Hey Sergey, good to hear something from you! We have active players in Sydney (5-6 players),Melbourne (around 10) and Hobart (around 5 players) and Australia is well regarded as a surfing destination. Along the east coast (where the footbag players are) there are plenty of spots, and people surf year round because although the water gets cold, its nowhere near what it must be like near where you live now :P

Daniel Boyle from Canberra bodyboards, and Andrew Grant will be living here next year and is into surfing too i believe.

So yeh, we have a big surfing culture here and a bunch of footbag players :D

How much surfing have you done? There are lots of great surfing spots around Tasmania although it's colder than the rest of Australia and probably a little more dangerous. I have lots of friends who surf though, including 2 of my housemates, so I'm sure they'd be happy to help. The cost of living in Tasmania is a lot better than most of the rest of Australia too :)

Head to oz man! It's the new footbag paradise, with foreigners from all over flocking to it. My self and Flavio are going to be in Australia in 2009, and Maxxx is staying indefinately. Surfing is also one of the reason's i'll be heading down, and i plan to do a fair bit of it while i'm there. Surf and shred, what do you say?

move to Australia.

The weather is warm, the water is nice, there's plenty of places to kick by the beach.

Hey!!!
I can't believe no one from santa cruz has commented!!!
The waters can get quite chilly, but the waves are pretty awesome.
There are a ton of awesome spots, I skimboard a bit and know tons of surfers. I went to University of California Santa Cruz and it is a really fun place too. I know Emily, Dustin, and Abe are all at UCSC now and the whole stanford crew is only 45 minutes away!!! California is amazing too.

Australia is a big country so it depends where you live. If you moved down to Hobart, which is both coolest city in the jazz sense and also temperature wise, in winter during the day it can get as cold as 5 degrees C. I think the lowest winter monthly average day time temp is 11 degrees though, so it's not too bad. In summer it can get up over 30 degrees.

Alternatively, if you decided to go to Sydney, which is the worst place in Australia, but better than all you're other options (I'm just trying to get you to move to Hobart, it's actually pretty good, and has iconic surf beaches like Bondi) then you're looking at winter temps of an average of 20 degrees and summer averages of around 30, but obviously with some days as cold as 10 and as hot as 40+.

Alternatively if you really like the heat you could move to Broome, where there are no footbaggers, but good surfing and an average winter daytime temperature of 29 degrees (it's pretty tropical so doesn't really have a winter, but there is a bit of a drop around July). When I finish my degrees, or at least the first two, I'm going to try and get a job there for a few years (or at least around the Kimberley).

here's the weather avergaes for Sydney all year round:

http://www.sydney.com.au/weather.htm

As you can see it's not exactly "cold" :)

also, here's a webcam pointed at the iconic Bondi Beach; Note that lts of people surf it but it's not even close to the best surfing spots Sydney (and Australia) has to offer.

edit: if you're a beginner surfer you probably want to avoid the large swells anyway ;)

Thanks alot to everyone, posted here.
I need some time to figure out all the information.
Emily (Moxie) from Santa Cruz has invited me there like a year ago, but i dont know if she still lives there...

I really want to move on Hawaii, and Yacine told that he can help me out there, that would be just perfect. (thanks for that call Ken)
But maybe i will visit all of those countries before i'll make my decision about moving

I still collect information and contacts...:)

I do still live here. The surfing culture is really wide spread in this area and has a long history here. Santa Cruz Surf Club History.

I live a block from the ocean right now but I'm not sure where I'll be living in 6 months. Either way, you should consider visiting. I'll make sure you have a place to stay. :-) The water is cold, but a wet suit takes care of that. We even have a few extra in a few different sizes if you need to borrow one.

Sergey!
Come to Australia!
You'll love it here. Yes, it's a big place and there's lots of options for you.
I have to throw in some good words for the north-eastern state - Queensland - "Beautiful one day - Perfect the next". The beaches and waves there are fantastic. The weather is sub-tropical/tropical. The people are friendly (well that's anywhere in Australia, really...).
Anyway, I know you have to a lot to consider and we seem a long way away, but I don't think I know of anyone who has regretted a visit or stay in Australia.
I'm not living by the beach at the moment, but I'll do anything I can to help you out and make life easier for you here.
And - here's a sweetener - if you make it here by the time the Australian Championships are on in April (Easter) - you might even take out the title

Glad you found Yacine. He's a great guy.

And Australia is worth a visit. You should go just to hang out with Caroline.

I go to school in Santa Cruz, and the Stanford Footbag Club is not far from here.
