way too much homework to play for a long time session, but i played for like an hour. felt good, despite the four day gap in play. Had great variety and some nice consistency. Stepping felt on, so I hit Blur BSOS without really thinking about it, and stepping far clipper b2b wasn't hard, stepping ss mirage BSOS came pretty quickly and that was pretty much all I did with it but it felt good. Hit a few more rubberman links and just stringed well for a few longer strings and then had to stop. too much work!!!!!!

had a session today. Just getting back into the swing of things. It felt really good to play with my feet again. Freeing if you will. Although my attitude has been kind of wavy of late, I do believe right now that I'm kind of happy? things are certainly bright, although the part that sucks about that is I don't want to do the homework I have to do and waste all that good energy on it. Oh well at least the papers on improving the earth. back to footbag?

highlights; not too many, but i'm sore from hiking all weekend, so leamme lone, mmkay?
 new infinity record: 24. Awesome. It was first try too.
 backside Fudge multiple times to strings. That is such a ballin trick. I love it and want to put it into the sick 3 I may be filming for the online comp. we'll see
 flip backside fear like a year after I hit it my strong side. I knew it would come pretty easy, I just never felt like trying. Anything else? Hmm I don't know. . . not really. but a good hour or so session to get back into legball helped settle my nerves and center me. Good good good. Back to esay writing. Not so good not so good not so good.

So I had a session yesterday with Justice. Nothing too spectacular, trying some fun links and tricks that I don't do much. My legs were not stellar, no aspirin for me because the new skin drugs I'm taking warn me against aspirin and alcohol. Since I drank last night, I'm pretty glad I didn't have any. But anyways, it was a historic session for Justice. He must have hit like 20 mirages, about 4 legovers and a ton of clippers both sides. We fixed a few parts of his game and it actually went a long long way. Good times.
my personal highlights and favorites:
 Toe blur. Yeah that's right, who's getting a quantum? this guy
 flip Plo and footed flip smear
 fairy ss mir>fear>rpt again
 Dlo>ss dlo. a few times and in different ways, but yeah dlos felt alright
 Flog (or whatever fairy dlo is) to string! first time in like 3 months I've hit that. I think It's my only three dex right now. Could be wrong but I can't hit anything into paradon....yeah I think it's my only 3 dex.

That's just about it I think. My string length suffered but I didn't expect it to be incredible, I just felt it in my legs that day

played yesterday. short session, short list of highlights but I played at the school gym after some basketball with the snowboard team and the captain went insane when I whipped out 20 alternating clippers and then strung for a while, ending in ducking clipper, where he was like WHAT? so that was cool.

highlights?:
 fairyssmir>fear>rpt>string
 Plo BSOS in a string with both atomsmashers and a couple blurs

not too much else, since it was such a short session, like 25 minutes, but I didn't want to forget. I'll probably play again today.

Gotta update before I forget even more of what I did yesterday. First off, I may have to take a break for a few days because my shin muscles, the front of the leg muscles which you use for crank and a little bit of pulling up your toes, are really really sore to the point where I get leg pains if I'm walking to class and it's more than 300 feet away (every class of mine is). So sadly I won't play today, maybe not tomorrow or tuesday. I think it's how it's gonna have to be, but that said I had an alright session anyway.

 Fairy ssmir>fear>rpt
 Fear>fairy ssmir Bsos
 Tap X 2>Lo>rpt>string
 Tap>Atomsmasher>tap
 Smear>PLO>string
 PLO BSOS again
 diving clip>ducking clip bs

I'd say the only other real highlight is how I am actually able to hit both blurs somewhat comfortably now, and my stepping is coming along although it was off enough not to be able to bsos ripwalk yesterday. Oh well. Soon enough.

I decided that I might try something a la dave clavens' writing. The world should know me beyond footbag, even if it is the thing that makes me most happy nowadays. It disturbs me that it makes me most happy, but it's true that days when I play are more fun to me than days when I don't. I am an engineering student, so I don't expect my writing to be all that good.

The thing I think about alot nowadays is how to be a real grown-up or at least how to grow up. It's taken me a year or so now to even realize how closed to me the first eighteen years of my life now are. I was watching American Graffiti earlier today and the movie presented such a snapshot of classic highschool drama and the transition period between highschool and college, it really started to highlight or at least bring into stark relief for me how far gone those days are. When I was in highschool and watched pretty much any movie, I would sometimes say to myself, "I'm gonna do that someday" or "That's something that can happen to me." It was to me a presentation of a limitless world laid out in front of me. Movies, though unrealistic, could almost represent options for the future. However, I was watching American Graffiti today and it came to me that the world has changed again. There was a big change from child to high schooler, and now there's one from high schooler to adult. I can no longer look at a highschool movie as an option for my life. It's disturbing to see the future, or at least my possibilities, narrow so much in one jump. I have effectively finished a chapter in my life. I can refer back to it, but it is now a read-only file.
It is into this world that I wake up every day. I feel very much isolated in the effective beginning of the story of the rest of my life. I have never thought of it that way until now, but I think that makes sense as to why college has felt so lonely. It is the beginning of a new movie for me. I suppose I need to learn that in movies, they skip over days, weeks, months of the boring bits and wait until the action is rising to start taking shots closer together. When I was used to highschool and senior year, it was the climax of the first eighteen years of my life. The slow new beginning of college has seemed especially sad and somewhat pointless, since I felt forced to leave my highschool life without ever really getting any falling action. It was a climax until the last period in the chapter.
Nowadays, I'd say I'm mostly OK with this change of life's course, but there are days where I cry for what I feel like I missed out on. Without digressing into random thoughts on the subject, that's about all I have to say about that.

had a session again! It went, at least. It wasn't great but I didn't really expect it to when I hadn't played since saturday. Lame. However, I got through all my drills pretty easily, and had a few nice strings and cleaned up my atomic set, which helped me hit tap>atmsmasher>tap again with the other atomsmasher later in the string. Hit ripwalk BSOS and footed it back to back, but not quite yet, I suppose. Worked more ducking. That stuff is just straight hard. Bad times but at least I'm kind of making progress.

anyone ever get shin pains that aren't splints? like the muscle that cranks your foot for clippers and pulls it up to catch on toes on the front outside of your leg? Anything I can do about that? I'm getting it so that my shin muscle just kind of gives out so I can't crank anymore sometimes. I don't know. oh well

calf stretches and lay off stepping and infinities for a bit. I think playing too far either on your balls or your heels has something to do with it too. It's an issue of extremes. Not sure. I've had that before, though. Sucks.

HEALTH THREAD! - - props on all that atomic stuff, too, Ian. Honestly you've surprised me with your atomics. Not because it's some big scary concept and deserves mention, but I just thought you would've steered more toward pixie/fairy and swooping drifter/torque style tricks. But that's awesome anyway. Can't wait to hack during Thanksgiving

Well, Doug tank came up this weekend, so we had a nice session yesterday to kind of play off the aftereffects of halloween night. It was an alright session for us both. We both wanted to play so much better, but I was all in all happy that it turned out how it did. I worked a little with fairy, a little with atomic and a little with head dexes.
highlights:
 diving clip>ducking clip>rpt. That took so long for me to hit. I've been working on that stuff for like a month. But now it's done. I just have to hit it x10 contacts or something like that soon.
 voodoo. Or whatever pdx merlin is. that was cool and Doug and I both agreed it was textbook and looked miragey on both legs, so not like a far revup or anything.

buuump!
wow that's the first time that's happened in a while. However, i played a session on friday or saturday recently that was pretty good. Hopefully I'll play today, but no great guarantees. Homework and school and me effing up at life has really put a damper on it all lately. However, a good session.

 new infinity record: 26. First try. Boom goes the dynamite
 fear>fairy ss mir>rpt starting flipside, which means I can now b2b fairy set flip, which was sweet
 hit tap>ssmir>rpt and atomsmasher>mirage>rpt in strings, and hit tap>atomsmasher>tap starting from both ways. I'm getting close. Oh so close.
 hit schmoe bsos and stepping ss pu bs. Everyone hits schmoe>pixie something. I want to hit Stepsspu>fairy something. Really ffreaakk you ouwt.
 Pdx dlo bs. That was fun. It feels awesome when i hit it because as long as i remember to torque my hips hard when I'm getting ready to hit it, the trick is easy.

I stopped sooner than I wanted, because I went to dinner with some folks and I decided that making friends was also kind of a worthy goal. so it was only an hour an a half, but I can only imagine if i played as much as I wanted, how much better I would be, because I make such progress when I play. I want more!

Oh yeah, and i didn't play much this weekend because I kind of started stitching again. Me posting a stitching thread made me want to get back into it, so I now have two more higher gather, pretty dang likeable in my opinion bags to sell. I'll post pictures soon enough. peace!

well you see, i had a session. Not incredibly long, nothing incredible done, but a session nonetheless. I did have one pretty special highlight, though.

 Pdx dlo BSOS and both were mid string with a bunch of contacts after. So fulfilling. That was an awesome string. really quite good.

had an angry session yesterday. Nothing too spectacular. I worked a few concepts I don't do often, like whirls and a little gyro. I think I'm starting to understand gyro clipper. Set like an osis but spin the body, was what I got when I started catching it more consistently and closer to me. One highlight was whirl>osis>rpt. That was real good. I've wanted that for a while. I will play today. Expect it.

So all the school work before break really screwed with my footsack potential. I didn't manage to play much this week, however, I went dropless during a presentation on footbag in my spanish class. That was awesome. I was practising and I kept dropping really simple stuff meant to explain things, like around the world. But then the presentation came and things started working. It was all really little strings, so it's not epic to go dropless, but I represented the sport well. People liked it haha.

Other news in my life, I am going back to rochester this weekend. RFA here I come. Maybe Syracusian shredders too. Hope to play before sunday though so I know I won't suck too bad at the session.

so i've played alot this past week but I forget most everything I've hit so I'll talk about today. I had a good one.
for a while i worked on stringing somewhat easy stuff together. got a bunch of 20+ contact strings which were alright but the one i was most proud of was a drill string. 10 mirages>10 ss mir>10 mir>5 ss mir>5 mir>5 ss mir>3 clippers and drop because I was too tired. that was a string that made me feel alright about how I play footbag.
then I was working some more guiltless type strings. I wasn't doing well, but eventually just recoursed to doing osii because I needed the practise. I had a little progress with those. made 14 contacts of osis>ss clip>rpt.
Then I was working concepts. I hit ten fairy opp toes in a row. That was sweet because I've never tried that before. Turned out it wasn't that hard.
then i practised atomics and that did actually help. I footed atomsmasher * 3! that was cool.
practised clipper set heights and made four really comfortable ducking clippers as a result.

all in all I think it was a good session. A little frustrating in the middle but good.

Hey hey modified land. played a quick hour today. I'm actually getting used to and liking the new shoes. I also liked what I did yesterday with the sectioned off time slots. It helped me focus and then move on to other things in a timely fashion rather than just throwing myself at the world of footbag in general and being totally overwhelmed.

started with some kicks and got what I'm pretty sure is a record. Kicking has never been a concern for me so about 70 kicks in I dropped but that's pretty much the record as fas as I can remember. then i had some long tiltless shading into guiltless strings with less drills and more just plain fun with my tricks. I had a good good time doing them. It was actually fun to play because I felt in control at the tiltless level. I could hit whatever i wanted. The only times I dropped were on things that were new for me. ducking clipper without warming that up, fairy without warming those up, things like that. It felt great to know at least I have a pretty strong base.

then started drilling some new stuff. hit 16 infinities second try. Pretty good. spent a bunch of time on osis.

QUESTION on osis for anyone who reads the blog. imagine you set your clipper. does it go straight up from the foot or slightly backward? by backward i could mean behind your back toward your other clipper to make the osis turn easier. Also by back i could mean that the bag travels backwards but not behind your back. Are any of those three options right? I spend a lot of time every session on osii and while I can hit somewhere like 10-15 contacts of osis>ss clip>rpt, I have a real problem with roll-off that I can't seem to resolve.

Then what? oh yeah I worked my fairy and atomic sets again. and ducking/diving. New ducking clipper record: 5. So that was good.

Life in general is going OK. I'm trying to get to NYJ with Doug Tank and Chris Dean and as soon as we may find some lodging, it's certain. I definitely have the money after a work paycheck that's been getting bigger for two months and finally came. Maybe sell some footbags for some extra cash too.

classes are doing well, there's only like two.five weeks left in the semester and it's all coming to a head. I'm trying to play every day for at least an hour and I know that will be difficult as it gets toward finals because my mechanics class is driving me crazy. a week ago things just straight stopped making sense. As soon as we got into the bending equations and graphing stresses of beams. Yuck

Hi Ian. I'm no expert on osis but I try to set straight for it. I think it makes it a lot easier to know where the bag is during the blind turn.

For NYJ, we have a suite reserved. There's plenty of space if you (or anyone) needs to crash there. $40/night. Hope you can make it out, it is the greatest.

agreed - set it straight up. About shoulder height. Stare at it. Think about punching it, but then just let it drop into an oasis of fun we call the osis.

if you are in town before the 26th and up for some shred then let me know. I'd really like to hack with someone before I go to LA. Not sure if or when I'll find people over there. My christmas present this year is the money to drive cross country with my brother but I'm sure a stocking stuffer could be permission to just get up and go to Rochester.
