Here is some free advice for everybody.

Basically 99.99% of emails you get that ask you to forward the email on to anybody are a hoax.

This "POSTCARD" virus - like every email I've ever received warning me of a virus, is not true. That's not to say you shouldn't worry about unsolicited attachments and links in emails, but don't be too concerned.

If it's not true, it's not true. I'm just warning people if it is.

That's what the internet if for.

I just got into an argument over religion with a retarded kid.

edit; and I don't mean that as insult, but I went to school with him, and he literally has serious "learning difficulties."

Trust me, there's all kinds of stuff that Microsoft labels as "very serious" that somebody could exploit if they knew about it. Its ridiculous. Usually those things (if MS becomes aware of them) will be fixed w/next round of auto-updates but sometimes MS pushes the fire alarm, because within the 24 or 48 hour period before patches are installed a lot of damage can be done. And there are other complications like if a server needs to be patched & rebooted that requires a lot more advanced coordination than a workstation or home pc being patched & rebooted.

That being said, users are responsible for most of their own problems. Don't open attachments from people you don't know. Don't run any .exes from any site that you don't trust. Know how to end an IE session if something tries to hijack it. Make a backup of your system in its pristine state. If some offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The basic advice I find myself giving over and over again: if you get yourself a Dell, and are willing to pay for software, and don't go anywhere you shouldn't be going, and don't open any strange attachments, you'll be fine. If you can't do this, you shouldn't have administrator privileges on your machine.

Unless you're using Vista. Then malware won't work (until you disable user account control), but neither will iTunes 8, Acrobat 8, VPN clients, etc etc etc... your programs won't work, but faster!

I'm running vista and also acrobat 8 and iTunes8. Every program I have tried to run on my computer has run, although a couple have needed patches for the software or updates for the os.

Or just run a Macintosh.

I have to add my two sense to this discussion... in over 4 years of running a Powerbook (Mac) I have never had a virus, spyware or spam-related problem. When I had a PC, these problems were pretty common. Viruses and the like are easy to deal with and not really a serious threat to people who understand how to use computers, but for the average user they can be horrendous. In my opinion, Macs are great computers and very user-friendly for the average user.

the average user has to be a real idiot not to know how to run windows without fucking it up.

how hard is it for people to think "hey maybe i should download a exe file from freemoviesandgames.com"

when you buy a mac you pay a lot money for a lot less power compared to a PC. anyone see the video where the mac OS booted faster on a dell then an actual mac computer? i dont know if the specs were the same, but i know ive made a post on here about the prices.

the only reason for people to get a mac is for video editing and photo editing, because i guess it has a more colorful screen. i dont even know if thats true but thats what i hear and can believe.

if you changed from a PC to a mac because "windows fucked up on you" it probably means your a moron and shouldn't be using a computer in the first place

all this is IMO

The only way you can get spyware or a virus nowadays is if you are a complete fucking moron. No exceptions.
