Yo.

I saw "Bullitt" last night. A movie with Steve McQueen. I've never seen that one, so I decided to give it a try, even if it is pretty damn old - 40 years by now. All in all it was pretty cool. A nice plot, nice camera and some action as well.
Last night I heard that the movie is one of a few which must not be reworked, because the original charme of the movie should not get lost.

Today I learned again Chinese vocs and grammar, which is fun. I've been doing this for 4 full weeks now....every day laerning the stuff I need in my next year of studies...I hope it's going to be similarly successful as the passed year.
I really enjoy the logic of Chinese... some examples....:

youming = to be famous. you = have, own; ming = name.

xiyidian = laundry. xi = to wash; yi = clothes; dian = store

It's cool, because even if you do not know a word you can put the words to paraphrase it together and tada...there it is ;)

Of course you have to know the tones and the characters in order to pronounce and to write it properly :D That's the learning part ;P

Gonna be out for a session in half an hour or so...

peace

So...been 2 weeks since I've last posted.

University has begun on October 20th, so I'm again living in Hamburg for the week and returning home on fridays.

On the one hand Sinology is pretty relaxed, because we've got a new teacher in modern chinese language who is very, very laid-back. On the other hand I now attend Classical Chinese, learning the language spoken around 200 b.c. and earlier.
Our professor is very effiecieny-oriented, thus I've got to learn about 300 new characters each week from now on till next February. It's fun, but it's very much hard work. So far I am performing well and have no difficulties with the classical texts, which is good :P

Footbag suffered a bit under the beginning of my studies. In Hamburg I have no location to train....that is kinda sad.
On Tuesday I gave the university sports a visit...but they rejected my demand on having a chance to enter the gym twice a week, while the sports the university offers use the gym.
How do you other modified-users got all those nice gyms I've seen in your videos!? .... tell me what you've done

Nevertheless I had an epic session last night!
Somehow all worked pretty cool...albeit I've not touched a footbag in 12 days or so :P

I had great runs, basic runs that is, but really solid and almost all of them were 15-20+
Ducking Clipper and Diving Clipper BSOS - I did not even dream of this one before the session...it made my day.

I've almost hit Ducking BF bsos...
I will shred later on, but first...back to university stuff.

and now for the englishspeaking people ^^

Had a shred last weekend and played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

Had pretty good sessions again. Basic stuffs gets more and more solid.
The few highlights this weekend were:
Quantum Mirage (just've tried it at the end of saturdays session...hit it one side)
Diving bsos again
far rake bsos.... ^^
symp mirage bsos three times

Apart from that, my biggest achievement concerning footbag is the discovery of a location I can use for training while staying in Hamburg for my studies.
I've watched the new WRC Footbag video this weekend and figured out that they are shredding at their local indoor skatepark.
Well...step 2 formed in my mind...Is there an indoor skatepark in Hamburg ? - Yes, there is!!
From Monday till Friday 3-8 pm is free for everyone....:D
I'm gonna check it out the next days...Hopefully I will find a spot to shred in the winter days..that would be too awesome.

I wanna hit Near DLO bsos in one of my next sessions.

greets, simon

first post 2009.

perhaps this year I'll really write this blog.

had a session today at my friends house.
I drilled a lot of osis links. basic stuff, ducking and diving.
I've also hit my first highlight this year:
- Stepping Far Osis>Dyno

Yesterday I also managed to create a new sampler, actually it is my 40th.
I think I'm gonna post every tracklist of my samplers from now on, maybe somebody here likes similar music.

1. UpCDownCLeftCRightCABC+Start - Embers & Ashes (Intro)
2. The Fall of Troy - Chapter I: Introverting Dimensions (experimental post-hardcore)
3. Long Distance Calling - Fire in the Mountain (instr. post-rock)
4. Sometree - Bending the Willow (post-rock)
5. mewithoutYou - Wolf Am I (and Shadow)! (experimental, unclassifiable)
6. mewithoutYou - Yellow Spider
7. Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire (indie-rock)
8. Frank Turner - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (cover; folk-rock)
9. A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (GTA Vice City ;))
10. Trentemoeller - Take Me Into Your Skin (electro, ambient, minimal)
11. Mahavishnu Orchestra - Vital Transformation (Jazzrock, Fusion)
12. The Mars Volta - Televators (experimental, progressive)
13. The Samuel Jackson Five - Skinflick Dress Rehearsal (jazz, instr. post-rock)
14. Jakob - Oran Mor (instr. post-rock)
15. UpCDownCLeftCRightCABC+Start - McDoomish (instr. post-rock)

The sampler lacks an interlude, but I like the moods the sampler is running through...from a rocking beginning over lighter sounds to electro and jazz back into the post-rock. The ending is not perfect, but every sampler has its weaknesses ;)

Tonight I'm gonna start my first book of 2009: Things fall apart by Chinua Achebe. I don't really know what to expect, because I formed the plan to read novels and fiction this year from two toplists. One from Time Magazine and one from The Guardian UK. I just wanna broaden my knowledge of literature this year and I thought it was a good way. Apart from that I just wanna read more books than the last years. I kind of went from book to book with 1-3 months intervals, which is way too much time left unread =) It's one of my new years resolutions to read more than 20 books. I'm quite confident now that I can manage to read something between 20 and 30.

Tomorrow I'm going to shred again with my friend. I need to drill basics alot more before I can move on to advanced elements. I really want to restrict myself with ducking, diving, symp mirages, stepping, DLOs, Atomics, Pixies and I wanna add Whirls and Swirls.
Those are my key concepts for 2009 and everything I wanna master bs.
For sure I am gonna try some other stuff too, but I really want to concentrate on those elements and add them to my daily shredroutine in the coming year.

So much for now, Simon

hey simon nice to see that you reactived your blog, I should too.
And I think I will start tomorrow when I'm back in the country of cheese, flowers and weed. ^^
Sorry btw that it took so long to answer you. I'm lazy and didnt have much sessions because of my fucking right foot. But now it seems to be full recovered and I'm ready to start my training for berlin. :)

I think the question if you are coming to worlds is unnecessarily.

props on Stepping Far Osis>Dyno
can you do blender? would be also a cool combo.. and for sure b2b ;)

You seem to have a good taste in music even so I dont know much bands of your sampler, but I know the mars volta and they kick ass.. I saw them a long time ago live in a small club in dortmund. It was the tour of deloused in the comatorium. my fav album from them.

Good luck with your book challegen, I also try to read more this year.
and please greet the other bremen guys from me.

Hey Chris!! Nice to hear from you again.
The question is unnecessary indeed, for sure I'll be there :P

I can't do Blenders yet...and the link was more a lucky hit than really solid combo for me.

Hope to shred with you again soon

only short update due to lack of time...

Life/studies:

Exams are starting at the end of January with modern Chinese on 28th.
The first week of February will be tough then:
2nd: exam of introduction to historical science
3rd 8.15-9.45 political science; 10.15-11.45: Classic Chinese...this is ridiculous...
5th: History of China

I hope I can pass them all in the first try, it's gonna be hard this semester.
Apart from that nothing really has happened...I'll get a new mp3 player next week...that's gonna be me highlight apart from studying for my exams :D
ah, well I'm still going for the 50 book challenge...got 1/5 of my second book, which turns out to be quite interesting though it is sometimes hard for me to get the exact meanings....The Adventures of Augie March is the title. I can now cope with the language, but in the beginning I really had to concentrate on my reading.

Footbag:

I had a pretty good week of footbag. Had 3 sessions so far and hit some nice stuff:

Toe ss Whirl bs
Dimwalk bs
Some links:
Sidewalk>Torque
Sidewalk>Ripwalk
Blur>Symp Mirage
Atom mid-string
Torque>Dyno
Torque>N DLO
Dyno b2b
Osis>Ducking Clipper bsos

that pretty much were the highlights...
I will work on Whirls, Pixies, Stepping and Ducking more often from now on and besides, for sure, drill the basics :P

so long

It's been a while since my last post due to my exams at university.
I had a 2-week footbag break, which was kind of annoying, because during the exams I really felt it was missing. Well, I had 5 exams and I'm pretty confident I've passed them all more or less satisfyingly.
Chinese goes well....got an A- and B+ in my exams. That felt good...it somehow showed it was worth the break of footbag to have the opportunity to really concentrate on footbag during the holidays - which is what I will do now! :)

I came up with a program for the almost 2 months off:

- I'd like to play 5 of 7 days a week, with 3 drill and 2 shred sessions
- Basic Drills I wanna repeat every session I have
- 4 Concepts I wanna get down: Stepping, Pixie, Ducking/Diving, Whirls
- a few things I can do at the end of sessions to try some new stuff and to learn some advanced tricks like Dyno, DLOs, Drifters....

I'll keep record of my achievements here to see if there is any use in having such a program...but I honestly believe there's nothing better I can do than to stick to this plan :P

Basic Drills
- Far Clipper x24 (23)
- Infinity x33
- Legover x43
- Near BF>Infinity>rpt x2
- Mirage>ss Mirage>rpt x2
- ss BF>Osis>Pdx Mirage>rpt x8

I'll add more drills with more sessions

Highlights of all sessions during holidays:

Osis>Ducking Clipper>Ducking Clipper bs
Osis>Ducking Clipper>Ducking Clipper>rpt
DLO ss
Pixie ss Mirage ss
Magellan ss
Quantum Butterfly ss
Dyno>Ducking Clipper fs
Ripwalk b2b
Blur bsos
Dimwalk mid-string
Ducking BF bs
Diving BF bs
Whirl bsos x2

I try to ask my teachers at beida how to get that word into the standart chinese dictionaries!!!

Hey Alf...everything's going well with Chinese.

Well...my Kouyu teacher told me that Chinese people refer to it as sha1bao1 = sandbag. zubao also makes sense for sure, as it's literally translated...

I'll study in China in my 7th semester...you're right. Don't know where to go so far though :P

props to your bothsideness and to your infinity x33, I think my record is almost the half of yours.
You have a few good drills, I think I will copy some of them to my trainingslist. ;)

Did you already book/choose a hostel for berlin?

Thanks Chris.
Bothsidedness is not as good as it seems. My Pixies are very weak on both sides :D
Ducking, Whirls and Dynos are more equal.

Well, I haven't booked anything for Berlin because of a certain happening this week.
Perhaps your reply here gives me the opportunity to descreibe what happened.

First of all, I did smoke much of weed or whatever you wanna call it. I did smoke for approximately 5 years. 3 years long it was daily routine.
I never intented to stop, probably because I just was an addict.
I stopped taking drugs since 4 days now. There is a reason, I have a huuuuge problem. I got caught by the police on Monday...They tested my urine in order to know if I was taking drugs or not. Well, the result seems obvious.
I got taken to their station and a physician took blood from me for further analysis.
I am now forbidden to drive for 3 months and have to pay around 750€ for this.

But this is not nearly the worst part....Every German knows some test called MPU - Idiotentest (test for idiots) and I can definitely count on the police having me pass this test before they return me my driver's license.
No problem with that either, but it costs a damn bunch of money....
So, all in all, I'll come around with something slightly above 2000€. This fact kinda restricts me from booking a hotel/hostel now for Berlin and blows my whole planning, holidays, life UP.
Well, those are the facts...I don't know anything for sure until now, so I just have to wait what they are intending to do. But I prepare myself for the worst case, which means MPU.

Well, it all was my fault...and if they wouldn't have caught me on Monday...they would've the other day.
I now gotta stop taking drugs- which is good - and have to find a job to earn the money for the test and for Berlin - which is also good in its way.
That is only when my parents won't kill me on the weekend, when I tell them about this.
I've already found a substitute for my joint in the evening...20-30min of footbag....guess, what's better for me!?

Well, that's my messed up life at the moment and I can just hope that they will not send me to the MPU, but it would be the 8th wonder of the world, if they don't.
Wish me luck. Hopefully I'll see y'all in Berlin.

so long, simon

Thanks.
Well, you gotta learn from mistakes, don't you ?
That's life, that's footbag :P

I'll make it to Worlds 09...whatever the price will be.
I can now hit DATW in-out on strongside consistently.
Yesterday I footed Reactor. Perhaps I can hit this one in one of my next sessions.

So, I've just talked about this whole episode to my parents...
Everything was way more realxed than I'd imagined....We're gonna solve this problem together; the only thing important to my mom is that I really really really quit doing drugs and learn from this for my life.
I'm pretty relieved right now... I'd always problems talking about stuff like that to my parents, because I'm a pretty much introverted person that rather solves problems by declining to talk about it and let them be solved by time.
I figured, that this time I couldn't really remain silent till the 'big bang'...well...feeling better now...pretty excited which punishment the police has in for me.

Hit Pixie Legover bsos today.
