played 12 minutes of footbag tonight. it's TOO FREAKING COLD damn it. but i'm gonna shred with brian and possibly drew on saturday. my feet are healed so now i can play hoops some more too.
found an amazing book about barn restoration techniques. turns out this is like the bible of this topic. good score. obscure. but LUCK would have it that my local freaking library has the damn thing!!!! told me i could check it out as long as i want because it hasn't been checked out in a long long time. score. my recent research has me beginning to believe that I can not only save the barn from deteriorating more... i think I can actually bring it back to it's original state. that would be an accomplishment

excellent session with brian today.
stepping ss mirage > datw > paradon > barrage > drop on doudble down (or whatever it's called when you toe set, ss out in, out in, op clip catch)
midrun quantum butterfly super clean, nice play into it and out of it
good both sidedness on spins, ducks, dives, stepping set.
did a lot of pixie work today and it went well on both sides. first time i've worked on that forever, but I think tired winter time is a good time to finish off that component.
spinning clip > bubba beater > long run was cool too
atomic mirage > paradon > ripwalk to start a run
hit a sloppy gyyro dlo, i should practice that
footed pixie egg beater
had whirling swirl slip off my heel
just hit what i've been working on a lot, i forget what else

nope, no horses. From what I understand, our neighborhood was once a farm. the house across the street was the owner's house. my house was servant house. my barn was carriage house. at some point, it was all subdivided and my house and the carriage house became 1 lot. the carriage house was added onto (15 feet added to back of building.. which is where my finished space will ultimately be). then, that addition was altered again to raise the roof line. and that's my finished falling down, heaved floor piece of crap barn. but it's gonna be good when i'm done.
edit: you know what's funny? i've launched all these projects over the years, and all of them... and I mean ALL of them... ultimately ended up turning out good. And ahead of time / during the work, I was generally the only one that could "see" the finished project. So i always found myself telling people "it's gonna be good when i'm done" and knowing they were rolling their eyes when I turned around. anyhow, this barn is like that, only on a way bigger scale. like, building a patio and a fence and a raised garden is nothing compared to rebuilding a barn. or building a porch, or installing a basketball court.. agian, nothing compared to this. so now, the level of eye rolling I'm confronted with is very high. but i tell ya, I ain't been wrong yet, and I've researched the hell out of this, built skills over many projects etc. it's gonna work, the barn will be great once again

well, if night 1 back to playing hoops was a dream of me playing like my formal 'star basketball player' self, night 2 (last night) was me crashing back down to earth. i'm so rusty, ha ha. oh well, my passing and ball handling were there. i was getting to the hoop easily (and then missing), hitting people on cuts, good no-looks etc. still rebounded well and defended well. just couldn't hit a shot to save my life. will play thursday again. i'm in a 'not interested in footbag as much' phase right now. which is good I think. just shredding once per week, instead of practicing all the time, brings the fun back. and when i finish barn project, i think that having an awesome room to play in will re-energize my interest level.

2nd post.. everyone on face book is doing that "25 random things" post, but I didn't really want to post it up there. But, the 10 readers here are ok to view this:
1. I had open heart surgery in 1999. I had a lifelong heart defect (VSD, basically a hole between the ventricals) that never slowed me down, but was a risk to become infected. And that’s what happened… I got a blood infection (we think I was cut by a rusty nail and that started it all) which turned into Bacterial Endocarditis (bacteria in the heart.. which will kill you), rushed to hospital, 30 days of penecilin IV, open heart to repair the hole (because once you’ve had Bacterial Endocarditis, and if you’re lucky enough to survive, it’s much more difficult to cure a second time [i.e. chance of survival much lower]). Btw, do whatever you have to do to avoid heart surgery. Extremely painful, extremely “mess with your mindâ€

therefore, it'll be awhile before the twinkies come for you

God I love basketball. Actually, let me restate... God I love basketball when I'm at my correct weight, and not a smoker. I pretty much dominated last night. It's a domination that only true basketball players will understand because I enjoy assists as much as scoring. For example, in the average game to 15, I might only score 3-4 times, but I was assisting (and nicely assisting, no-looks, backdoors, pick and rolls etc.) on another 5-10 baskets each game. After the first game, each team thereafter put their best player on me for defense (just like old times!). Man is it good to run and jump without my lungs killing me or my knees killing me. Just wait til my jumpshot is all the way back.
I'm totally back on schedule on all my other health stuff too. working out in the mornings, sleeping the right amount, continuing to eat well, barely drinking (weekends only) etc. Feeling good about getting a jump on "spring energy" by forcing myself back into routine even though all I want to do is sleep.
brew pub tonight with the guys. really looking forward to it. it's a new place, and i haven't had a guy's night in too long.
shredding with brian tomorrow. really looking forward to that too. my legs are strong and springy right now.

had a fun guys night last night. cool crowd of guys, drank our faces off on good beer (over 100 different high quality beers at this place we went!) felt like hell this morning. a little hazy on the details of getting home. very rare for me, and i needed it and deserved it. so no guilt at all.
shredded with brian, and new guy nick today. i've been shredding really well and have been really enjoying it. highlights today
1st time - atomic ss legover
1st time - i think it's called blurriest. like a ripwalk with 2 dexes on the back end. really pumped about this one. really clean.
1st time (almost) - several footed whirling swirls. i love that trick.
lots of long strings. i've been doing a ton of bs pixie shuffle stuff. it's really getting smooth and reliable.
anyhow, whole session was fun, but that blurriest was the most fun.

yo drew - yeah man, my game has been jumping up again lately. I think playing less immediately after weeks worth of intense drilling has done me well - fresh legs and a hunger to play allowed all the practice to come together. I plan to drill pretty hard in February and March, and then play very little in April in hopes that I can "peak" for Boston Jam.
Anyhow, that was TMI wasn't it?
Saturday would be sweet. I'll message you separately too in case you don't read in here before then. I have a free pass for YMCA for you.

hoops last night. roller coaster. skills are coming back, but it's inconsistent. last night, made some excellent moves, and then didn't fucking finish. I hate that bullshit. But it's such fun exercise anyways. Was still doing everything else pretty well. Just missed a couple close ones. damn it.

ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
mother effer
I'm talking to the guy that laid me out while playing hoops last night. He was good, but I was better. And I was OWNING him all night long. And then I crossed over and he was faked out of his jock, as I'm going for a layup and making him look stupid, he intentionally fouls the hell out me.. I wasn't sure if I was ok at first.. And everyone started yelling at him etc. But all that means is, skills are coming back when you can piss someone off by owning him all night. Mother effer. Just wait til my jump shot is back, and then it will really be on.
I'm so sore. It's great though. Sore means you're pushing yourself, means you're getting stronger.
Footbag this weekend, yay

played horrible today out of nowhere. i think it's because I put the vid cam on and it got into my head somehow. anyways.
did hit whirling swirl for first time. not that exciting bc I was so close last week. but still happy about that.
got pixie eggbeater for first time.. the one i caught was lame, but i'll count it because i had some amazing misses (it was one of those days). therefore when I hit a nice one next practice, it won't be that cool bc i already technically landed one today. bleh.
i forget what else. see ya
