New player with some questions/ looking for.....

Post by johnjamieson »

New player here, got some questions and I'm also looking for good (or bad) people to play with so I can learn if thats cool :). I'm in the Long Island,NY area so if you wanna drop me a message or whatever that would be awesome.

I bought leather rod lavers from this place called finish line and tried modding them but failed because I suck and now I have a big open slash on my shoes lol, and I use a mr.sandbag.

I don't know how exactly I am suppose to be progressing, but I have been playing for about 3 weeks now. I can do all of the basic kicks, and I average about 10-19 kicks a try, and my highest being 35. I can do alternating toe stalls about 10 times in a row, and on my right leg I can do about 20 toe stalls in a row without dropping the bag... in my school were theres no hacky sackers people think this is pretty cool lol.

I tried doing inside stalls but can only make about 1/10 because when I try to stall it the bag bounces off as if I kicked it. Any tips would be awesome

So how is my progress so far for 3 weeks, what would be the easiest order of tricks to learn for a beginner, and are there any long island players that wanna play with me?

Thanks for the help guys

Tip #1 - the place for a thread that's all about you and your progress and questions and answers is the Footblog section.

Tip #2 - Add your location to your profile so other people can find you. Props on being in the "my real name is my username" posse :)

Tip #3 - try posting about other players in your area in Journies to Tournies / Footbag Travel. We just had a jam in Albany a few weeks ago, sorry you missed it. make sure the thread title has your location, like "Long Island Kickers?" There are kickers in the city, maybe you can get out there?

About kicking... make sure you're relaxed and your arms don't look funny while you kick. You want to do it with smooth, comfortable style.

about stalling... make sure you learn to hop a little bit, and land on the ground with the other foot while you're catching it with the stalling foot. Learn this for all your stalls, not just toe.

Remember, for every kind of stall, you want to bring down your foot at the same speed at which the bag is falling. For inside stalls (and kicks) it helps a LOT to twist your hips in the direction of the leg with which you are attempting to stall (ie: inside stall with right leg? -- twist your hips towards the right.)

This might help you with some videos and slow motion of some basic stalls and tricks: http://www.hackrifice.com/introguide.html
