The longest unique Guiltless drills

Post by Cod »

Hey, Modifriends!

What do you think about trying yourselves in hitting the longest unique Guiltless drills? I spent some time on this today and I repeated an 11 tricks combo:

Dimwalk > Blur > Butterfly > Paradox Mirage > Symposium Mirage > Pixie Clipper > Schmoe > Smear > Magellan > Smudge > Pixie ss Pickup > rpt.

I'll definately try to hit more! :)

At NYJ 07, David repeated the final combo generator combo.

It was pretty long, but I'm not sure if it was genuine.

I know I'm a little on the outer on this, but I tend to only refer to drills as things you hit over and over - so hitting each unique trick once doesn't count as a drill for me - Cod would need to hit 44 contacts, not 22 if you were going to call that a drill. I also don't think drills necessarily refer to combos that repeat both sides. If you hit 5 reps of blur>legbeater, I'd call that a drill too. I am very conservative when it comes to words :P

That said, the only longish "drill" I can think of that I do (and hardly ever since I tend to think short drills are much better than long ones) is;

Ripwalk>stepping clipper>sidewalk>stepping whirl (sometimes blurrier instead)>shmoe>magellan>pixie ss clipper>blur>parkwalk repeat. I also do a lot of shorter variations of this, and possibly sometimes longer ones as well. I tend to think of it more as a framework than a drill.

Wow, Byrin, what a cool drill! 8O

For Unique Guiltless Drill I meant a run "Guiltess combo > rpt." in which all tricks are Unique (in Shred 30 meaning). So, in this meaning Blur > Legbeater > rpt. isn't unique :).

Oh, Jeremy, your combo is also super nasty! Props!

Right now I'm working on hitting 15 tricks > rpt. My best is 24 contacts of it.

Edit: Jazzkid, also cool runs :).

No worries. I understood what you meant, I just felt the need to express my contrarian view anyway ;)

Thanks for the props. You would not give me props if you played with me and realised that pretty much every run I do mainly contains that drill or sections of it, usually just on my strongside :P

Your contrarian view offends me sir. <:x>

The noun 'drill' has been appropriated in footbag and means something specific. <:?v

What's ur beef? Next thing you'll be talkin about how blurry that dude's run was because, you know, them legs moved soooooo faaaaaaaaaast. v:roll:v

NO THANK YOU UH-UH.

But the word "drill" is used in almost the same context in every sport. We do drills in touch football, drills in football, drills in cricket, drills in every sport I play or have played. It's only a recent thing that the meaning has changed. People still talked about the fiesta drill when I started playing (paradon>barrage repeat). The meaning has only changed because of lazy players who are happy to able hit moves once and wanted to claim to be able to do the rubberman drill when they could only get 6 contacts.

Your revolution is over, Mr. O'Wheel. The perscriptivists lost! Condolences!

Seriously though, drill is a useful word in footbag, and I don't even like drills except as skill benchmarks and as, well, drills, in the traditional sense. When they're used in actual shred it seems lazy, kind of a "I've decided that I don't want to be creative for these next three contacts". Although when people start the repeat of a drill but throw something really kooky or surprising in there, it makes me pretty happy. This wouldn't be possible if drills weren't so prevalent, which wouldn't be the case if they weren't 'named' as a 'thing to do'.

I'unno. I just wanted to put arms on smiley faces.
