Laver Modding!

I just bought these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007QMO7E
( The green originals , not the bright green laced ones or the greyish blue looking ones ) in size 10. I'm pretty new to footbag ( like .. 2 weeks into it ) and I was wondering if I should keep the lavers unmodded, or mod them.
If I should mod them, what needs to be done? I've heard of the toe box mod where you cut the stitches from the toe area and the flaps with the eyelets to separate the flaps from the toe. I also saw this picture in the post your shoes thread

Apparently, he's cut the first 2 eyelets off from his shoe to keep the footbag from catching when you do freestyle ( I'm guessing..? ). Should I do that?

at this point in your footbag career NO! the reason being once you go to learn pixie and fairy sets you will rely on the bag being able to roll right off the toe rather than clearing the walls that are there when you dont do that mod

just cut the toe box stitches and if you want remove the canvas underlayer,

also i would recommend searching using the search feature this topic, i recently at least glanced at every thread back to page 33 or so in the bags and equipment sub forum and there are at least four laver mod topics, you should be able to use the wealth of knowledge

Have fun modding your lavers, but dont go overboard with it, thats just my two cents

please promise me you're not going to turn into one of those brand new posters who doesn't read anything that already exists, and asks 2000 questions that have already been answered.

Read through the thread in the Beginner's forum called "I'm new, what should I do first?" or something like that, it's at the top of the beginner's forum.

then, watch the video I posted in your last thread.

If reading those two threads don't answer your current set of questions, post more questions AFTER YOU READ THEM.

How do I dissolve the glue holding the 2 layers together?

Soak them in warm water for 15-20 minutes. This should remove the glue enough to allow you to seperate the layers. Thats what I did and it worked fine for me.

Also, I cut off my first eyelet when I first got my lavers and just laced them normally and it seems to be working out but I agree with HippieTom learn you fairy and pixie sets first.

Did you put them in the dryer after you soaked them? Or did you cut them wet.. lol

you could always try forcing a butter knife inbetween the layers and separateing them that way haha
or a hair dryer

I just let them air dry for about an hour then I cut them. Just make a little slit in the mesh and go deeper until your about to hit the under-layer. Then take a butter knife and push it in there and move it around the mesh until it seperates then cut it off.

Awesome, it worked. I slit the mesh just enough to get a butter knife under there, and then separated the mesh from the cottony crap, and cut the mesh around the borders of the inside/toe. It looks really good for my first time modding a shoe

Glad it worked. Those inside surfaces make clippers and inside stalls a lot easier. You will definetly see an improvement in your game, I know I did. Good luck!

. Did you cut the mesh off on the part of the shoe where you would do an outside kick?

No. I don't use the outside of the shoe enough to justify cutting that off. The inside and toe are the only things that you will really use.
