Footbag in Pennsilvanya/NYC area this month?

Hi, there's a good chance I'll be staying at a friend's house for a week or two towards the end of this month.
I forgot to ask for her town's name but I understood that it's somewhere between NYC and Philly. I'll have a car so I can travel to meet players in either cities. Anyone playing in that area during this time of year?

Do you guys play out doors? I understand NY is pretty cold this time of year.

During this time of the year we kick at an indoor studio called Dick Shea's. We usually play for 2 hours because we have to reserve our sessions beforehand with the studio, and we each pay a division of the costs for the reservation (the bigger the turnout, the lesser the costs).

The floor surface at the studio is wood, and it can be pretty slippery.

If the weather looks fair and warm, however, we kick outside by a nearby park or plaza. I think 55 degrees F sounds fair, or somewhere close and above -1 C is ideal for us to play outside.

I'm an active kicker in the Philadelphia area! I usually shred a few days a week, so let me know when you have more info. Might be able to get a few guys from the area to join in as well.

If weather permits there's lots of cool places in center city to kick, but I play indoors recently. I'll look check back periodically for updates!

My visit got delayed to April, which sucks since now I have so many people to look forward to meet, but at least the weather will be better.

Personally, I'm glad to hear about the delay in your trip. I live in central New Jersey, about half-way between New York City and Philadelphia. But I will be visiting New Orleans for a week in late February, my knee is currently somewhat somehow messed-up, and I'm totally swamped at work with no time or energy to play. But aside from those problems, I'd really like to kick with you. Things should be better for me in April, I hope... There is even a New Jersey shred-scene, though its typically been dormant in winter for the last couple years. Maybe we can wake it from its hibernation a little early this year... Also, in mid-to-late April there will be a pretty size-able shred event in Rochester, New York -- Rochester is about six hours drive from central New Jersey, but there will likely be at least one or two cars headed up there for a three day trip. Great shredders from up-state New York and Canada are always in attendance at the GRASS event (Greater Rochester Area Shred Symposium...) You might even get to see Niagra Falls...

Just one question -- can you find out exactly what town your friend in New Jersey lives in? I'm very eager to find out just how near-by you'll be to me.

Yeah, my sister lives in South Jersey, so I might be able to sneak in a shred when I visit her.

The town is called Newtown, PA, and since my friend works in Trenton I'm assuming it can't be far from NJ.

I rescheduled my trip for early April, but I'll seriously consider delaying it for GRASS. I'll work the schedule so I'll be able to meet as many of you as possible. A small compensation for two consecutive European worlds

Newtown, yeah, cool. Newtown is basically on-my-way to Philadelphia. You'll certainly be much closer to Philly than to New York City. Newtown is also very near to a small touristy/artsy little enclave I like to play in from time-to-time called New Hope, Pennsylvania. One minor little tragedy about your trip, though -- Kenny Shults (the Footbag Godfather, if you didn't know) lived for a few years in Newtown Pennsylvania about five or six years ago before he got sick of the East Coast and headed back west... There was some pretty amazing jams in Newtown and Philly and New Hope in those brief years...

New York City is about 1.5 hours drive from Newtown, but thats certainly still a managable trip. You might be better off driving from Newtown to one of the many towns that are on the direct train line between Trenton and New York City. It might add a half-hour or more onto your trip, but it saves ALOT of hassle with finding a parking spot in New York City. I got a parking ticket for $115 last weekend , and that was on top of all the pain-in-the-ass driving around through slow-moving-traffic I had to do just going from the shred spot to the movie theater I needed to get to (I went to see "Waltz With Bashir", coincidentally). The train ticket isn't cheap, but its probably no more than you'd spend on gas and tolls, never mind the cost of parking (or parking tickets). The train line is called the New Jersey Transit NORTHEAST CORRIDOR, and its the same one that I ride into the city some of the time. Its a regular commuter line, so it runs at least once each hour. Its a direct line, so you don't have to switch trains, and it brings you directly to Penn Station, New York, which is right down-town and conveniently located for sight-seeing or getting to our usual shred spots (about two subway stops from our shred sight, but I've often walked the whole way when I'm not in a hurry).
