefly
 Almost flip ps whirl. almost.
 definately a better, more consistent flip double down, almost flip barfly
 a couple good mess-around tricks, like cloud kick between clippers and sitting/laying sole stall

Ok, so maybe I didn't really hit much or do much, but I definately felt a lot better than yesterday when I felt like my legs were going to shatter.

 4 tripless!!!

Could've done more, but I was working on basics in the beginning of the session, so those were the only highlights I could squeeze out today.

I think I'm going to follow the path of the quantum set right now, rather than the atomic set. It's just not coming along, much like how I could never learn fairy set. Once I feel like I've mastered both pixie and/or quantum I'll practice fairy and/or atomic. But right now neither set is coming to me. Stepping is doing pretty good, too. I'm doing really good with my basic 3's such as whirls and drifters, and feel like they can now become a part of my regular shred. And for now, at least until I feel like I've got a good handle on shuffly stuff, I'm not going to practice uptime components like spinning and ducking. I just feel like I should overcome the more technical stuff before I can do the pretty, styley moves. Oh, and I got a haircut.

Yay footbag! :footbag:

No, I've hit pixie dlo before. There might be another one, but I'm not really sure. I don't keep track of a lot of those. Oh yeah, and I've hit pigbeater.

Jeez, so much has happened since I last posted in here. The Smashing Pumpkins concert, two kids from my school dying in a car crash, the past two weeks have been full of weird rollercoasterish moments. What a terrible sentence, not only in structure, but in unsubtleness or compassion. It's all weird for me right now, and a lot of the stuff I'm getting hit with I don't know how to react to.

I haven't played much footbag during any of it. I better practice up, because I accidentally made it into a school pageant after turning in a phony application. Well, not phony, but I didn't take it seriously and I turned it in for a laugh. Looks like the laugh is on me. So I gotta come up for a routine for the 'talent' portion. All proceeds from ticket sales go to breast cancer awareness or something, so I guess that's good. I also want to not suck for NYJ.

Guitar playing has become a big part of the last two weeks. I feel like I've been treating the guitar more like a second set of vocal cords rather than an actual instrument, so I've been drilling a lot of scales and learning a lot more chords and stuff. I feel like I can express myself better with music than with footbag. Footbag is good for taking the anger and worries out of my head and leaving me clearminded. With music I can kind of open myself up and basically do whatever I want to do, which I feel is more expressive than footbag, at least in my level. I don't know if I can accurately describe the relationship though.

i get what you're talking about with the music. I feel more expressive playing the piano then i do playing footbag, but i still love playing footbag.

Looking forward to kicking it at NYJ. See you in 7 days (thats soooo close!)

yay for nyj :) strange that a couple months ago it felt so far off, almost like it would never happen.

i'm happy to say that when i played yesterday, it didn't feel bad, even though i hadn't played in a couple weeks. so yay for that.

Here are some song lyrics I'm writing that I kinda like. It's all in drop D tuning, because I felt like writing a metal-ish song.

(starts slow, single notes)
What has happened to this place?
Devoured whole, engulfed in flames
Piece by piece it all falls down
Thru the floor and straight to hell

(4 or 8 beat rest, then guitar comes in distorted with a I-III-I-VII chord progession. )
As prophets know the end draws near and welcome its embrace
Overwhelmed with a power held that the world can't escape
Deepest darkest secrets regress to a further state
Unassured by untruthful words by a savior that can't save

I'm going for more of a strong vocal pronunciation with this song, but the lyrics all fit ok, almost like a jigsaw puzzle missing a couple pieces. I'll probably reword some things, and I definately need to add more to it. In my head it kind of reminds me of a Mars Volta song, the way the words fit into the chords.

One thing I'm not into is the idea of a chorus. It's too overdone, and its too predictable. There are too many songs out there that are "intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-end" that it's pathetic. I'd much rather just make a bunch of different sounding verses that fit into the same progression differently and bring about many different thoughts and emotions and sides to each song. Or like a chorus that has different words and intonations that make the song a little different each time. I'm just tired of predictability in music. Sometimes its good, but it makes the replay value of certain songs drop really fast. I like songs that revolve mainly around one idea and just expand upon that idea in different ways, which is what goes on in classical and electronica. Overall, it's good to know how to write a good pop song, but people should stop writing them.

Blah blah blah blah blah.

I'm back from only 2/3 days of NYJ. For the most part it was fun, minus barely being able to play the second day from my legs feeling like jello. I met and talked to some cool people, and I must admit that it sucks I had to stay at my sister's apartment. It would've been nice to hang out with people more and stuff, but I was too busy can't do all this stuff. Next year I'm definately staying all 3 days, and I'm definately staying in the suite.

I played the best I've played in weeks (ok, so I haven't really played in weeks). But really, that was probably the best I've played ever. My stepping set was turning out to be really good, and I relied on it a lot even though I feel like I'm not in complete control of it. Drifters were ok, regular bops need some work, whirls sucked like always, pixie set can never ever be better, ducking sucked, spinning sucked, dods sucked but I was still hitting couple, etc. I also learned a couple pointers on certain tricks like pixie paradon, ps whirl, pdx dlo. Pixie paradon and pdx dlo both need faster 2nd dexes and quicker sets. For ps whirl I need to bring my knee up higher before I go for the dex. So theres some more shit to work on. Yay. I also learned a little about just being in a couple different circles, not only from watching everyone's behavoirs, but from getting an angry look from Matt Cross when I guess I self-served too much or something. Oops. It was weird though, each circle had a different feel to it, like some people were doing exactly what I got an angry look for, multiple times, but that just seemed to be how that particular circle was playing. It's hard to describe, it was like each circle had its own unwritten appropriate passing time/trick quota or something. It's hard to fully understand/get used to considering the only circles I've played in have all been with the CIC guys. Geez, I hope somebody reading this understands me and somebody isn't just like "what the fuck is he talking about?" Whatever though. Usually when I type in this footblog I take the filters off of my brain and just write exactly what I feel, which is relieving, but unrealistic, since I'm not one to be controlled by pure emotion. Blah blah blah.

Colorado tomorrow 4 skiing. That should be fun. I'm always afraid I'm leaving something behind on trips like these. And even if I don't, I always get that feeling of "damn, I really should've brought this with" and it bugs me the whole time even if I don't need it. Once I get back I plan on going on modified/facebook/email stuff a lot less. The internet seems to be an addiction for me. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I'm not into self-mutilation, I hate cell phones, blah blah blah the list goes on of stupid things kids do nowadays. And I can tell it's an addiction because I don't even like it. Technology isn't a way of bringing people together, it only brings people further apart. I fucking hate 'social networking systems.' I feel a little attached to facebook, but today I finally got rid of that stupid bullshit myspace. They should rename it "wasteofspace." ha. haha. I suck. I like it for music and stuff, but even then with the big banners and flashy things band pages take forever to load (at least for my computer.) So yay for that. But it's also just a giant waste of time. Sharing pictures is nice, talking to people can be nice, but what the hell else is there to do? How do I spend so much time doing nothing? And a lot of times I log into modified and find that there's very little left to read or respond to, and not a lot of stuff on there here interesting. I admit it was a turning point in my footbag career, and I learned a lot about the sport on here, but I feel like the rest is up to me now, and I don't need to waste time with the drama and stuff (not that I won't continue to log on and read some stuffs.) I should also start watching what I eat. I'm getting older now(not THAT much older. I'm still a fuckin kid). But my eating habits are terrible, and my metabolism isn't what it used to be. And this time I can't just cut out junk food, I need to start eating better overall. While cutting out cake and candy and soda can help, I still eat bad portions of stuff at meals, and my diet isn't balanced at all. Now that I think about it, turn this paragraph into a small new years resolution, even though I think new years resolutions are bullshit. If there's one thing Obama taught me, it's that we all need change. Mmmmmmm, change.
Image
And after all the cab rides during nyj, I especially need change. Fuck. So, lemme write down everything I want to do next year.

 bye bye internet taking over my life
 bye bye bad eating habits
 I can't play footbag every day like I used to, but I would like to be able to play at least twice a week at the very least. No more not playing for like 3 weeks unless i have an injury
 start writing better music, learn guitar better, maybe join/create a band.
 get a girlfriend or something. why not?
 stop caring what ignorant people think. i don't have to prove anything to stupid people, and i should spend my time focusing on people that i care about.
 attempt to get more sleep. its like 1am now, and theres no way i'm going to wake up and feel good about myself tomorrow.
 start listening to jazz music. its something i've been interested in, but never really felt it right. jazz isn't like regular pop music, but nor is it like classical. its structured, but its freeflowing. its like not the "quick fix" rock/pop/hiphop songs they play on the radio that overly portray a certain distinct emotion. i just need to take more time to enjoy it.
 look at the world through a different lense. whatever that means.

So thats about all the thoughts I could muster. Thanks for reading, I love you all, and have a happy new year. If you're not reading this, then fuck you.
