Yeah. I'm not sure how much I like the lower background part. Seems to make the image busy. What do you think?

The bottom half is really busy, but it's a good contrast compared to the upper portion which is very silent.

I think it really helps keep the viewers eyes moving throughout the whole composition.

Needless to say, I like it!

well.. umm .. i guess that top post is from that old photo of mine? i feel honored

that's surely the first time someone did a drawing or painting of me. even if it was off a photo.

looks trippy. couldn't find the bag at first. but cool! (only the facial expression could be a bit nicer. looks pretty evil. haha.)

wanted to contribute to this thread in a long time, but still haven't found time to scan any of my newer drawings. so i'll just leave it to the future...

No, it's not a stencil.

It's paint markers. So it took a while.

It's 1 x 1 m.

I wanna do one in color soon.

Jamie those are awesome. You shouldn't be asking me for advice, you clearly know what you're doing more than me. Great job.

Those old SLRs really take nice photos too don't they. There's just something about the colours that you can get with digital cameras. Props

Cheers mate! Not sure about knowing what I'm doing, haven't had much experience!

Not sure about the film vs digital either. I had to up the contrast on these after I scanned them in as they were quite grey and washed out, but these are all as close as I could easily get to the original photos. I do like the fact that it's film though, even if it is an ongoing cost

suggestion:
in the second one, the transition from the dark dark shadows to the lights is kinda sudden
makes her look like she was just in a fight

Yeah, the darks were bothering me and I tried to cover them up which is why they look all washed out. Do you have any tips for painting with acrylic [on paper]? It dries so fast -- it's hard to blend. I've tried canvas before but don't like it. The paper I'm using is pretty glossy, so it isn't a ton more absorbent than canvas. The darks in the second are darker 'cause I used a brown from a tube, and the first one I mixed myself.
