Totoro footblog

Post by TomTilly »

Hey all,

my name is Tamás Tilly (or in my country, Tilly Tamás). I live in Hungary and play footbag since january 2007, now I'm 18 years old. I'm not talentful at all, but I love it, and practice like one hour per day. I decided to start this footblog to see my development in the future, reading for example this post.
I also hope that some of you read it too, and give some advices to me if you feel I do something wrong.

Combos, tricks and other stuff I've hit (to preformance my technical level):

blur>dimwalk>ripwalk
ripwalk>spinning butterfy
sidewalk>ripwalk rpt.
smear>pixie legover>magellan rpt.
ducking clipper>diving clipper rpt; b2b ducking butterfly
ducking pdx mirage>dimwalk>ripwalk
smog>pixie da da courve
blur>paradon
quantum mirage>dimwalk>butterfly swirl
blur>dimwalk rpt.

my biggest tricks:

tomahawk
blurry whirl
blurriest
pdx whirl bs
pdx DLO bs
phoenix, assassin
pixie down doubledown
dimwalkswirl
far swirl bs
barrage bs

some records:
ripwalk: 6
ducking clipper: 7
pixie legover: 14
infinity: like 30, I'm not sure
legover: 105
opp. toe stall: 811
far clipper: 34
opp. osis: 7
ss clipper stall: 37 on flipside, 63 on strong side.

I think that's enough :D

I'm interessed about your opinion- how about this development in 2 years? I think it's a bit weak, but I hope one time I will be a good player too.

I'm also interessed about stiching footbags. This is a pretty new hobby for me, I stich since one month, but I have made my first professional 32-panel bag :) I'm going to order some planetfootbag fill, and get some ultrasuede light- but I still mean it's horribly expensive :x No matter, I search it also in my country, it will be probably cheaper here, and also doesn't iclude the shipping costs.

My footblog-name Totoro (which is also can be seen on my picture) comes from my favourite movie, Tonari no Totoro (in english My neighbour Totoro). Totoro is a spirit, looks like a huge, grey, fat animal, who lives in the forest, and likes to help the others. I choosed this name because I also feel myself a peaceful person, who likes to help the others, and never get angry. :)

Nice stuff.
I think you are pretty average for 2 years of play. Some nice single tricks and good bothsidedness. It is hard to gauge, though. Years ago when I started, the improvement rate was much slower. I was tiltless for 2 years. It must be fun to be that young and hitting such awesome tricks. Good work :)

Nowadays I practice drills to make my bothsideness and my controll on my clipper better. My ankle isn't good at all, but I think the rhytm of the stalls is more important than the clipper-surface. Yesterday the practicing went not so good as I wish, cause I was a bit sleepy, which makes my control horribly weak.

Now it's 6 o'clock am, I've just woken up, and I'm very sleepy again  Doesn't matter, I will drink some drinks with a lot of coffeine. To be a student is definietly unhealthy

Tomorrow I am going to make my new identy-card, I've lost it in Prague during the Worlds '08. I have a passport so I could confirm myself, but now I really need it, because of my stiching-project. I have to order some stuff via internet, that's why I can't wait anymore. Howewer, 9-14th april is a recess for me, so I will have a lot of freetime. :)

Yesterday I had a really good session with the best hungarian players on Székesfehérvár. The weather was very sunny and warm, we played 3 and a half hours long. I was in a really good form.

Highlights:
flipside infinity swirl (first try ever, midrun)
6 ripwalks in a row
2 flails and an atomsmasher midrun
a blurriest
and some good and long strings with butterfly swirls, paradons, ducking butterflys, ripwalks, blurs, etc.

I hit the blurriest with an Oshbag, which I never played with before. It's a quite special bag, a bit smaller and heavier than a haniabag, but I loved it. My sets were pretty high and easy with it.

All in all, it was the best session since the last month :)

Today I practiced some basic stuff like atws, clipper stalls, infinitys, to make my control better. I hit 41 atws (in-out), which is my newest record.

Today I had a short session in the evening, I've just finished it. I've hit two new tricks: pixie opposit whirl and opposit butterflying reverse swirl. I think it's quite easy on my strong side, but I can't control it enough yet- like I couldn't start a stepping set from it. It is also a problem with my butterfly swirls. I was also close to spinning pdx whirl, I will practice the spinnings a little more in the future.

I have also the idea to share my favourite songs with you. They are extremly relaxing, so if you feel stressful, just listen to them
I think that music like them are good to the world, because they make the people more peaceful- which is always good :)

Yesterday I had two good sessions during the day. I practiced spinnings, and hit infinity>spinning butterfly>spinning butterfly, infinity>spinning butterfly>spinning osis, and flipside spinning clipper 2 or 3 times.
On my second session, after shredding with my friend, Farkas Ã

Nowadays I practiced ducking and diving clippers a lot. 2 days ago I've hit 8 ducking clippers to handcath, which is my record now. I hit diving whirl, wawing clipper and zulu clipper as new tricks. Today I will practice some flipside stuff like flipside spinnings, divings and different toe sets like atomic and quantum. Training on flipside is not so funny, but the bothsideness is important I think.

3 days ago I have seen Anz's stretching tutorial video, and it's a great idea. So before and after my last sessions I've stretched also. It makes me feel like I'm a really sportsman  But I mean that it's really important, if you want to hit barraging set or a ripstein for example. What I have to stretch a lot, is my ankle. I hope it will be better after a few months.

ps. I hit also 49 ATWs (in-out), just for fun.

I didn't practice flipside toe sets, but a lot of basic stuff to make my control better; easy drills like:

inside stall>muted opp. clipper stall>rpt.

ss inside stall>muted opp clipper stall>far clipper stall>muted far inside stall rpt

ss inside stall>muted opp. clipper stall>muted ss clipper stall>ss inside stall rpt;

like 20-30 contacts for each one. That session was not so long, like 50 minutes, but I enjoyed it a lot, I felt like I'm doing something for my development.

Today I practiced whirls. I can't controll them good enough, and don't use them often during my shred. I hit many simply whirls, and toe opposite whirls, which help to learn pdx whirl; my pdx whirls are not smooth enough. Probably I will play at the evening too - a short "realxing, for fun session" or so :)

Today I had two very good sessions; the first one on my sportslesson in my school, I'm alloved to play there :) Iwas shredding like a freak, and hit two new drills:

Parkwalk>Double Legover rpt. and
whirl>osis rpt.

and some very lazy and clean pdx whirls.

My second session was at home in my garden. These days I used to play on the grass - it is not a very good surface to shred, but it makes me feel I'm close to the nature, and gives the heapiness of playing footbag. I practiced my whirls again, my flipside is getting better :)

I've hit 9 contacts of whirl>infinity>whirl>infinity; I want to hit like 20-24 contacts of it - drills like this makes my controll better, which I feel the most important thing in my development. At the end of the session, I hit 20 contacts of far clipper>ss clipper rpt. It's not so many, I want to hit 50 contacts of it. I also hit 31 mirages on my flipside.

Unfortunately I killed a snail during my session. It was hidden in the grass, and I stepped on it. It was sad.

Today I didn't have a session, just a few tricks between two lessons in my school. Howewer, these minutes were pretty fun, 'cause I've broken my illusion record, now it is 22, and I've hit some pretty clean dellusions :D It is not so hard as I expected. My flipside illusions, which used to be very weak and unclean, get much better today- I don't know, I just found out how to do it. :) So I will work on them a lot in the near future, I'm inspired :D

In the last days, I practiced a lot of ripwalks and infinitys, today I've hit ripwalk>sidewalk rpt. again, and I want to beat my ripwalk record; now it is 6, but I think I am able to hit 10 ripwalks, if I'm in a good form.

Today I practiced a lot of toe stuff too, like pigbeater bs, and many dellusions. I was close to dellusioning legover (barefoot) :D
I hit also a good combo: pigbeater>smog (also barefoot). Illusions are great:)

My friend, Vince, who just started playing for 3 weeks, has hit a clean mirage today :D We were really happy.

Good luck! :)

Both tricks are on video, and my flipside is much cleaner :D

An other thing: Today I made a tatoo (actually, I don't made it, the tatoo-master guy made it for me), it's 3 characters on the inner side of my left arm (gothic style):
M T J

That means "mit tenne Jézus", and that means "what would Jesus do".

I made it because I have to make many decisions and sometimes I do things wrong. This tatoo will remember me the good way, every time I see it.

Hey All, that was my last day at school.
Next monday, thuesday and wednessday I will make my final exams.
So it was my last day at school and the last afternoon at school also... That's why I'm also a bit drunk now  I just decided to send this post before sleeping.

Some footbag stuff: Between playing poker and drink beer, I have hit pigbeater BSOS :D
Next step is bedwetter BSOS, or 10 ripwalks in a row (a bit easier than bedwetter bsos I think...)

So, good luck for You all(also for me  )!! :D

Yesterday I had a crazy session with grek and Brocka (from Slovakia).
I have hit pdx flail az a new trick, and some good runs, some phoenix midrun. It wasn't a "big trick" session for me, but the shred part was really enjoyable :) It was about 1,5 hours long.
These sessions are good, because the develop my stamina and I learn to use my tricks (also my big tricks) in my shred.

Yesterday and today I had two good solo sessions. Yesterday I've hit legbeater and atomsmasher on my flipside :) It was a very good feeling. Today morning I just shredded with easier tricks, practiced the guiltless shred, and at the end, I've hit 4 pigbeaters in a row :D , and pixie same eggbeater on my flipside. There was also some styley and clean pixie legovers (15), but I couldn't beat my currently record (18 ).
