And the line following that just sums it up:
'I dont really know about climate change.'
Great basis for an article.

Epic note from my housemate on facebook (there is something wrong with his head).
Wow some people take trivial things seriously! Hilarious though.
Im getting rid of facebook for good 4:07pm
I was going to send this as a message but would have to send it every single time. I realise some of you more than others but oh well where do you draw the line? You can know some for 10 yeras and not be good mates, im talking shit and you get the drill
Im getting rid of my facebook cos I feel like my life’s going nowhere and Im sick of ‘being friends’ (on facebook) with people who I never talk to or who never talk to me. Im sick of fucking getting added by people, but then the very next day these same very ppl won’t talk to me if I see them in the street. Im sick of being friendly to people who aren’t really your friends but you’re nice to them or ‘friends’ with them on facbook. I can’t handle seeing on facebook ppl hanging out with other ppl who i want to be hanging out with or getting jealous of these places ppl are visiting - it just makes me compare myself with others and makes me feel like a loser and that im not achieving enough in life. Furthermore, it just plays with my mind how i see ppl who i havn’t seen in years and i can’t cope with that. Basically, I would rather have 2 good mates than 200 ppl who I get on with, because you can’t really tell these 200 ppl (at the end of the day) what you really think and feel – who can be fucked to do that.
I know Im not very wise and profound about life’s great mysteries but ive realised that Ive got change my whole perceptions of life. Basically, I’ve been hiding for about the past 6 years cos I couldn’t cope with the fact that Jesus wasn’t coming back (yes I used to think he was, its not my fault my parents brought me up to go to church) and that life wasn’t all hunky dory cos I thought it was after being dux and Head Prefect at Queechy high School – thats gotta be a world record.
Anways, I genuinely like most of my ‘friends’ from all over the world (England, Deutchland, India, france, Iran, Launceston, gayland) and at the end of the day i don’t care about what you believe, whether you’re a slut, athesist, Christian, homo, Muslim, jock, nerd, Lebanese or male, female, rich black, white, sexy, Aboriginal, Chinese, English, Italian brown ugly etc etc BUT I AM sick of ppl getting in the way of my life and my happiness – its a bit cheesy but I want to be myself.
The reality is that I’ll never see many of you again and I cant really cope with that (for the ppl i miss) and I don’t have the strength or multiple personalities to do this. And Im sick of being subtly manipulated and feeling trapped by nice ppl as well as kunts. So... to those of who i like or are genuine great people, God bless (sorry if you’re an atheist or whatever – not really) hope you keep safe. To those I don’t like or are scum, go and get fucked and i hope you die (hmm is that bit harsh maybe ill reserve that for scummers, but may God be merciful on us all – i actually want to find out if i believe in God on my own 2 feet as its more my parents beliefs.
Basically, Im not going to hide anymore and I really don’t give a flying fuck what anyone thinks of me regardless of who you are so goodbye. My address is 344 Sandy Bay Road, Hobart, Tasmania Australia 7005 if anyone wants to send me a line

Epic events last night. So at 3am my housemate wakes me up and mumbles something about my other housemate's brother and then says; "If I don't come back call the police." He leaves my room and yells out; "Ok you better leave now because Jeremy is calling the police."
By this stage I'm wide awake but still have no idea what's going on. The housemate's brother who I think has been mentioned is 6'8" and goes to the gym a lot too. It seems possibly that he's wandered in while drunk and is annoying Macca (the housemate who woke me up). I consider calling the housemate whose brother is terrorising Macca, or the police. I also consider waking up my other housemate, who is 6'7" and works behind a bar, so might be able to help. I decide the police is probably the best option.
However in the minute or two while all this goes through my head, all I hear is the footsteps of Macca going upstairs and then a door opening and closing. 5 minutes later he hasn't come back but I haven't heard any noise either. I decide to ignore Mac's command and investigate instead. I cautiously creep up the stairs and check the lounge room and kitchen. No sign of life there. The house is pretty still and quiet now and it appears that whoever was here has left. I move down the corridor to Macca's room and knock on the door. He's in bed and I ask if everything is ok. "Yeah," he says. "I just had a dream that there were two guys in my room trying to stab me."
I laugh and then ask; "But you said to call the police if you didn't come back."
He nods. "Sorry about that."

So my last modified post for 2008. See you all in the New Year!
In order to circumvent page stretching, this post will look a bit like a Dan Ednie post lol.
I could get a mod to fix it, but it is hilarious and I guess I deserve it too.
Just got back from a 5 day bushwalk across central Tasmania, part of which is supposed to be the best walk in Australia. Was lots of fun.
Hard work though, but it seems the older I get the more I appreciate nature and the world outside humanity.
I took a lot of photos so I'll post some up eventually.
Also the last day was especially fun as when we got to the end of the walk I smoked a nice Cuban cigar (Punch) and then bumped into one of my best friend's older brother and his friends.
They had just turned back from a planned rafting trip due to the poor weather and we drank a bottle of Jagermeister and a bottle of Dom Benedictine while waiting for the ferry.
Good times, and it was a trip worth celebrating.
5 days walking in near solitude is a good chance to think and I did a lot of thinking about my life and where it's headed, as well as the world.
2008 was a good year for me, and I think 2009 will be even better. I guess I'm starting to get things on track and have some direction in life, which is good.
I guess something I want to do is build on my discipline and self control. Clive Hamilton says that we're not really free unless we use our freedom to choose not to do things. I agree.
That's why I'm going to start playing footbag every day again, even though I guess that sounds like doing something rather than not doing things.
I am free to sit around doing nothing, smoking cones or drinking beer, playing video games or watching shit TV programs, but I'm going to choose not to do that.
Or at least I'm going to choose to not do it as much. It's not that I don't enjoy those things, but I want to be more productive.
Not that playing footbag every day is very productive - certainly it would be easy to see it as a selfish and even hedonistic pursuit, but it's really about the discipline.
If I'm making myself play every day then I'll also find it much easier to do the other things in my life that I want to be doing more.
2008 was fun times, parties and hangovers. 2009 will still have all of those, but it will have hard work too, and I think that's what I missed in 2008.
So Happy New Year Modified.
I know we haven't seen eye to eye on a lot of issues, and many of you have a different idea of the what this forum is to me, but I want you to know that whatever I say on the forum, I still appreciate reading your posts and they are Modified.
New Years, like most "special days," is really an abstract event and more sentimentality than anything else. Still there is no reason not to reflect on the past year and think about the next one.
It's probably human nature.

So had a short session today to keep up with my new year's resolution. Was feeling very sore and hung over, so didn't play for long and mainly just tried to hit long easy runs
.
Had a good new years. May have a girlfriend, so that's good.
My housemates got back from a big music festival today. Hilarious stuff. One of them drank a bottle of whisky and completely passed out. The police and ambulance people put on a stretcher and took him off to the medical tent, and also searched all his stuff for drugs (the cops were sure he was on drugs). He woke up 13 hours later, refused to give the medical people his name and then picked up his clothes and ran out.
The same guy made an impromptu decision today to run in a marathon on Sunday. No training, smokes a pack a day, will almost certainly be hung over on the day. Going to be pretty hilarious. Very HST - Curse of Lono esq. I thought about making a big sign that says; "Nuclear War: Race Cancelled" to get into the spirit.

Solid 1 hr session.
Did "Czech style" drilling. Just drifter, whirl and blender (components).
Felt ok but heaps of room for improvement. Don't think I hit anything new.
Trying to be super disciplined which in this case involved stopping after an hour despite wanting to play on, which I guess is good.
It's possible we'll have a 6 person circle tomorrow at the markets, which would be pretty sweet.
Realistically I think we'll have 3 though. Only Lotus and I are confirmed.

Had a really good kick yesterday with Lotus and Brian.
We decided to not play until 3, which was good because the Taste was on and that meant a million people milling around getting drunk and obnoxious.
So we managed to kind of miss lots of them and found a pretty secluded spot too.
Lotus is so fun to play with. It's awesome having him in Hobart again.
Speaking of which, I'm now boycotting the WFA because they refuse to sell products to Lotus. I will send them an abusive email and explain why.
Not that it's a great loss to their business since I'm sure they only sell to noobs anyway and I don't buy much there, but it makes me angry anyway.
I worked a lot on blenders during the kick.
My normal blenders are coming on well but my flip pdx blender feels wrong.
I don't really know what the problem is but I managed to make it feel a bit better.
Actually I think I twist rather than hoping across and I don't lift my leg up to start the dex early enough.
Maybe I should film it.
Had an epic night.
It seems all nights are epic at the moment. I think I've been hangover every day this year.
I smoked my first ever cigarette and then threw up, but managed to convince the bouncer that the reason I threw up was because of smoking my first ever cigarette.
Probably not true at all, given we had a bottle of port and a few beers before leaving, and then about 8 shots with pints of beer chasers for each one.
I was drinking with my housemate who is 6'7" and I shouldn't try to keep up with him, although I do.
The bouncer has often seen me play footbag and loves it, so that's probably why he let me in.
Anyway good times. I'm going to try and avoid alcohol for a while though.

It's not that I don't love alcohol any more, it's just that we want different things and I think it's best if we have a break from each other, although no doubt we'll hook up every time we see each other still - which will be Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. I just think that we need a little more space. It was a mistake in the relationship to move in together.
Anyway had another good session today. That makes 6 days in a row now, so pretty good. I like these 1hr sessions as I still feel fresh and energetic afterwards. Things were feeling fairly tight and solid so that's good.
Haven't been working on anything difficult but managed to hit haze bsos first attempt, ripped warrior bsos. Some other stuff. Certainly I've hit those things before years and years ago but it's also probably years since I've hit them so it's good. Largely I just do long runs drilling a particular component - so like if I'm drilling torques (which I did a little of tonight), I'll just try to hit runs with as many torque related moves as possible, and hitting them multiple times, usually starting easy and working up (this is sort of a variant on "czech drilling").
I'm pretty sure I broke the pixie world record in my warm up, but I wasn't counting so all I can claim is that it was just over 4 minutes of pixies - as it was the first thing I did warming up and I started when the song started and looked at the time when I finished - so I'm guessing around 250 to 300. SS mirage style of course.

Czech drilling is just hitting long runs of only the component you're working on, or mainly the component you're working on. You see it in all those old televich (or whatever they were called) videos, and also that's what Ales would do when he was here. I'm not sure if you were there, but I recall a 2 hour session where the only moves he hit were swirls or infinities - ie. every single run was swirl>swirl>swirl>infinity>swirl>swirl>infinity>swirl>infinity>swirl>swirl>infinity>swirl>swirl>swirl>swirl etc. I think there was the odd infinity swirl in there as well. At the end of the session Dan said something like; "Ok don't do any more swirls this week!"
It's just drilling a component without hitting a repeatative combo I guess. So not just hitting swirl>infinity repeat over and over - but just shredding where you're only really trying to hit variations of the component you're working on.
Make sense? Probably not

False. Did you watch the last test?
5 days of cricket and the result happens with 10 balls left to go. South Africa's worst batsman faces more balls than he's ever faced in an innings before. South Africa's captain bats with a broken hand to try and save the game. Even sitting at work reading the ball by ball commentary on cricinfo, it was so epic.

The Australia vs South Africa test match that finished yesterday.
The impressive thing is that almost 2700 balls were bowled and it came down to Australia needing 1 wicket with 2 overs to go to win.
That and how well Nitini batted and Smith coming out with a broken hand.
Anyway saw Religulous today. Fucking awesome. Treats religion how it should be treated - with ridicule, scorn and derision. Bill Mayer (and Christopher Hitchens) are the anti-religious people who meet the description painted by the religious apologists of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett.
Of course very few religious people will even watch a movie like this, and those that do will find very minor and trivial mistakes and use those to discredit the whole thing without attempting to address the real issues that he brings up - just as we see with Dawkins, and indeed with people like Michael Moore or Al Gore.
Religion is a virus that retards humanity and offers nothing good or positive that cannot also be obtained rationally.

So I read this article today;
http://richarddawkins.net/article,3497, ... y-Guardian
It's terrible and full of holes, misunderstandings and logical fallacies, which I'd be happy to point out if anybody wants to know what they are.
Anyway I sent him an email to tell him what I thought, which I do quite regularly to many journalists and politicians. Here is my letter;
And here is his reply;
Hilarious! Not only does he have no idea what he's talking about but he doesn't understand the meaning of the words he uses either.
I'm considering writing him a reply like this;
"Dear Tom,
Thank you for your informative reply.
I was very concerned to hear that scientists are "quite literally misleading people." Where are the people being led to and do they have any way of getting home from this place? Have you considered calling the police? It sounds very serious, although obviously leading people around isn't the job of scientists. Perhaps these people should employ tour guides to lead them instead. I think that would probably also be a lot cheaper.
Kind regards,
etc. "

Dear Thomas,
I found your opinion piece about science and the teaching of creationism rather surprising, especially given your qualifications. Surely school science should teach just science. It should offer no meaningful comment on anything outside of the field of science. Creationism is not science. I concede that some form of it is theoretically possible, but it's still not science and has no value in a science class. Science classes should not, and at least in my experience do not teach that creationism is wrong. They just don't teach it because it's not science. Likewise Shakespeare and Nelson Mandela and the Russian Revolution are not taught in science classes even though they are interesting subjects that may interest many students.
Kind regards,
And here is his reply;
Dear Jeremy, thanks for your message. your point is certainly reasonable but the main point of my letter was not to argue so much for creationism (the headline was entirely the choice of the paper, not me) but to point out that when, even restricting discussion to science, scientists have not been forthcoming at all into why the Big Bang happened - that is the very foundation of all that happens later. by not focusing on the 'main event' that is inexplicable, they are quite literally misleading people on how much they really understand. and the basis of their argument, baldly stated, is that understand enough to not require some kind of God to provide an explanation for their facts. fair enough - if you start after the big bang, not fair at all if you have no idea what really started the whole business - creation of matter/energy.
in a sense they have erected a castle in the air, without a real foundation -- something by the way which is totally unallowable in mathematical proofs, where the foundation is literally essential for all else that follows.
my additional comments were in a sense add-ons.
I am not advocating teaching creationishm in science classes - I am advocating that it cannot be deriseively dismissed with respects to the origin of the universe.
enough, thanks again, tom crowley

Were you talking about the third test? Didnt South Africa win the other two tests, rendering the third a meaningless test, no more then an exhibition game? If South Africa, batting on the last day and being down by alot of runs had just blocked every ball it would have be called a draw? 2700 balls and all you have to do is not make any attempt to score and you get a draw. Didnt Australia win by 112 runs?
