Hey, guys! This is a topic about a new Vasek and Honza video, not about Vasek form! Everyone has his own opinion, i think this routine not the best for him, but it`s still great.
I really liked the video, different angles, and this strange effect doesn`t make it worse...)
20 years old...
Still hope to be some good;)

At least Vasek isn't lazy ass and visited USA when you organized Worlds. And DC feels so great enough to ignore championships organized in Europe, so shut up please.

Also, there is a fact that many of us liked Vasek's style before 2006, when he was golden child, thin but hitting incredible stuff. The thing is that Vasek went into another level, he doesn't hit soft&beautiful combos (for example Final Shred, where he was flying with short stops to touch a ground ;D), now he hits massive tricks (all those symposiums thingies, downtime mid-time barragging flails etc, etc).

So to be honest, I prefer Vasek with his current (sometimes not really clean) style, than DC closed in USA, ignoring Todexons, Worlds organized in Europe.

Now that this thread has been completely hi-jacked, I don't feel bad posting off the original topic anymore.

In no particular order:

1. I liked the original video posted, so thanks for sharing that Erik. I thought the angles were cool and there was a good vibe to it. The flipped screen effect really threw me off until somebody pointed it out.

2. I wasn't a big fan of Vasek's routine when he did it at worlds, but I liked this one from Todexon a lot. It was very playful, yet had lots of difficulty and some nice choreo cues.

3. Kyle: While we are all entitled to our opinion, the way we express our views goes a long way towards creating a better community, as well as getting people to value our opinions. While you may not like Vasek's style as much as his old style, you can express this in a way that makes you sound less negative/bitter.

4. Before people heavily critique a routine like this Vasek one, it's worth asking a few questions:

a. How many people in the World could do a routine of that difficulty, dropless, under competition pressure?
b. Could YOU do that routine dropless in practice? If I gave you a year to practice that routine, could you hit it dropless in practice a single time?
c. Have you ever gone dropless in routines in comp? In Open? Under pressure?

5. Dave Clavens is a university student, so his time and money are limited, as is the case for most students. If you wanted to see him at Euros or Todexon, it would be more helpful to sponsor him or help out with lodging costs than to complain that he isn't coming. I assumed the reason he never went to Europe was because of time/money considerations, and not because he hates Europe or is stuck up. I don't know why you don't give him the same benefit of the doubt. Anyway, last I heard from him he wasn't even playing anymore, but still, it's not cool to give somebody shit for not flying across the ocean to kick a beanbag, especially when it's not financially feasible for them.

I've found that I enjoy life more when I appreciate things for what they are, than for what they are not. I appreciate Vasek's routine for what it was, and not what it could have been.

Vasek and Honza both continue to inspire my shred. Thanks.

As far as Vasek, as he gets older, gains muscle mass, and his body changes, his shred will evolve into many different forms. As he evolves, so does footbag. Almost all artists receive criticism in their craft when they mature out of the role that most people had originally seen them in. He had demonstrated his well rounded mastery when he was young and skinny and he still continues to do so as an older more massive Vasek.

I hope Vasek never feels the need to even respond to "he has fallen" , unless he just responds by whipping everybody ass in competition as he probably will

Ken, wise words , well put.

It's not our business why David doesn't fly to Europe... People, just play Footbag and stop beeing dickheads! :)

BTW: I like the camera work in the video. I'm not a big fan of the eye-fish, though.

It saddens me to see fellow footbag players assuming the worst about me. If you really knew me and my life you would not think I am ignoring Europe.

Check my blog for some elaboration on why I have not shredded on your side of the world.

Thanks,

David

1. I thought the routine was awesome, and also really enjoyed the initial topic video as well.

2. The whirr is definitely "the." I can post a screen grab if people still want to debate this. In my opinion well over 50% of Vasek's whirrs are the - he dexes above the bag on the second dex, not around it.

3. While Kyle's response is typically immature, the various ad hominem/deconstructionist attacks against him are almost as bad. It seems that there is a rise in people trying to explain opinions they disagree with as caused by external factors rather than addressing the actual opinion, and this is clearly illogical. I think Kyle's opinions, while expressed poorly, are a legitimate view (which is not to say I agree or disagree) and people should attempt to address those actual opinions if they disagree - the issue of his communication skills obviously has no bearing on the legitimacy of the views he put forward.

4. The criticisms against David Clavens are ridiculous. That's not an issue of how that opinion is expressed, but just a thoughtless opinion that barely deserved a response. I think it's been addressed adequately anyway. I'd also like to take this time to say anybody who doesn't attend this years Australian Champs (in about 2 weeks time) hates footbag and is closed in the rest of the world.

5. I haven't seen a routine by DC that I thought was as good as Vasek's best routines, including this one. There's no doubt DC is one of the very best players in footbag and one of the few players who potentially could legitimately beat Vasek in routines, but I don't think he's done that yet (as in performed a routine that would beat Vasek - not actually beaten Vasek).

6. We should encourage dissenting opinions. Kyle's first two posts in this topic, while short on information, were not offensive. It was only the responses from Zack Forth, Honza and Pete Bowler who needlessly turned this into a flame war with their unnecessary personal attacks. If you disagree with something, try disagreeing without personal attacks. It's not difficult. (Sorry this point is almost the same as number 3).

7. I'd still really like to know why the screen was flipped on the initial video :)
