Just thought I'd post this little footbag moment.

You and I both know that if the bag were alive it would have probably been laughing its ass off taunting me.

Other then that... I kicked for 3 hours today, got three 8s (Clipper > Clipper, Toe > Clipper and Toe > Toe), a fucking hardcore drill, a new 7 > 7 link and... that's about it on camera. Twas a good day 8) .

I just hope I'm not too sore tomorrow. I'm still coming up with lots of things to try for the camera but I'm aiming SO high, it's going to be hard to get even 1/3rd of them. I guess we'll see...

Also need to really clean up my Flurries. Symp Flurries aren't too bad though! :D

EDIT

Here's the reason for my lack of footbaggin' last week:

MY NEW CAR

2002 Chevy Camaro 35th Anniversary Edition!

100k kms

She's a little dirty from my trip into the city, but still. I'm ecstatic over her! I picked her up at an auction at the end of January for a good price, and had to fix her up a tiny bit. I got all new tires and rims, and still have to get a few minor things done on the inside but otherwise she's in the best of shape :D .
Holy shit Byrin! This was not the car we talked about.

Those rims don't do justice! You should have gone with 17'' instead of 15.

Also nice teaser.

Those are, indeed, 17" rims. It came with 20"s on but they were too much. Not enough tire profile and also tires to go on those rims are very expensive. Also, with the larger tire profile, it makes for a softer ride.

Had a good kick this afternoon. Started getting back into quantum sets again, and they are coming along quite well. My double spinning went down the tube a bit - balance and setting issues - so the past few sessions I've been putting more time into those. PS Eggs are a little better, though I haven't been drilling those all that much. Instead I've been working a lot on tripless drills. I think Thursday I'll probably leave the camera home and work the foundation downtime stuff.

Got a lot on camera today. Two new 8s, two new links, a hardcore combo and a kick-ass drill. I'm thinkin' I almost have enough footage, maybe one or two more sessions and I'll be able to get what I want and be happy with it :).

Some highlights to post:

- Alpine Whirlygig
- Food > Spinning Blender x 2 (I'll never be able to do it again either  )
- Spinning Blender x 4 8O
- Motion Sickness, Food and Spinning Blender bsos, ending with Blurriest > handcatch

- Spinning Blender x 4

Props.

I'm curious as to how you can have such good paradox blenders. Is there any chance that on the day you are "leaving your camera at home" you could, infact, take it with you, and film a good "Hand set->Clipper->paradox blender->Hand catch, turn 45 degrees, *rpt" style video? I don't think I'd be the only one who would thoroughly enjoy watching this video over and over again, and one day having a paradox blender half as good as Byrin Wylie's.

I take 2-3 shred-roids a day, 4 - 5 days a week! That's my secret  .

Some recent highlights:

- Blurriest Rake bs
- Scorpion's Tail Rake bs
- Dolomite Rake bs
- Dolomite > PS Egg x 2
- Food > Whirlwind > Marius > Mindbender :D

Yesterday I drilled Symp Eggs and Symp Double Downs for the first time in ages, and during today's sesh with Rory my shins were feelin' it a bit. Otherwise, I had some good practice with rakes (obviously) which is something I might dip more into, and my quantum sets are, like I said before, coming along nicely. It might be a month or two before I'm able to hit quantum everything - or atleast that's what my goal is anyways.

Other then that... I gotta get more hours in. It's halfway through the month and I've only got 17hrs of footbag so far :( . I think what I'm going to start doing is increasing the lengths of my sessions while decreasing the amount of sessions / week. So instead of ~2hrs/5 days a week like I was doing the last few months I'm thinking of doing ~3hrs/4 days a week. We'll see how that fairs up.

Thanks Adam :).

Had a great 3hr session today, and I really needed it. Been slowly, ever so slowly, dipping down into a dark place these last few days but fortunately it seems like footbag is always bringing me back up. I'm very thankful I have that to rely upon when things go a bit downhill.

Anyways, it was one of those sessions where I wish I brought my camera because I was hitting a lot of new stuff. I was able to punch out Quantum Mirages > Quantum Legovers and Quantum Illusions > Quantum Mirages. I think the best I did was 10 unique contacts, so two and a half drills. Quantum everything definitely is a reality, and it may be a lot closer then I anticipated.

I've been drawn into the world of rakes and I'm loving them. They ooze with style and I love the feeling of doing a trick and almost "bailing" to a rake, then watching and waiting as the bag comes back from that monstrous set you gave it. On the other hand, shuffling out of a rake feels just as awesome. Whereas in the former scenerio it's all about staring the bag down as if you own it, when you do shuffle it's as though you're sayin "That's right bitch, no mercy for you" and keep on rippin' it up. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! I'm really happy I dipped into them a few sessions back. They're also really good to warm up with as well.

Double Spinning is slowly coming back. I think I was having a footwork / setting issues with that concept which was throwing me way off. Just to prove my point, the other day I actually landed straight on my ass because I was so off-balanced. Like, I had *no* time to really try and brace for it. I was just spinning, then all of a sudden I knew something was wrong then I hit the floor (still trying to spin  ). Amazingly, I don't think anybody saw it despite the fact that the YMCA was pretty busy that day. If you don't count my pride, nothing was hurt in the fall  .

I've been drilling tripless a lot during my sessions. Well, I shouldn't say a lot but I have 4 10-15 contact drills which I try and hit every session. I haven't been able to come close to beating my record of 35 unique but that will come with time I'm sure. Currently I'm just content with hitting every drill once or twice a session and when I'm ready they will all come together. I think in total they work out to 54 contacts so when that day comes I'm sure my endurance will be better then what it has been as well.

Enough blabbin, I'll get to the highlights...

- Pixie / Atomic / Stepping + Double Down (far / ss) + Rake all bs :D
- Sailing Butter and Dominatrix bsos
- Fracture and Sailing ss Egg bs
- 24 contacts of Torque > Ripwalk
- Fusion Rake bsos + Barfly rake (first time hitting it on weak, second time on strong)
- DoD Rake > Paradon Rake bs (almost bsos, I'd like to hit that drill - got 3 contacts)
- This downtime concept (invention?) <- Actually did this on Saturday
- Some quad dexes I want to get on camera (featuring said concept and one other downtime 3 dex concept)
- Harder varients of un-named quad dex tricks referred to above which I want to get on camera :P .

Basically, an awesome session in terms of hitting new tricks. Also, the sun rose on the 5-dex trick horizon for me. Not sure if I should try for it right away (I really want to) or drill the components a bit first beforehand. Knowing me, I'll jump the gun and go for it as soon as I feel like it could be a possibility.

Amen to that.

And props on that downtime concept. It looked good to me.

Jorden did something similar in one of the NYJ 06 videos, but his was more symposium-y than yours. Not sure whether or not they would be considered separate.

:D

I hit your challenge this afternoon Kevin, but I'll try and get it on camera for you :).

It was a good week this week, though my shins have been acting up again. I think the reason behind that, however, is that I have been barely eating so I'm just not giving my body what it needs to rebuild itself. I gotta smarten up on that issue.

Rory and I did a footbag demo for two gym classes in a school not very far away from the YMCA on Tuesday, and we actually got one guy (a soccer player) to come out and give it a try! I went over the stalls with him, but then we ended up playing two square for about half an hour before he had to leave. The demos themselves went really well, and the gym teacher will be giving us contact information for all the other schools in the area as well as his referel (sp?) and a volunteer recommondation or something or other. He also asked if we'd be interested in making this an annual thing and breifly touched upon the subject of making footbag a mini unit in his phys ed class, so that was really good. I told the kids that I went to the World Champs in '07 and came back with a bronze medal, and they were all 8O , .

Another cool thing, when I was kickin with the guy at the YMCA he said that ever since we stopped by they ("they" being the entire class) has made it a priority to spread the word that hacky sack is actually called footbag. That was the highlight of the night for me :) .

Some footbag highlights:

- Plasma Rake
- Torch-R-Rack Rake bs
- Dolomite > Barfly Rake (Rory's challenge)
- Gyro DLO > Whirl x 12
- Gyro Egg > Whirl (25 contacts)
- Dominatrix x 2
- Blubberman three times in one string (dropped on the double bsos attempt)
- And a spoiler for my video (still need to capture it): Crispy Backside Nemesis (Stepping ss Mofly)

In not so great news, I may have to get a new transmission for my car. Ouch :(.

But to make this a good post sandwhich, I should be done capturing everything for my video this week and sending it across the country to a certain somebody who wants to put together the video for me :), so I hope you are still hyped about seeing that "Big Tricks / Combos / Links" video :) .

Thanks Jeremy. I thought me dropping the toe kick was pretty funny too :D .

February Recap:

35hrs 45mins
16 sessions

During the last week a took a few days off and let my shins recover a bit. A smart move imo and I'm not stressin' about not meeting my 40hrs / month goal.

Well, the footage is mailed out and with it I feel like a bit of weight has come off my shoulders. It was definitely fun pushing my own limits, but at the same time I felt like I lost a lot of productive drill time. As a result, the first week or two will be mostly foundation drilling, then (shins permitting) be getting into more shuffle, tripless and fearless drilling for the remainder. If all is well, I'd like to carry the later portion of my drilling into next month as well, because at the moment I feel like the weakest part of my game is my harder shuffle tricks, which is basically DLOs, Eggs, Whirls, Drifters, Double Downs, Torques and Rev. Swirls with any set in front of them. I can do them, but they shouldn't be as hard as they are. Also, something else I wanted to get into is ducking those concepts. Maybe next month, but we'll see when the time comes.

Some footbag goals for the next two months:

- DLOs, Eggs, Whirls & Drifters with multiples of 9
- Pdx Drifter > Pdx Torque x 10
- 40 contacts of my Pixie / Stepping / Atomic + Whirl / Drifter / Double Down (ss & far) Drills
- Quantum Everything > Atomic Everything
- Rubberman 2, x 2 (maybe x 3?)
- Need to be better at Far, Gyro and Spinning Rev. Swirls

It'll be hard, but I think they are achievable. I just hope my body can handle it  .

Some footbag highlights:

- Frantic Mirage bs
- Frantic Butterfly bs
- Tapping Locomotion
- Ducking Scorpion's Tail Rake
- Sailing ss Mirage > Dominatrix x 2
- Muted Toe ss Blender > Gyro Egg x 2
- Pdx Whirl x 50
- Drifter x 44
- Osis x 300
- DLOs, Eggs, Drifters & Whirls w/ multiples of 7
- 15 contacts of Quantum Everything
- Fairy Everything (I think I've done this before, but not in years)
- DDD Rake and Barfly Rake bsos
- Ducking Scorpion's Tail bsos

Dear lord.
Gyro locomotion would be neat. Like, Amadeus-screw almost!

Okay, hey, so remember if you ever figure out how to fix that shin pain, pleeaaase tell me. That's all that's really holding me back too. Although I'm obviously nowhere comparable. Just saying... it hurts.

Byrin - request. Pixie tapping locomotion.

re; shin splints. I used to get bad shin splints and then I started doing calf strengthening exercises every day and within about a month they went away and have never come back...
