Greetings footbaggers

As a bright start for the year 2009 in footbag a new online forum has been created. Our mission is to further the state of footbag by creating an efficient enviroment to help the projects, ideas and innovations that well established members of the community have.
LikeWater is a closed forum an membership is invitational only. This is because we want to prevent encounters and everyone contributes with their real name, which ensures that the the atmosphere stays friendly and inspiring.
We are not creating an elitist community to surpass footbag.org or modified.in, the topics discussed on LikeWater consist such as competition rules, training methods, player recruiting, etc. There is no "kicking circle" or blogs or any chit-chat. There is no overlapping discussion that would be taken away from any other forum.
The whole community will benefit from this forum. The research work that is done on LikeWater will be handed on to the rest of the community.
All the results from our work will be posted on Modified under this account, by the moderators of LikeWater.

I hope you'll at least be releasing important anecdotes on the forums for "the rest of us". I'm particularly interested in training methods.

Cant we at least be able to view it, without posting? If only the select players are invited to use it, then how will the entire community benefit? The best players arent the only ones who want to learn about training programs and the like. I think this is a good idea, but the common players should have access to it as well.

Judging from the already selected members listed on the first post, it looks like this community has a pretty good amount of potential. Have you enlisted Matt Kemmer and Zac Miley? They were testing a new judging system recently at last year's Chicago NYJ.

This is precisely the idea! The entire point of discussion on Likewater will be to 'release' the result of discussion, research and basic trial and error to the community.

We feel that at the moment, the raw / rough discussion that will be had wont be entirely useful to the community. We are aware that there will be valuable opinions that the community will want to read on this site, and that is exactly why we will organize it for everyone. We want to make more professional gathering of ideas and thoughts, and release our ideas as a very adaptable and useful guide for anyone who is willing to learn.

I don't want to be too negative here, or obstruct a potentially good idea, but...

We've had these sorts of things before; secret and/or invitation-only forums in order to have "serious discussions" about freestyle... rules changes, what direction the sport should go, etc etc. In my estimation, not much has really come from those sorts of discussions before. That doesn't mean we can't do better this time around, but... I already know Anz and I don't see eye-to-eye on a number of issues... Anz and I, Jorden and I, Eli and I, "just-about-everybody" and I... sigh...

Its tough being the outsider...

My 2 cents is to leverage the organization and resources that already exist. We already have an IFPA, that has a rules committee

How about trying to get involved with that? Why are you re-creating the wheel?

We have two new positions open up on the IFPA board of directors, this year people actually ran against the incumbents this time. (way to step up Wiktor and Shrednie!). How come none of the people in this new org want to get involved?

You are saying you don't want it to be "elitist" but you are choosing your members based on level of game skill, rather than past track record and ability to do work and make decisions. Do you think worlds happens every year because Vasek can shred like a madman? No it happens because people who in the sport, not necessarily the most talented at the game are out there busting their ass.

Good luck to you, but it would be nice to see people getting involved in the IFPA camp before trying to go out and recreate everything on their own.

Interesting concept.

Beware of those who say that you don't speak for all of footbag though. I know at least a couple of the orginizers well enough to respect their opinions on matters important to footbag, but many people may not beleive that a closed community is a way to create new ideas in what has always been an open, community based sport.

I however completely support it, and thank those willing to come up with new ideas and concepts for those of us who may have to much else going on in their lives to always be thinking about footbag.

This is not true. Then I would definitely not have been invited. We have also invited a lot of people for other reasons than their shred skills. Big organizers, shopowners, videomakers, etc.

This place is not only to propose new rules. And it's definitely not to choose what rules should be used. We have ifpa for that. It is also made to get feedback on videos, articles, tutorials, websites and other projects before putting them out to the entire community.
