Memphis, TN: Dec. 31st to Jan. 4th

I'll be going to Memphis from Dec. 31st to Jan. 4th with a buddy of mine. We're going to watch our alma mater, East Carolina University, play in the Liberty Bowl against Kentucky on Jan. 2nd. I was wondering:

1) Does anyone live in Memphis that would like to meet up with us?

and if not

2) Has anyone ever been to Memphis, and what are some cool things to do there?
