So I managed to manipulate a small bag using only my legs and feet today... Oh and I played some footbag too.
So yeah, Chicago was a lot of fun. It was great to finally meet a lot of west coast players and all the CIC guys. They're all really nice and sooo funny. Thanks to everyone who made it possible. I feel like Tom K and Scott Davidson did the majority of the work so extra thanks to them. I would do a whole write-up and whatnot but the time has passed and it's all a wee bit fuzzy. Guess I partied too much during the pre pre new years eve party, pre new years eve party, new years eve party, post new years eve party and post post new years eve party.....
So a quick synopsis: who can forget the car ride there... Oh the Red Roof Inn and all of it's icy glory. The hotel shred and ustreaming. Finally getting to the event site and finally meeting/shredding with a bunch of West coasters/Chicagonites such as Reid, "O-IN", Chris, Jeff, John, Evan, Ben, Julian, Mathieu, Grant, Tom K, Nathan, and everyone! It was good to see some familiar faces such as Danny, Zac, Ken and others as well! I think some of my favorite moments were footbag golf (that was new to me and A LOT of fun), listening to a lot of Johns conversations, specifically with that girl who he thought lived in the same building as him... the flashlight on the ceiling and just hanging out in the CIC suite and the shred room at night. Then the ride home was pretty fun too. I listened to all of Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood while driving home.... key word: "listened" b/c we set up Matt's computer to the car speakers while Matt and Tom watched the movie in the back so Ian and I just listened to the whole thing.... It was awesome.
And of course thanks to Matt C, Tom M, Chris D, and Ian for traveling with me and making the whole trip possible and even more fun!
Anyhway, I'm back at school now. Have been for the last week and a half. Still searching for a job. Interviewed about a week ago and haven't heard anything yet.... Looking kinda bleak there. I still have two more places to interview so hopefully one of those places doesn't care that I'm shy and don't have much to say.
Ugh, I hate interviewing so much. It seems like all engineering contractors are jocks.... and I'm not. I play footbag and juggle. I almost feel like I need to start watching football just to get a freaking job.
Aw well, I'm sure something will come along soon enough.
So, session today. I mostly just drilled my downtime game for an hr and a half. I want it to be good enough so I can hit (toe) whirl>dlo>drifter>barrage>rpt in just a few tries. In my attempt to work up to this I spent a good half hour of the session trying to hit all four tricks bsos in one string. I footed the last dlo at one point and the rest of the attmepts I dropped on something stupid after hitting half the tricks. I finally got fed up and decided, "Okay, last attempt, and fuck doing all the tricks spread out from one another." I then proceeded to hit the last highlight.
highlights:
-drifter>pdx mirage>rpt 10+ contacts bs
-whirl>pdx mirage>rpt 12+ contacts
-ss whirl>dlo>rpt>string
-whirl>pdx mirage>drifter>pdx illusion>rpt>string
-drifter>whirl>dlo>rpt>string with barrage bsos>footing mobius>pick up bag>clipper>mobius>hand seal
It felt good to hit mobius pretty easily. That and ps whirl are probably the two most footbaggish tricks in my opinion and to be able to hit both of them is so amazing. I dream about hitting both tricks bsos in the same string some day. Anywho, this post turned out a lot longer than I anticipated which sucks cuz now no ones gonna read it, so I guess I'm just going to have to make the main reason I'm even posting a little bit more explicit....
Everyone come to the Boston Jam at the end of April!!!!
...Seriously, it's gonna be pretty bagtastic.
Peace

I WAS planning on getting pretty shwasted last night but since my friend decided to bail on me I ended up playing instead.... and filming it. I really only filmed this session cuz I wanted to edit something and my night clearly had no direction so that's why the shred is pretty tedious and sloppy... then again maybe that's just how I always play.

Yes both gyro illusions are super clean, and that's why I say "bsos" in that bizzare sounding voice.
I still have enough footage for another video but it'll prolly be just as junky.... but I have a lot of free time so I'll prolly edit it and post another little video of mostly bigger moves and junk tomorrow.
Peace

hahaha doug despite being disgruntled at yourself, in the three weeks or so since I've seen you, you do seem to have gotten better. there were some surprising links in there for me. Don't get too aggravated with the game, you don't want to get too burned out on it. I'll be getting a camera in the mail soon. Maybe I'll start filming as well, though I won't be playing much in the next few months because of snowboarding. Sorry.

Thanx Pat. I actually hit the whole combo but I thought the reaction for that attempt was more appropriate for the video.
Haha, thanx Ian but I don't think I could ever get burned out on footbag. That's cool that you're getting a camera. Maybe you can film some snowboard stuff.
Whatever Pete, these hips don't lie..... yeah I said it.
Here's the extra footage from that same session. Now I know that I'm incapabale of doing the song in this video justice, but I just felt so compelled to use it because of a few select clips.
EDIT: Ok so youtube is having one of its "moods" and won't upload my other video. I went to vimeo but it said it would only allow me to upload a file of 500mb or less and my file is about 600mb so unless there's some way to bypass that I guess I'll try youtube another time and see if it feels like cooperating....

Aw man, I can almost taste that barfly sauce... and it smells oh so good.
So yeah, I didn't actually bsos the dam trick but i footed it bsos several times. Luckily paradons are getting easier as a result so I'm bsosing that with slightly more ease. I ended up hitting paradon>blur bs and in doing so realized just how much I need to stall my clippers.... for every trick. I have a very rushed style and it is terrible for my game. Luckily in practicing double downs I'm kinda breaking that habit. Idk exactly what I did differently but I finally managed to hit:
-drifter>barrage>whirl>dlo>rpt>drifter>long ass bop-filled string
Anywho, this felt really controlled and if I could make myself play like that all the time then I think I could really improve my game.
Anyhway, I didn't wanna post until I'd hit barfly bsos but since I finally hit that drill I thought of over 6 months ago, I figured it was worth the post. I guess you could say that drill is like a "benchmark" to me or something.... not like I'm good enough to hit on command or anything, just that it feels really good to reach a goal that at one time seemed all but impossible.
Peace

That is some damn fine sauce. Both barflies were exceptionally thin if not the but that's okay, it's such a rewarding feeling trick to hit.
Anyway took yesterday off and I think that helped a lot. I worked on spinning stuff today and hit spinning osis b2b after way too many tries, and I guess that helped to prepare me to hit spinning ducking osis bsos, which is really cool cuz it's rare that I can throw a 5 midstring, and even rarer to throw it bsos.
Anywho wile footing spinning osis b2b an ungodly amount of times I decided to take a break and try my hand at nuclear. I'm assuming if anyone's reading this than you know my game, and you know that atomic is not my strong point so than what the hell would cause me to even attempt nuclear?! Idk, but I did. And I kinda figured it out. I had a few chest high sets and one up to my neck which made me smile really big.
I only ended up hitting matador bs but I was estatic with that.
After understanding nuclear a little better I thought about doing the same thing with atomic that I did to hit nuclear, and needless to say I was able to hit legbeater bsos and atomsmasher b2b. I always forget just how much the upper body plays a role in setting. Also, from nuclear I thought about stepping and managed a bunch of super high stepping sets. AHHH, there's so much stuff I want/need to practice! I really wish I could play longer but unfortantly the people below me get pissed if I play after 9 and start banging on the ceiling.
Footbag rules.
Peace

...I didn't hit atomsmasher x3
I did however hit:
-toe grifter>pdx mirage>drifter>pdx illusion>string
-grifter from clipper (felt super clean, but who knows)
-gyro clip x16 (bah, I know I can get 20)
I also worked a bitt on stepping and was able to hit parkwalk>ripwalk>blur>rpt again. Felt pretty easy too, which was cool. I ended the session with ripwalk x5 twice. I think I'm gonna try and end each sesion with b2b ripwalks to try and strengthen stepping. Anyway, good session. I'm really amped for this weekend and beyond amped for next. Tomorrow should be a good way to start it off since my boss is out all day so I can take it kinda easy. Sweet.

So uh... solo session....
-gyro clip>spin duck clip>rpt>gyro clip>string
-(spin clip x3>gryo clip x3>rpt)>osis>(duck clip>spin clip>rpt)>(duck clip>dive clip>rpt)>(gyro clip>dive clip>rpt)>string with dyno>duck clip bsos>drop on spinning rake
-paradon>drifter bsos
-paradon barrage bsos
-barfly bsos 3 times
-blurriest
-blurriest>ripwalk
The best thing about this session was that it was only about an hour long and the last 10-15 minutes were spent practicing b2b ripwalks. I ended with ripwalk x7>nearly roll ankle>"fuck!">sit down>"still fuck">hop over to freezer and get ice pack and sit back down icing ankle.
I'm just really really thankful I stopped myself before completely destroying my ankle since I plan to shred with Ian in VT this Sunday.
Haha, it seems like I usually manage to injure myself playing footbag the day before going on a long bus ride.

Thanx John and Pete. My ankle did heal after a few days rest, but now my other ankle's starting to act up.
So I've been playing for an 1-1.5 hrs the past several days and here's what I got from earlier tonight.
-spinning ducking butter bsos
-diving gyro clipper
-diving drifter
-gyro barrage... bsos.
That was the first time I've ever attempted gyro barrage on either side. I'll need some second hand confirmation on cleanliness. I don't think either was the but I also don't think either one was super clean.
Ugh every time I feel like I start to really progress something fucks up. My left foot has a sharp pain near the back of the heel and my right ankle just started giving me guff at the end of this session and Idk why.
Maybe I'll take tomorrow off... maybe.
Peace

So the Boston Jam has come and gone.... I can't remember the last time my face hurt from laughing and smiling so much.
Needless to say, the beantown throwdown was a lot of fun. It was great to see a bunch of familiar faces and actually get to know some people who I had only been acquainted to prior to the jam. This was the first tournament that I actually felt good enough footbag-wise to play with some of the better players in the sport. For instance, when people showed up Friday night I asked if anyone wanted to play and nobody seemed all that interested but then Ianek looked at me and was like "Sure, I'll play" and for a split second I thought, "Fuck, he's really good" but luckily I was able to put that out of my head and just have a lot of fun playing.
Man... Ianek is ridiculously good. The first night I played with him he hit motion>barfly>rpt, swivel b2b, some cool motor tricks, and a bunch of other really unusual and difficult looking tricks. I felt really guilty the next day at competition though cuz I could tell he wasn't playing at the top of his game and figured it was b/c of the session the night before.
I felt even worse after causing a huge upset in rippin run finals when Ianek dropped on his first or second trick. I'd much rather have an exciting 30+ second rippin run battle and lose than win due to a silly mistake by my opponent.... I was however extremely proud of myself for hitting my sick 3 in competetion. I'd only attempted it a handful of tries before so i figured I had a fair chance of hitting it given four tries. Not only did I hit it but I also hit another sick 3 that I kinda came up with on the spot, so that was really cool.
I'm not even gonna talk about circle mostly out of respect for the judges and the fact that Idk how to judge. I figure they have their reasons for making the decisions they did. Idk, maybe I just need to see the footage, everything happens so fast when your actually competing.
Anyway, enough about boring competitions, the best part of the tournament was chilling out Friday and Saturday night. It was awesome to finally play pass the pigs after hearing all about it at other events and whatnot. On my first turn I racked up 40 points (play to 100) and thought, "wow, this game's not gonna take long" but on my next role I got 0 and lost all my points, so I figured "okay, I'll just chill out at when I get around 30 points next turn".... I ended up with 7 points at the end of the game.
Foosball would have been fun if Pete's table wasn't so crappy.
I totally would have won if it weren't for god dam Rodriguez... never passing to him again.
Saturday night was cool too. Before heading to the party at Fran's place Ian, Toolan and I went back to my apartment to shower and stuff. Mike's such a great dude to just chill with. Other than that he is miserable, good-for-nothing, drug peddling, seal poaching, environment polluting, devil worshiping, book reading, pushcart lovemaking, pig passing jerkwad! Oh, and his barrages are "the" too.
At the party Ian and I totally kicked ass in pong. And by kick ass I mean we didn't win a single game.
It was okay though because we ordered, like, 7 med chez's (medium pizzas) and ate ate to our hearts delight. But of course Toolan had to rear his ugly mug and steal an entire box all to himself....*glare* Toolan... Anyway the rest of the night was fun and hazy, just the way I like it.
Idk, I'm sure I'm forgeting a whole bunch but it's getting kinda late I really need to finish packing so I can move out as soon as I get home from work tomorrow. It's so annoying, I have to move into a different apartment for just two more months while I'm on co-op. Aw well, at least I was able to put it off until after the jam. Anyway, thanks to everyone for making it out, it was so good to see everyone again! Off the top of my head, Ian, Mike, Ianek, Waylon, Flavio, Colin, Jon S., Mathieu, Bruce, Drew K., and Drew M. It was also really great meeting Ben Cooke and both Johns from Maine! You guys all made this tournament awesome! Also, thanks a ton to Pete for putting this whole thing together. He did a great job as tournament director and made sure everyone was satisfied, so props Pete! Sorry if I forgot anyone!
Peace

It was also really great meeting Ben Cooke and both Johns from Maine! You guys all made this tournament awesome! Also, thanks a ton to Pete for putting this whole thing together. He did a great job as tournament director and made sure everyone was satisfied, so props Pete! Sorry if I forgot anyone!
Peace
