:lol: That's pretty great.

I found this gem in Jeremy's blog. In reference to a movie he saw, he makes this observation:
Jeremy wrote: Of course very few religious people will even watch a movie like this, and those that do will find very minor and trivial mistakes and use those to discredit the whole thing without attempting to address the real issues that he brings up -.
A good observation: its lame when people resort to debating trivial mistakes as a means of avoiding addressing the real issues.

Then, a few posts later he talks about an email exchange he is having with somebody he disagrees with:
Jeremy wrote:So I read this article today...

Anyway I sent him an email to tell him what I thought, which I do quite regularly to many journalists and politicians. Here is my letter;
Dear Thomas,

I found your opinion piece about science and the teaching of creationism rather surprising, especially given your qualifications. Surely school science should teach just science. It should offer no meaningful comment on anything outside of the field of science. Creationism is not science. I concede that some form of it is theoretically possible, but it's still not science and has no value in a science class. Science classes should not, and at least in my experience do not teach that creationism is wrong. They just don't teach it because it's not science. Likewise Shakespeare and Nelson Mandela and the Russian Revolution are not taught in science classes even though they are interesting subjects that may interest many students.
,

And here is his reply;
Dear Jeremy, thanks for your message. your point is certainly reasonable but the main point of my letter was not to argue so much for creationism (the headline was entirely the choice of the paper, not me) but to point out that when, even restricting discussion to science, scientists have not been forthcoming at all into why the Big Bang happened - that is the very foundation of all that happens later. by not focusing on the 'main event' that is inexplicable, they are quite literally misleading people on how much they really understand. and the basis of their argument, baldly stated, is that understand enough to not require some kind of God to provide an explanation for their facts. fair enough - if you start after the big bang, not fair at all if you have no idea what really started the whole business - creation of matter/energy.

in a sense they have erected a castle in the air, without a real foundation -- something by the way which is totally unallowable in mathematical proofs, where the foundation is literally essential for all else that follows.

my additional comments were in a sense add-ons.

I am not advocating teaching creationishm in science classes - I am advocating that it cannot be deriseively dismissed with respects to the origin of the universe.

enough, thanks again, tom crowley

Hilarious! Not only does he have no idea what he's talking about but he doesn't understand the meaning of the words he uses either.

I'm considering writing him a reply like this;

"Dear Tom,

Thank you for your informative reply.

I was very concerned to hear that scientists are "quite literally misleading people." Where are the people being led to and do they have any way of getting home from this place? Have you considered calling the police? It sounds very serious, although obviously leading people around isn't the job of scientists. Perhaps these people should employ tour guides to lead them instead. I think that would probably also be a lot cheaper.

Kind regards,

etc. "

Wow, quote mining in an attempt to ridicule somebody. Not an immature thing to do at all.

For the record, I clearly stated in the same post the following;
Jeremy wrote:It's terrible and full of holes, misunderstandings and logical fallacies, which I'd be happy to point out if anybody wants to know what they are.
C-Fan wrote:its lame when people resort to debating trivial mistakes as a means of avoiding addressing the real issues.

Why did you chose to skip out the part where I said I'm happy to address the actual issues he discussed? Is it because it stops my two posts from being contradictory? Am I in fact actually debating anything in my blog? What am I debating and with who? In what way do I need to address the real issues?

Perhaps you failed to understand the criticism I was making. In the first post you quoted I'm not referring to people making jokes and making light of the movie. I'm talking about people attempting to make serious criticisms of it based on trivial issues. My joke at the incorrect use of the word "literally" was not an attempt at a serious rebuttal and that's why I said I was "considering" sending him that reply - which was indeed facetious because I'd never send something like that to anybody who I had engaged in serious discussion - rather than actually sent it to him.

I know you think you're really clever etc. but it would be nice if you could at least attempt to be slightly mature.

For everybody else let me ask an easy question. How many times have I gone out of my way to attack Ken - in a genuine or fallacious manner? I hate the way this is viewed as a conflict between the two of us where we're both at fault, where my fault is responding to his attacks while his fault is starting them.

Wait, you put my post in here, but not Adam's video where the guy inhales his own flatulence through a tube??? (Two posts above mine)

Anyway, it's just some chick from 4Chan, but like she's got this wild story where she actually was contacted by some organization and threatened and all that, she's kind of become an internet phenom/meme. I personally think the mixes were well done even if she's super annoying and ditsy.

I don't know if you're shaming me for posting it, the vids, or Boxxy herself, but it doesn't matter. I'll never understand the Martian forum that is modified anyway. Cheers.
